Strap-On MOLLE Seat Panel & Front Pad with 7 Pouches

Gear Off the Floor, Mud Off the Seat.

By the end of a week in the ute the cab is a shed. The torch is under the seat, the tape and cable ties are in the door pocket, a bag is getting kicked around the footwell, and the driver's seat has copped every muddy boot and wet pair of work pants that climbed in. Then you need that torch on a dark track, it isn't where you left it, and a two-minute job turns into a slow one.

This set straps onto one front seat and goes after both problems. A pad sits over the front of the seat back and the seat base to take the dirt. A MOLLE panel sits over the back of the seat and carries seven pouches, and each pouch comes off and moves around. The panel's straps wrap around the seat and close through rings on the pad, so the two pieces hold each other on.

It is a pad and a panel, not a fitted seat cover: in the supplier's photographs the side bolsters of the seat back stay showing. The pad's upper section is 570 × 665 mm, its lower section runs 600 mm and the back panel is 540 × 643 mm, all off the supplier's own drawing. Those are the numbers that settle whether it suits your seat, so run a tape over yours before you order.

What it Does

• The Work Ute: torch, tape, gloves and a charger cable each get a pouch on the back of the seat instead of sliding around the cab all shift.
• The 4WD Trip: the zipped and flapped pouches shut, so light gear stays put better on corrugations than it does in an open pocket, and whoever is in the back seat can reach it.
• Mud & Grit: the pad sits between your work clothes and the seat, and it comes off to be shaken out.
• A Tired Seat: the pad covers the worn middle of an old seat back and base. The side bolsters stay as they are.
• Changing your Mind: the pouches hang on press-stud straps, so you can shift them, leave some off, or put some on the flaps either side of the seat base.

Limits

Seat Airbags. We have no airbag test results for this cover. Check your owner's manual first. If your seat has an airbag in it, don't fit this to that seat.

The straps wrap around the sides of the seat back, and the side of a seat is where a seat-mounted airbag usually sits. The supplier's photographs show this set on particular seats. That tells you nothing about yours.

It is Not a Full Seat Cover. The pad covers the middle of the seat back and base, and the panel covers the back of the seat. The side bolsters and the headrest stay bare, and nothing is shaped to one model of seat.

Universal Fit is a Marketing Word. The supplier calls it universal and prints a list of vehicles. We are not repeating the list, because a list cannot see your seat. Every photograph shows a separate front seat with a headrest on two posts. Nothing shows a bench seat, a rear seat or a seat with a built-in headrest, so don't count on those.

Look Under the Seat First. The cords hook up under the seat, and the supplier only says to use a suitable position. Keep hooks and cords clear of wiring, seat runners and any motor, keep the seat belt buckle uncovered and the belt running free, then check the seat still slides and reclines. Nobody has told us it's been checked on an electric seat, so don't count on it.

No Load Rating, So Keep it Light. No figure is published for the pouches, webbing, straps or press studs. Treat it as a home for a torch, gloves, tape, a phone and a few light tools. Anything heavy enough to hurt in a sudden stop does not belong strapped to the back of a seat.

It Costs Knee Room. The deepest pouch is 120 mm on the supplier's drawing, so whoever sits behind this seat loses at least that much with that pouch on. Leave a pouch off if you need the room back.

It is Not Waterproof and we will Not Call it That. The supplier says it protects the seat from water, dirt and spills. No water rating is published and no seam sealing is shown. Treat the pad as a dirt barrier, not a way of keeping a seat dry, and put anything that must stay dry in its own dry bag.

What Comes in the Box?

Going by the supplier's drawing and photographs: one front pad, one back panel and seven pouches. The supplier does not write the contents out in full. The pouches come empty, so no torch, tools, compass or medical gear.

Is it One Set or a Pair?

One seat's worth. Every picture shows one pad, one panel and seven pouches, and nothing from the supplier says two, though it does not say one outright either. Fitting both front seats means buying two.

Will it Fit my Vehicle?

Measure your seat against the pad at 570 × 665 mm and the panel at 540 × 643 mm. That is as far as we can take it, and it is why there is no vehicle list on this page. If your seat has an airbag in it, the answer above comes first.

How does it Go on?

Going by the supplier's fitting pictures: hang the pad and the panel on the seat, pull each panel strap through its ring on the pad and press it closed, hook the cords together under the seat, then hang the pouches by their press-stud straps. The supplier reckons under an hour.

How is it Different from your Other Seat Organisers?

Those two sit on the back of the seat only. The MOLLE Panel with 6 Pockets is a panel with open pockets and webbing for pouches of your own, and the Zipped MOLLE Pouches organiser has four zipped pouches sewn on. This set is the only one of the three with a pad for the front of the seat and seven pouches that come off. If all you want is storage on the back of the seat, either of those does it for a lot less money.

Will my Phone Fit the Zip Pouch?

The supplier calls it a phone pouch, and it measures 115 × 145 × 80 mm on the outside. Measure your phone in its case first, because a big phone will not go in.

What is it Made of?

The supplier's description says 600 denier polyester with a PVC liner, and its specification list says Oxford cloth. We are passing that on as the supplier's description. The supplier also calls it washable but gives no care instructions.

Does the Flag Patch Come with it?

Most of the supplier's pictures show an American flag patch on the strip at the top of the panel. The supplier does not mention it either way, so don't buy on the strength of it being there or not being there.
