A bearing running hot looks exactly like a bearing running cool, right up until it lets go.
What's in here
Two handheld infrared thermal imagers. Both are industrial diagnostic tools with a macro lens for close work on electrics and bearings.
What it is good for
| The job |
Why thermal helps |
| A hot hub or bearing |
Shows the heat before it fails |
| Chasing an electrical fault |
A loose connection runs hot |
| Finding a heat leak |
The difference shows up plainly |
What thermal will not do
-
It sees heat, not detail: it will not read a number plate or identify a face.
-
It does not see through things: not walls, not glass, and not dense scrub. Foliage blocks heat the same as it blocks light.
-
It is not night vision: if the job is seeing in the dark, night vision is the tool for it.
