Wet Dog in the Back, Not in the Carpet

The dog comes out of the creek, off the beach or out of a muddy paddock and goes straight in the back of the wagon. The boot carpet takes the water, the sand works into the pile, the hair weaves itself in, and the back bumper gets scratched every time the dog jumps up.

This liner lines the whole cargo area in one piece. Two straps hang the back panel off the rear-seat headrests so the seat backs are covered, the floor section lies over the carpet, side flaps come up the walls, and a long flap hangs out over the bumper so claws and mud land on fabric instead of paint.

Cheap boot liners get two complaints: the fabric is thin, and it does not fit the car. This one is 600D Oxford, and here are the real measurements from the supplier drawing so you can check it against your own cargo area before you buy. The supplier lists it for small and medium sedans and SUVs. It will not fit every vehicle, and we are not going to tell you it does.

What it Does
  • Beach & Paddock Runs: wet sand, mud and salt water land on the liner, not in the boot carpet, and the liner comes out to be hosed off.
  • Hair Stays on the Liner: dog hair sits on a smooth woven face instead of weaving into the carpet pile. Shake it out at the end of the trip.
  • Bumper Covered: a 440 mm flap hangs out over the rear bumper while the dog jumps in and out, then tucks back inside when you close up.
  • Seat Backs & Sides Covered: the back panel hangs off the rear headrests and the side flaps come up the walls, so the dog shaking off does not spray the trims.
  • Not Just the Dog: wet gear, muddy boots, firewood and the camping box go on the same liner.
Key Features
  • 600D Oxford Fabric: a heavier woven polyester than the thin covers these are usually made of. Water beads on it in the supplier close-up.
  • Measured Fit: 1.8 m long overall and 1.05 m wide, read off the supplier dimension drawing. Check it against your cargo area first.
  • Floor Section: 1050 × 750 mm, between the back panel and the bumper flap.
  • Back Panel: 610 mm high, hung from the rear headrests by two adjustable straps.
  • Side Flaps: one each side, 360 mm wide and 750 mm long, to cover the cargo area walls.
  • Bumper Flap: 440 mm long, hangs out over the bumper and tucks back in.
  • Hook-and-Loop Edges: the supplier close-up shows a hook-and-loop strip along the flap edge.
  • Two Edge Colours: Black Edge, or Yellow Edge (the binding shows orange-yellow in the supplier photo). The body is black on both.

Limits

What this liner will not do, stated plainly.

  • It will Not Fit Every Vehicle: the floor section is 1050 × 750 mm. A big four-wheel drive cargo area is often deeper and wider than that, so the floor will not reach every corner. The supplier pictures it for small and medium sedans and SUVs. Measure before you buy.
  • Needs Rear Headrests: the back panel hangs from the rear-seat headrests. In a ute canopy or a van with no rear seat, it will lie as a floor mat but the back panel has nothing to hang from.
  • Not a Restraint or a Barrier: it covers the cargo area and nothing else. It does not hold the dog in place, it does not stop the dog climbing over the rear seat, and it is not crash tested. No standard is claimed.
  • Water Resistant, Not Waterproof: the supplier calls it waterproof and we are not going to. No IP rating and no hydrostatic head figure are given and the seams are stitched. A soaked dog lying in one spot on a long drive, or a spilled water bowl, can find the seams and the edges.
  • Not Scratch Proof or Chew Proof: 600D is heavier than the cheap covers, but no abrasion rating is given, and a dog that chews it will get through it.
  • No Non-Slip Backing Claimed: the supplier does not say the underside is non-slip, so we will not. The straps and the flaps are what hold it in place.

Q & A

Will it Fit my Four-Wheel Drive?

Measure the cargo floor first. The floor section is 1050 mm wide and 750 mm deep, the back panel is 610 mm high and the side flaps are 360 mm wide. The supplier lists it for small and medium sedans and SUVs. In a big four-wheel drive with a long, wide cargo floor it will cover the middle and leave the edges bare.

Will it Work in my Ute Canopy?

As a floor mat, yes. The back panel is made to hang from rear-seat headrests, and a ute tub has none, so it will lie flat rather than line the walls properly.

Is This the Same as your Back Seat Covers?

No. This lines the boot. For the back seat we have a soft back seat hammock (soft fabric, no hard floor) and a hard-bottom rear seat protector (with a hard floor across the footwell).

How do I Clean it?

Take it out, shake it, hose it down and hang it to dry. The supplier gives no washing instructions, so we would not guess at a machine wash.

How Long will it Take to Get Here?

Free delivery. Allow 5 to 10 working days from the date of your order, plus 1–2 days for fulfilment. Regional and remote addresses can take longer.
