Glare coming off the water flattens everything in front of you and you cannot pick a fish, a snag or a shadow. A few hours later the light drops away, that dark lens turns into a liability, and you end up pushing it onto your forehead to see the track home. One tint is a compromise you wear all day.

The X7 hands that decision back to you. The lens lifts out of the padded frame and another clips straight in — polarised grey for hard sun and water glare, yellow for flat light and dusk, clear for when you only want the wind and grit off your eyes, and a mirrored set for open, bright country. All four sets come in the box, inside a zip case that will live in a crib bag without getting chewed up.

The arms come off as well. Swap them for the elastic strap and the frame sits tight under a helmet, on the bike, or in a boat that is moving. Foam runs the whole way around the inside of the frame, which keeps dust and wind out and stops the frame digging in over a long day.

One thing to be straight about up front: this is eyewear, not certified eye protection. There is no impact rating marked on the frame and none stated by the supplier. The Limits tab spells out exactly what that means.

Limits

This is not certified eye protection. There is no impact or ballistic marking moulded on the lenses or the temples, and the supplier states no standard. The frame and the supplier artwork were checked at high magnification and carry only the FS brand roundel. Certified impact eyewear carries a permanent mark on the lens or temple; this frame does not. Do not rely on it where certified safety eyewear is required — grinding, cutting, whipper snipping, air tools, or any task on a site that specifies rated eye protection. Wear properly rated safety glasses for those.

Only one of the four lens sets is polarised. That is the grey set. If you are expecting four polarised tints, that is not what is in the box.

UV400 is a marking, not a tested certification. It is printed on the supplier sticker and we publish it as their statement. No test certificate has been sighted, and it is not tested to AS/NZS 1067, the Australian and New Zealand sunglasses standard.

No lens category is stated. Sunglasses sold to the Australian standard carry a lens category from 0 to 4, and that number is what tells you whether a tint is legal to drive in. The supplier states no category for any of these four sets. Never wear the grey or the mirrored set for night driving. If you need eyewear you can rely on behind the wheel after dark, buy a pair with a printed lens category.

Not prescription, and there is no insert. No prescription carrier is shown or stated, and the frame is not built to take one.

No water rating. Foam and a strap are not a seal. There is no immersion or ingress rating on this frame — it is not swimming or diving eyewear.

Do I get all four lenses, or do I pick one?

All four sets come in the box. There is nothing to choose — the listing has a single option, and it ships with the grey set fitted plus the yellow, clear and mirrored sets packed in the case.

Are all four lens sets polarised?

No. Only the grey set is polarised, and that is the set fitted to the frame when it arrives. The yellow, clear and mirrored sets are tinted or coated but not polarised.

Can I use these as safety glasses at work?

No. Nothing on this frame or in the supplier information states an impact rating, and there is no moulded standard marking on the lens or the temple. If your site specifies rated eye protection, this does not meet it and it should not be substituted for gear that does.

Will they fit under a helmet?

That is what the strap is for. Take the arms off, clip the elastic head strap on, and the frame sits flat against your face with nothing hooking over your ears. It works under a bike helmet, a hard hat brim or a beanie.

Can I drive in them?

In daylight the grey polarised set is the sensible pick. But the supplier states no lens category for any of these tints, so there is no way to tell you which are legal for road use where you live. Never use the grey or the mirrored set after dark — the clear set is the one for night and low light.

Will they go over my prescription glasses?

No. The frame is a close-fitting wrap with foam around the inside, and it is not designed to sit over another pair.
