You are fishing blind and guessing.
Two hours on the same spot and nothing. You cannot tell if the fish are down there ignoring your bait, if you are sitting over bare sand, or if the structure you were told about is fifty metres to the left. So you move, and you guess again.
This drops a camera down the line and puts what is actually under the boat on a screen in front of you. Structure, weed beds, bait balls, and whether anything is showing interest in what you have tied on.
What It Does
The camera lowers on a marked cable to the monitor in the aluminium case. A ring of twelve infrared LEDs lights the water where the light has dropped off, so it still gives you a picture in murky water and at depth. The monitor takes a removable sunshield hood so you can see the screen in full sun on the water.
Key Features
- 7 inch colour monitor: TFT LCD in a hard aluminium carry case, with a removable sunshield hood for glare.
- 1000TVL camera: the supplier's stated resolution for the underwater unit.
- Twelve infrared LEDs: a lit ring around the lens for murky water and low light.
- IP68 rated camera: sealed for continuous immersion. See the Limits tab for what that does and does not tell you.
- Four cable lengths: 15 m, 20 m, 30 m or 50 m, picked at checkout.
- Runs off its own battery box: rechargeable pack and mains charger included, so it does not tap the boat's electrics.
- Comes as a kit: camera, monitor case, cable reel, battery box, charger, sunshield, floats and rod fittings.
Limits
Cable length is not a depth rating, and we are not going to let that slide. The 50 m option means fifty metres of cable. It does not mean the camera is certified to fifty metres of water. The supplier publishes an IP68 rating and no maximum depth, and IP68 on its own does not state a depth — the manufacturer is supposed to declare that separately, and this one has not. If you are working deep water, treat the depth as unknown.
- No maximum depth is published: not specified by supplier. We are not going to make one up for you.
- It is not a fish finder: there is no sonar, no depth readout and no mapping. It is a camera on a cable — you see what is in front of the lens and nothing else.
- Muddy water still beats it: the infrared ring helps in low light, but heavy silt or churned-up water will cut what you can see no matter what is fitted.
- It records nothing on its own: this is a live view. No recording function is specified by the supplier.
- "Cold-resistant" has no number on it: the supplier states it. No operating temperature range was published, so we cannot tell you where the limit sits.
Q & A
Which cable length should I get?
Match it to the water you actually fish, and allow extra for drift and current pulling the camera off vertical. Jetty and river work is usually fine on 15 m or 20 m; deeper offshore work is where the 30 m and 50 m options earn themselves.
Can I use it for ice fishing or through a hole?
The camera is sealed and the supplier calls it cold-resistant, but with no published temperature range we cannot promise how it behaves in the cold. Your call.
Will it work in salt water?
It is sold for freshwater and marine use. Rinse the camera and cable in fresh water after every salt trip — that is what kills these things, not the depth.
Is the monitor waterproof too?
The IP68 rating is quoted for the camera unit. The monitor lives in the case — keep it dry and shut the lid.
Can I record what I see?
Not as specified. If a recording function matters to you, this is not the unit to assume it on.
