Find the Hot Spot, Then Find Out Why.

A battery lug that is working loose runs hot for weeks before it melts the terminal. The pump that keeps tripping, the appliance that is dead at the plug, the power supply that has started cooking: the heat shows you where the trouble is, and a meter tells you why. Most people carry those as two tools, with two lots of batteries, and one of them is always in the other ute.

The ET13S puts both in one handheld. One button flips it between a thermal camera with a 192 × 192 sensor at 20 frames a second, and a 9999-count multimeter for DC and AC volts, resistance, capacitance, diode, continuity, frequency and duty cycle, with non-contact voltage detection as well. Point it at the battery bank under load and the hot joint stands out; switch over, put the leads on, and check it.

The front panel is marked 600V CAT II. That makes it a tool for battery banks, low-voltage solar, appliances, power supplies and circuit boards, not for the switchboard or the meter box. And 192 × 192 is a big step up from the cheap 24 × 32 sensors, but this is a multimeter with a thermal camera built in, not a dedicated high-end thermal camera.

What it Solves
  • Finds the Hot Connection: a loose or corroded lug on a battery bank, an inverter lead or a fuse holder runs warmer than its neighbours under load; the camera shows which one, the meter checks it.
  • Fault-Finds Appliances & Power Supplies: volts, continuity and a hot component on the same tool, without swapping gear halfway through the job.
  • Circuit Board Repairs: a failing part on a board often runs hotter than the rest; find it on the camera, then check it on the diode and resistance ranges.
  • Checks Motors, Pumps & Bearings: a pump motor or a fan bearing that is working too hard shows hotter than it should.
  • One Less Thing to Forget: camera and meter share one battery and one USB-C cable, so there is one tool in the bag instead of two.
Key Features
  • 192 × 192 Thermal Sensor: in the supplier's listing and specification, and on the ET13S's own pictures.
  • 20 Frames a Second: a live picture as you sweep across a battery bank or a board.
  • -20 to +550 °C Range: the supplier's figure, with adjustable emissivity from 0.1 to 0.99.
  • Hot & Cold Spot Markers: the screen shows the centre-point reading and marks the hottest and coldest points, with the maximum and minimum temperatures.
  • Five Colour Palettes: Iron Red, Rainbow, Fusion, White Heat and White Heat Highlights.
  • 9999-Count Multimeter: DC volts to 1000 V, AC volts to 750 V, resistance, capacitance, diode, continuity, frequency and duty cycle, plus an auto mode that picks the measurement for you.
  • Non-Contact Voltage Detection: the NCV mode senses voltage near a lead or an outlet without touching metal.
  • Data Chart Recording: records a multimeter reading over time as a chart, saved on the meter.
  • 2.8 in (71 mm) Touch Screen: 320 × 480, resistive, with physical buttons for power, camera and meter switching, hold and range.
  • Built-In 850 mAh Battery: charges by USB-C, with automatic screen-off and power-off; the cable is in the box.

Limits

Marked 600V CAT II, Not for the Switchboard. CAT II covers plug-in appliances and the circuits behind ordinary power points. It is not rated for switchboards, meter boxes or the supply into a building. Measuring mains voltage is for people who know what they are doing; if you are not sure, get an electrician.

The Supplier's Figures don't All Agree. The listing and the supplier's parameter sheet give different figures for the field of view and the resistance, capacitance and diode ranges. Both are shown in the Specs tab. The figures they agree on are the sensor, the frame rate, the temperature range and the voltage limits.

A Resistive Screen. It is not a phone screen. Press it with a fingernail rather than the pad of your finger, and keep sharp objects off it.

It Reads Surfaces, Not Through them. A thermal camera sees the surface temperature. Shiny metal and glass reflect heat and read wrong, so a polished bus bar can fool it unless you set the emissivity to suit.

No Water Rating. None is published. Keep it out of the rain and away from wet hands near anything live.

No Software or Macro Lens from Us. Saved pictures and chart recordings can be sent to a computer over USB-C using the maker's PC software, which we do not supply or link. Some of the supplier's pictures show an optional macro lens; it is not included and we do not sell it.

Q & A

Is it Really 192 × 192?

192 × 192 is in the supplier's listing, its specification and the ET13S's own pictures. We have not found an independent test of this model, so that is the supplier's figure. The parameter sheet says the picture is shown on the screen at 240 × 240.

Can I Use it on my Battery Bank & Solar?

Yes, for a 12, 24 or 48 V battery bank and its connections, that is one of the best uses: under load, a poor connection runs hotter than a good one, and the camera shows it. Anything on the mains side, the switchboard or a grid-connected solar system is electrician work.

What is NCV?

Non-contact voltage detection. Hold the meter near a lead or an outlet and it indicates whether voltage is present, without touching any metal. Treat it as a quick check, never as proof that a circuit is dead before you touch it.

The Meter Says Signal Generator. Is it One?

The faceplate in the supplier's pictures reads "Multimeter Signal Generator", but the supplier's specification lists no signal output and no figures for one. Buy it as a thermal camera and a multimeter, not a signal generator.

How do I Charge it?

By USB-C. The built-in battery is 850 mAh lithium, and the USB-C cable is in the box. The supplier does not give a charging time or a run time.

Does it Work in the Dark?

The thermal camera does. It sees heat, not light, so it works the same at night as in the day. It does not see through walls, glass or water.

Will it Take Someone's Temperature?

No. It is not a medical device and is not sold for measuring people.

Do you Have a Cheaper One?

Yes. The ET11S is the same idea with a much smaller 24 × 32 sensor, fine for seeing which of two things is hotter but not for detail. It is in our Thermal Vision range, along with our other thermal cameras.
