Wind Coming Straight Through your Shirt? Zip This Up.
First light, a wind coming across an open yard, and a work shirt or a knit jumper that lets it straight through. You stand there stiff until the sun gets up, or you pile on whatever is behind the seat of the ute and still feel it on your back.
This is a hooded softshell jacket — a softshell that wind does not walk through the way it walks through knit. The hood has drawcords, each cuff closes with a hook-and-loop tab, and the front zips the full length up into a high collar. The supplier's close-up photos show a soft fleece lining inside the collar.
What the supplier does not publish is a water rating, a fabric weight or a warmth figure. Its own listing title says "waterproof", but nothing printed backs that up, so this page does not repeat it. Treat it as a wind layer, not a rain jacket.
It is sold alongside our Tactical Wear-Resistant Hiking Work Trousers — the grey trousers with black knee panels. Both are photographed in a similar grey with black panels, so the two go together.
What it Does
- Cuts the Wind: the softshell stops the draught that walks straight through a work shirt or a knit jumper, which is most of what makes a cold start miserable.
- Closes the Gaps: drawcords on the hood, a hook-and-loop tab at each cuff and a full-length zip up into a high collar shut the openings a cold wind finds first.
- Carries the Small Gear: zipped hand pockets, flapped chest pockets and zipped sleeve pockets keep a phone, keys or a notepad where you can reach them with the jacket done up.
- Takes a Patch: a hook-and-loop panel on the upper sleeve holds a name tape or a company patch without sewing anything. No patch comes with it.
- Goes with the Grey Trousers: pair it with our Tactical Wear-Resistant Hiking Work Trousers in grey for a grey-and-black pairing.
Key Features
- Softshell: the supplier calls it a soft shell and lists the shell material as polyester.
- Fleece Lining: a soft fleece lining shows inside the collar in the supplier's close-up photos; the supplier lists the lining as polyester.
- Fixed Hood: with a drawcord and toggle each side. Another seller of this same jacket lists no detachable parts, and no photo shows a hood zip or press studs.
- Full-Length Front Zip: zips right up into a high collar.
- Cuff Tabs: a hook-and-loop tab on each cuff to close the sleeve down over a glove or a wrist.
- Pockets: two zipped hand pockets, two flapped chest pockets and zipped pockets on the sleeves.
- Black Panels: black fabric across the chest pockets and the upper sleeves on the grey and green jackets.
- Patch Panel: hook-and-loop on the upper sleeve.
- Three Colours: grey, black and green.
- Five Sizes: M through to XXXL, with the measurements behind the Size Guide button under the sizes.
- Delivery: Free Standard Delivery, 5 to 10 working days from the day you order. Allow 1–2 days for fulfilment. Regional and remote addresses can take longer.
Limits
- Not a Rain Jacket: no water rating, no hydrostatic head figure and no taped seams are published for it. The supplier's title says waterproof; nothing printed backs that, so in steady rain expect to get wet.
- No Warmth Figure: no fabric weight and no temperature range are published. The supplier lists it for autumn and winter and describes it as thick. How warm it feels depends on what you wear under it.
- Asian Sizing: the label is an Asian size, and the bigger sizes run about one size small of an Australian label. Go by the measurements behind the Size Guide button under the sizes, not the label in your usual jacket.
- Props Not Included: the gloves, carabiner clip and pens in the supplier's photos, and the beanie, sunglasses, watch and trousers in the worn shots, are not part of this listing. You get the jacket.
- Not Certified Workwear: no flame resistance, no hi-vis, no cut resistance. Nothing on the garment is tested or marked to ISO 11612 for heat and flame or to AS/NZS 4602.1 for high visibility, and no certificate has been sighted. If your site specifies certified clothing, this is not it.
- Tactical is a Style: the cut and the patch panels are a look. This is a commercial jacket sold to the public — not issued kit, with no armed-forces approval, and nothing on this page should be read as claiming one.
Q & A
Will it Keep Me Dry?
Not in steady rain. No water rating is published for it and the supplier does not say the seams are taped. It is a wind layer — if you are out in weather all day, wear a rain shell over it.
What Size do I Take?
Measure round your chest and check it against the Size Guide button under the sizes. The labels are Asian sizes and the bigger ones run about one size small of an Australian label, so measure rather than buying your usual size.
Does it Match the Grey Work Trousers?
It is photographed in a similar grey with black panels to our Tactical Wear-Resistant Hiking Work Trousers, so the two go together. They are different fabrics — the trousers are a ripstop — so expect a close match rather than an identical shade.
Is it Warm?
It has a fleece lining in the collar and it stops the wind, which does most of the work on a cold morning. No warmth rating is published, so on a properly cold day wear a jumper or a fleece under it.
Is the Hood Removable?
Treat it as fixed. Another seller of this same jacket lists no detachable parts, and no photo shows a hood zip or press studs.
What Comes in the Box?
One jacket. Everything else in the photos — gloves, clip, pens, beanie, sunglasses, watch and trousers — is a prop and is not included.
