Steady glass from the driver’s seat

You pick up movement on the far tree line, bring the thermal up, and the picture dances all over the place. At high magnification every heartbeat is a wobble, your elbows have nowhere to sit, and there is no room in a cab to stand a tripod.

This clamp turns the door glass into the tripod. Wind the window to a comfortable height, tighten the clamping bolt over the glass, screw your optic onto the plate, and it sits still for as long as you care to watch. The pan lever swings it smoothly onto whatever you are following and locks it there.

It is a camera-thread mount, plain and simple. If your gear has the standard 1/4" tripod socket underneath — most spotting scopes, monoculars with a tripod socket, thermal and night vision units and compact cameras do — it screws straight on. If there is no socket, it does not fit; check the underside of your unit first.

What It Does

• Clamps the door glass: a U-clamp with padded faces winds onto the window edge with a clamping bolt — no drilling, no suction cups, nothing permanent.
• Holds your optic still: the mounting plate takes anything with a standard 1/4" camera thread — spotting scopes, thermal and night vision monoculars, compact cameras.
• Pans and tilts: a damped head with an 85 mm locking lever tracks movement smoothly and locks the angle when you find it.
• Packs away small: the body is 59 x 49 x 39 mm and 214 g — it lives in the glovebox between trips.

Limits

Straight up, here is what this mount will not do.

• No load rating is published: the supplier states no maximum load and we are not going to invent one. In the supplier’s own photos it carries thermal monoculars and 50 mm-class spotting monoculars — that is the class of gear it is shown holding. A full-size camera with a long lens has no published figure behind it.
• It needs glass to bite: the clamp grips the top edge of a partly raised window. Window all the way down, nothing to clamp.
• Engine off for a still image: idle vibration travels straight up the glass and into the eyepiece at high magnification.
• Optics and cameras only: the plate takes gear with a 1/4" thread socket and nothing else. It is not a rest — nothing should lean on it that is not screwed to it.
• No weather sealing claimed: no IP rating is stated. Treat it as a dry-weather bit of kit and wipe it down if it cops rain.

Q & A

Will it fit my thermal monocular or spotting scope?

If the unit has the standard 1/4" tripod socket on its underside, yes — that is the same thread nearly every optic and camera tripod uses. If your optic has no socket, you would need an adapter ring, which is not included.

How much weight will it carry?

The supplier publishes no maximum load, so we will not quote one. The supplier’s own photos show it holding thermal monoculars and a 50 mm-class spotting monocular, which is the sort of weight it is built around.

Will it scratch the window glass?

The clamp faces carry soft pads where they meet the glass — you can see them in the photos. Tighten the bolt firmly rather than savagely; the pads are there to keep metal off the glass.
