Answer the phone without pulling a glove off.

You are halfway through a job or halfway up a track, the phone goes, and the glove has to come off to answer it. Off it comes, onto the bonnet or into a pocket, and by smoko you are down to one. The failure was never the glove tearing. It is the glove not being on your hand when you reach for it.

These have conductive panels on the fingertips, so a phone screen still reads your touch with the gloves on. The palm is a synthetic suede panel with moulded ribs running up the fingers, so a wet spanner or a cold steering wheel has something to bite on. Across the back of the hand sits a moulded hard guard over the knuckles and down each finger, with knitted mesh either side of it so your hands are not sitting in their own sweat.

The knuckle guard is a physical part, and a physical part is all we are going to call it. No protective standard is published for these gloves — no EN 388, no ANSI/ISEA 105, no cut level and no impact level — and we are not going to dress a moulded lump of polymer up as a rating it has never been tested to. They are a knockabout glove for grip, grazes, splinters and keeping the weather off your hands. Read the Limits tab before you buy them for anything past that.

What It Does

• Keeps the pair on your hands: check the map, take the call, punch in a job number — the gloves never come off, so they never get put down somewhere and left behind.
• Grip on cold steel: first light, frost on the tray, and the suede palm and finger ribs give you something to hold a bar or a wheel with instead of sliding off it.
• Something between you and the ute door: the moulded guard sits over the back of the hand and takes the everyday knocks and grazes. It carries no impact rating and we are not claiming one.
• Hands out of the scrub: pushing through lantana or stacking firewood, a full-finger glove keeps the splinters and the stings off you.
• Blends into the kit you already own: black, camouflage, sand or green, so they sit with the rest of your gear instead of announcing themselves.

Limits

This is the part most glove listings leave out, so here it is first.

There is no protective rating of any kind. Nothing on this glove is tested or marked to EN 388 (abrasion, cut, tear and puncture), ANSI/ISEA 105 (the American cut and impact scale) or EN 13594 (motorcycle gloves). No certificate has been sighted and no standard is printed on the product. If your site, your job or your insurer specifies a rated glove, this is not that glove — go and look for those marks on whatever you buy instead.

It will not stop a blade. There is no cut level published, so treat it as no cut protection at all. If you are filleting, boning, handling sheet metal or breaking down glass, use a glove that is actually rated for it — our cut resistant stainless steel mesh gloves are built for that job and this one is not.

It is not motorcycle gear. The old listing put these forward as motorcycle gloves. We have taken that out. There is no abrasion testing, no impact testing and no scaphoid protection stated, and a road slide is not the place to find out what a glove is worth.

Not waterproof, not insulated. No membrane, lining, temperature range or water rating is specified by the supplier. Treat them as a dry-weather, mild-weather glove. There is no chemical, heat, flame or electrical resistance stated either.

The supplier publishes two different size charts. The sizing artwork that ships with these gloves gives a palm girth of 21–23 cm (210–230 mm) for M, while a second chart supplied with the same listing gives 17.5–19 cm (175–190 mm) for M. They disagree by roughly a full size, and the artwork itself carries a note that different models run slightly differently. Both charts are printed in the Specs tab so you can see the spread. Measure your own palm and check the fit before you order.

The touch screen panels are not the whole glove. Only the fingertip panels carry the conductive material. Resistive screens, older machine displays and some vehicle screens will not respond to a glove at all.

Q & A

Will these stop a cut or a crush?

No. There is no cut level and no impact level published for them, and we are not going to imply one from the shape of the knuckle guard. Assume no cut resistance and no impact protection, and pick a rated glove if the job needs one.

Can I ride in them?

Not on our say-so. Nothing here is tested to EN 13594, the motorcycle glove standard, and no palm slider or scaphoid guard is fitted. People do ride in gloves like these; we are not going to be the ones telling you it is a motorcycle glove.

Which fingers work on a phone screen?

The supplier states the thumb and the middle finger. Conductive panels are visible on the fingertips in the product photos, but we have not counted them on a glove in hand, so treat the supplier's figure as the supplier's figure.

What size do I take?

Stretch your hand flat and run a soft tape around the palm, behind the thumb, and read the girth off that. Then check it against both charts in the Specs tab — they disagree, so if your measurement lands near a boundary you are choosing between two sizes, not one. There is no returns cover for a change of mind, so it is worth measuring properly.

Are they warm, and will they keep water out?

No lining, no membrane and no temperature range are specified by the supplier, so we cannot tell you either way. The mesh back is built to breathe rather than to block wind, which tells you something about where they sit.

How long will they take to arrive, and what does delivery cost?
