It's dark by six, the wheel nuts are tight, and the only light you've got is a phone torch you have to hold. Or you're pitching the tent after a long drive, or the power's gone out and the fuse box is in the garage. Every one of those jobs needs two hands and a light that points where you're looking.

This head torch sits on an elastic headband and leaves both hands free. It has nine LEDs (one big one in the middle and eight smaller ones round it), white spotlight and floodlight settings, a red light, and a motion sensor: wave your hand past it to switch it on or off without touching it. It charges by USB-C, and the cable is in the box.

Limits

Brightness and Run Time: We don't Print them. The maker's own figures disagree (2,000 lumens in one place, 2,500 in another; run times from 4 to 30 hours depending on the picture). We'd rather say nothing than print a number we can't stand behind.

Rain, Not a Swim. The maker says it handles splashes, but its listing and its pictures give two different water ratings, so we don't claim one. Don't put it under water.

No Wall Plug in the Box. You get the USB-C cable. Use a phone charger, a power bank or a car USB port.

One Torch per Order. Some of the maker's photos show two torches. You get one head torch and one cable.

How do I Charge it?

Plug the USB-C cable into the port on the lamp and into any USB charger. The indicator lights on top show the charge.

Can I Turn the Sensor Off?

Yes. The sensor has its own button; leave it off and the torch works from the power button alone.

Will it Fit a Child?

The headband is elastic and adjustable, and the maker shows it on children. Check it's snug before they head off.
