The drill you put down is the drill you go back for.

You are up the ladder with the drill in one hand and nothing left to hold on with. So you rest it on a tread, or hook it over a rung, or come back down carrying it. Every one of those is a hand you have not got on the ladder, and that is how people come off them.

On the ground it is the same story in slower motion. The drill goes on the bench, on the roof sheet, on the tray of the ute — and then you are walking the job looking for it. The failure is not the drill breaking. It is the drill not being on you when you reach for it.

This is a fabric drill pouch that threads onto your belt. The drill drops in nose-down with its battery still fitted, a webbing strap clips over the top on a side-release buckle, and the bottom of the pouch is open so a long bit or a chuck can poke straight through. Both hands come back.

It is sized for compact drills and drivers. A full-size framing drill with a big battery on it is a tight fit at best, and we would rather say that here than have you find out on site.

What It Does

• Keeps both hands free: the drill lives on your hip instead of in your hand, so you can hold the ladder, the rail or the workpiece.
• Carries it loaded: the drill goes in with its battery still fitted — you are not pulling packs off to make it fit.
• Holds the bits with it: a row of stitched loops across the front takes driver bits, hex keys and long drills so the consumables travel with the tool.
• Clips shut over the top: a webbing strap and side-release buckle hold the drill down when you kneel, climb or lean over.
• Threads onto your own belt: a sewn tunnel on the back panel takes a normal work belt, so there is nothing extra to buy or fit.

Limits

"Heavy duty" is a word, not a number. Our supplier states no denier for the fabric and no load rating for the pouch or the strap, so neither figure appears on this page. Other sellers of this same pattern quote a fabric weight, but we have no confirmation it is the same cloth, so we are not putting their number on our listing. Treat it as a mid-weight work-fabric pouch.

It is not a fall-arrest or drop-prevention device. There is no tether point, no rated attachment and no certification of any kind stated or sighted. Do not use it to carry a tool at height where a dropped object matters — that job needs a rated tool lanyard, and this is not one.

It will not swallow a big framing drill. The photographs show it carrying compact drills and drivers. The internal opening is not specified by the supplier. If you run a large 18V drill with a fat battery, measure the body of your tool against the pouch size in the Specs table before you decide.

The bottom is open by design. That is what lets a long bit and the chuck pass through, and it is also why a loose short bit dropped into one of the open-ended loops can slide straight out the bottom. Put the small stuff in the closed loops or the front pocket.

We are not calling it waterproof. No water rating is stated and none is printed on it. It is a fabric pouch: leave it out in the rain and the contents get wet.

No belt is included. The product photographs show the pouch on its own and no belt is listed with it. You thread your own belt through the rear tunnel.

It does not lock the tool in. The strap holds the drill down for normal work. It is not a retention system and a hard enough knock or a full inversion can still shed the tool.

Q & A

Does the drill go in with the battery still on it?

Yes. The product photographs show cordless drills and drivers sitting in the pouch with their battery packs fitted — the tool goes in nose-down and the handle and battery stay proud of the top. You are not pulling packs off to holster it.

How does it attach — a clip, a stud or MOLLE webbing?

None of those. There is a sewn-on panel across the back that forms a closed belt tunnel, and your belt threads through it. There is no metal clip, no press-studded strap and no PALS ladder, so it will not clip onto a pocket edge and it will not weave onto MOLLE gear. Because the tunnel is closed, the belt comes off to fit it and comes off again to take it out of the run.

What size drill actually fits?

The supplier does not state the internal opening, so we cannot give you a millimetre figure and we are not going to invent one. What we can tell you is what the pictures show: compact 12V and 18V drills and impact drivers, sitting nose-down with the chuck through the open bottom. Sellers of this same pattern list the pouch itself at about 170 x 260 mm overall. A big framing drill is the one to be careful about.

What is the fabric and how tough is it?

It is a woven Oxford-type polyester with bound edges, which is the normal cloth for a tool pouch at this price. No denier and no abrasion figure is stated by our supplier, so there is no number on this page for either. If a rated fabric weight matters to your job, this is not the pouch that proves one.

Can I wear it on my left hip?

The belt tunnel sits centrally on the back panel, so it will run either way along a belt. The pocket itself is cut on an angle, so the drill will sit at a different rake depending on which side you hang it — worth a try both ways before you settle on a side.

What is the difference between the three options?

Trim colour only. The body, the shape, the pocket layout and the hardware are identical on all three; the webbing bands and the stitching are yellow, blue or red.
