Genuine Leather Belt Phone Holster

A pocket is a rough place to keep a phone.

Back pocket and you sit on it. Front pocket and it works its way out climbing down off the machine. Shirt pocket and it goes in the dam the first time you bend over. And when both hands are full, a phone you can feel through your jeans may as well be back in the ute.

Most of the time a missed call is nothing. Now and again it is the bloke who needed to know you had shifted paddocks, or the one call you had been waiting on all day.

This is a leather belt holster. Your belt threads through a slot in the back panel, the phone drops into the pocket face-in, and the top corner is cut away so you can get a thumb and finger on it and draw it one-handed. No clip to snap off, no flap to undo, nothing to charge.

It is a way of carrying a phone, not a way of armouring one. If you are after a case that shrugs off a drop onto concrete, this is not it — read the Limits tab before you order.

What It Does

• Gets it off your backside: the phone rides on your hip instead of under you every time you sit down in the cab.
• One-handed draw: the angled cut-away leaves a corner of the phone proud, so you can pinch it out without putting anything down.
• Uses the belt you own: the belt threads through a slot in the back panel. No separate strap, no clip that fatigues and lets go.
• Keeps the screen clear of your kit: out of the pocket it shares with keys, shifters and swarf.
• You always know where it is: same spot on your hip every time, so no patting down four pockets when it rings.

Where It Earns Its Keep

• In and out of the ute all day: twenty stops a shift and the phone never gets sat on, wedged into the seat or left on the tray.
• On the tractor or the loader: a back pocket in a bouncing seat is how phones end up down the side of the cab. On the belt it stays put and stays reachable.
• Hands full on the job: you can see who is calling and get to it without setting down what you are holding.
• Hands that do not do fiddly: no zip, no press stud, no clip to line up — a lot of blokes buy these because a phone in a deep pocket has become a two-minute job.
• Camp and the boat ramp: phone on your belt instead of face down in the sand or on the tailgate you are about to drive off with.

Getting The Fit Right

Read this before you order. There are 54 variants on this page and they are not sizes in the usual sense. They break down as 27 fit options in two colours — brown and black. Of the 27, twenty-six name a specific phone and one is a Universal Bag.

Measure your phone with its case on, and match on the measurement — not on the model name. The supplier sizes each option around the bare phone. A phone in a thick rubber or rugged case is several millimetres longer, wider and thicker than the bare handset, and that is enough to stop it going in. This is the single biggest cause of a holster going back. If you run a slim case you will usually be fine on your own model; if you run a bulky one, take the Universal Bag or size up to a physically larger model.

The supplier's own option names have three problems and we are not going to paper over them:

• Two Samsung bands overlap: "S24 S23 S22 S21 Plus" and "S22 S21 S23 S24 S25" both list the S21 through S24. The supplier has since relabelled the same two options "S20-S26 Plus" and "S22 S23 S24 S25 S26", which settles it: the one with "Plus" in its name is cut for the Plus-size bodies, the other for the standard ones.
• "iPhone 14 Max" is not a phone: Apple never made one. It is almost certainly meant to be the iPhone 14 Plus, but the supplier has not confirmed that, so treat it as unconfirmed.
• Plenty of handsets are not listed: there is no option for iPhone 11, XR, XS, SE or 17, and no Galaxy A13, A72 or standard S20. If yours is not in the list, the Universal Bag is the only option on this page — and the supplier does not publish its internal dimensions.

Key Features

• Leather construction: stitched right around the pocket and the backing panel, with the raw edge left visible in the supplier's photos.
• Belt slot, not a clip: a cut slot in the back panel that the belt passes through. Nothing to break, but it does mean unthreading your belt to fit or remove it.
• Open-top pocket: no flap, no stud, no magnet. The phone is held by friction against the leather.
• Angled cut-away: one corner of the pocket is dropped away so the phone sits proud and can be gripped.
• Sits flat to the hip: the backing panel is offset to one side so the pouch tucks in beside the belt rather than standing off it.
• Two colours: brown and black. The supplier codes the brown as "Coffe", and one imported review reports it reading redder than the photos.
• 27 fit options: 26 phone-specific plus a Universal Bag, across iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Xiaomi.
• Nothing to power: no battery, no magnets near the phone, no charging.

Limits

This is the honest part. It is a leather pouch that carries a phone. Here is everything it will not do.

• It is not a rugged case: it will not stop a drop onto concrete. Leather takes some of the sting out of a knock, and that is all. If your phone lives a hard life, keep it in a proper protective case and buy the fit that swallows that case.
• Nothing holds the phone in: there is no flap, stud, magnet or strap. Friction against the leather is the only retention. Bend right over, take a solid knock, or come off a bike, and the phone can come out.
• It is not waterproof: no water rating is stated and leather is not a seal. Rain, a dunking or a wet day will get through it and will mark the leather.
• Snug now, looser later: leather stretches with use. New, it can be tight enough to need two hands. Months in, the same pouch will be looser than the day it arrived — which is fine for the draw and worse for retention. Judge it on how it holds at six months, not at six days.
• The belt-carry trade-off: on your hip the phone is more exposed than it is in a pocket — more likely to catch a doorframe, a gate post or the ground if you go down. What you get back is that it is never buried under tools, never sat on, and never a two-handed job to reach. That is the swap you are making. If you spend the day on a quad or a bike, a pocket or a chest rig is the safer carry.
• Sitting down is where people notice it: worn on the hip the pouch can foul the seat when you sit or fold into a low cab. Try it forward of the hip bone rather than directly on it.
• Not a wallet or a multi-tool carrier: the supplier's photos show a small stitched panel on the back face, but they do not say what it is for or what it holds. Buy it as a phone holster only.
• We cannot verify the leather grade: the supplier states leather and nothing further — no tannage, no thickness, and no statement of whether it is full-grain, top-grain or split. See the Specs tab.
• Belt width is unstated: the supplier does not publish a maximum belt width for the slot. Wide work belts and tool belts may not pass through it.

Q & A

How do I pick the right one out of 54?
The 54 are 27 fit options in two colours. Pick your colour, then your fit. Measure your phone with its case on and match on the actual size, not on the model name printed on the option — that is what stops most returns.

Will it fit my phone with the case on?
Only if the case is slim. Each option is cut around the bare phone, so a thick rubber or rugged case usually will not go in. Your choices are a slim case, the Universal Bag, or a larger model option. The supplier does not publish internal dimensions for any of them, so we cannot give you a millimetre figure.

Does it clip on, or does the belt go through it?
The belt threads through a slot in the back panel. There is no clip. It is more secure than a clip and it will not fatigue, but it does mean you have to unthread your belt to put it on or take it off — you cannot pull it off mid-shift.

Will my phone fall out of it?
It can. There is no flap, stud or magnet — the phone is held by friction alone, and leather stretches over time so that grip loosens. It is fine for walking, driving and normal work. It is not the carry for a quad bike, a horse or anything where you are getting thrown about.

Is it real leather?
The supplier states leather and says nothing more — no grade, no tannage, no thickness. We are not going to tell you it is full-grain when nobody has told us that. It is a leather pouch at a leather-pouch price, and if the exact hide specification matters to you, this is not the product to buy blind.

Left hip or right hip?
Only one build is made. The backing panel is offset to one side, so it naturally sits on one hip — the supplier does not state which, and there is no left-handed and right-handed version to choose between.
