In and out of the ute all shift, up and down a ladder, over the side of the boat. The phone ends up in a back pocket or a shirt pocket, and both of those are wrong. Back pocket, you sit on it. Shirt pocket, you lean over the tray and it goes onto the gravel.

A cracked phone on site is not just a cracked phone. It is no photo of the fault, no call to the crew, no map on the drive home — and it is you making the trip into town to sort it out instead of finishing the job.

This is a plain fabric holster that puts the phone on your belt where you can feel it. A flap folds over the top and holds shut on hook-and-loop. There is a card slot on the front for a debit card and a licence, and an elastic loop down the side for a pen or a stylus. It hangs three ways: threaded onto your belt, clipped on with the metal spring clip, or hooked to a pack strap with the carabiner.

It comes in four sizes, and the supplier sizes them by the phone's screen rather than by the phone. If you run a chunky case, read the Limits tab before you pick one.

What It Does

• Gets it off your backside: the phone rides on your hip instead of under you every time you sit down in the ute.
• Holds shut: the top flap folds over and grips on hook-and-loop, so the phone is not going to walk out when you bend over.
• Carries a card or two: a slot on the front takes a debit card and a licence, so a quick run to the servo does not need your wallet.
• Hangs three ways: belt tunnel, metal spring clip or carabiner — whichever suits the belt, the overalls or the pack strap you have on.
• Sits flat or upright: the clip lets you run it vertical on the hip or horizontal across the front of the belt.
• Keeps the pen with it: the side loop holds a pen or a stylus so the thing you sign with is on the same belt as the thing you photograph with.

Limits

Here is what this holster will not do, so you can decide before it turns up.

• It is not sized for a case: the four sizes are quoted by screen diagonal only, and the supplier publishes no internal measurement. A phone in a chunky rugged case will very likely need the next size up, and we cannot tell you which one because the internal space is not stated anywhere.
• There is a gap in the range: L stops at a 5.3 inch screen and XL starts at 5.5 inch. Nothing is quoted for a screen between those two figures, and the supplier does not say which way to go.
• It is not water resistant: no rating is published, the fabric is not sealed and the top flap is a hook-and-loop closure rather than a seal. Treat it as a fabric pouch in the rain and put the phone somewhere else in a downpour.
• It is not impact protection: a fabric pouch takes the scuffs and the pocket abuse. It is not a drop-rated case, no drop testing is published, and it is not a substitute for a case if you drop things onto rock.
• The RFID label is not backed up: the supplier's own product photo prints "RFID Blocking Technology" beside the card slot. No shielding material, no standard and no test result is stated anywhere, so we are not going to repeat that claim. If blocking a contactless scan matters to you, buy a sleeve that publishes a specification.
• The carabiner is not for climbing: it is a small accessory clip with no load rating printed on it and none published. Use it to hang the pouch off a strap, nothing else.
• Belt width is not stated: the supplier gives no maximum belt width for the tunnel or the clip. A wide tradie belt may not thread through.
• Card count is not stated: the photos show two cards in the slot. The supplier does not publish a capacity, so do not plan on stuffing a wallet's worth in there.
• No MOLLE attachment: the back has a belt tunnel and a clip. There are no MOLLE straps on it despite where it sits in the range.

Q & A

Will my phone fit if it is in a case?

The honest answer is that we cannot tell you, because the supplier only quotes screen size and never publishes an internal measurement. What we can tell you is the outside of the pouch: the M is 135 × 75 × 25 mm, the L 150 × 80 × 25 mm, the XL 165 × 90 × 25 mm and the XXL 175 × 100 × 25 mm, and the body has some give in it. Measure your phone with the case on, and if it is close, go up a size.

Which size for a modern large phone?

XXL covers a 6.3–6.7 inch screen and is the biggest one made, at 175 × 100 × 25 mm outside. Most current large-format phones sit inside that screen range. Anything with a screen bigger than 6.7 inch is outside what the supplier quotes.

Does the clip come off if I would rather thread my belt through it?

You do not need to remove it. The back panel has a sewn belt tunnel as well as the metal clip, so you can thread the belt through the tunnel and leave the clip unused. The clip is riveted on, so it is not designed to be taken off.

Can it carry a small torch or a multitool instead of a phone?

It is a soft-sided pouch with a hook-and-loop flap, so yes, it will hold something else of similar size. There is no internal divider and no retention beyond the flap, so anything narrow will move around inside it.

Does the card slot really block card scanning?

The supplier's artwork says it does. Nothing behind that claim is published — no shielding material, no standard, no test — so we are treating it as an ordinary fabric card slot with a flap over it. It keeps a card handy and out of the weather. That is all we will stand behind.
