A Proper Watch: Hands, a Date, No Charger.

The smartwatch is flat again. It was flat on Tuesday as well, and the charger is in the other bag. All you wanted was the time and the date, and now you are digging the phone out of a pocket under a hi-vis to get them.

This is a conventional quartz watch. Three hands, a date window at three o’clock, and a battery fitted inside, so there is no charging lead, no app and no Bluetooth to pair. The case and bracelet are stainless steel, the hands are luminous so you can read it in a dark cab or tent, and the supplier lists the movement as Japanese-made quartz. Ten dial and bracelet combinations, from plain black on silver steel to brown on rose gold tone.

Two things straight up. The case back is stamped 3 ATM, and that means rain, sweat and a splash, not swimming and not the shower. And it is not a smartwatch. It sits with the smartwatches on our store because that is where the watches live, but there is nothing on it that counts steps, reads your pulse or shows a message. It tells the time and the date, and that is the whole job.

Limits

It is Not a Swimming Watch.

The case back says 3 ATM and the listing says 3 bar. That rating covers rain, sweat and washing your hands, and nothing more. Do not swim in it, do not shower in it, keep it out of the spa and hot water, and do not pull the crown out while it is wet. It is not for diving in any form. One of the supplier’s pictures shows this watch sitting in breaking waves; we left that picture off this page because the rating does not back it.

It is Not a Smartwatch.

No app, no notifications, no step count, no heart rate and no GPS. If you want any of those, this is the wrong watch. If you want the time and the date without a charger, it is the right one.

We Cannot Give you an Exact Size.

The supplier lists the dial only as falling in a 40 to 44 mm bracket and the band width in a 20 to 24 mm bracket, which are category ranges rather than measurements. Case thickness is given as 11 mm. Band length is given as “22” with no unit. Weight is not given at all. If an exact case size matters to you, ask us before you order and we will tell you what we can find out.

The Glass is Described Two Ways.

The listing calls it a hardened mineral glass. One of the supplier’s pictures calls it “sapphire mineral glasses”. We are going with mineral glass and not claiming sapphire crystal. Treat it like any mineral-glass watch: it resists everyday knocks better than plastic, and it will still mark if you drag it down a brick wall.

Shock & Magnet Claims are the Supplier’s, Not Ours.

The supplier ticks “shock resistant” and “anti-magnetic” but names no test and no standard behind either. We are not repeating them as claims. It is a dress-style steel watch: fine for daily wear, not built to take a fall onto concrete or a day on the jackhammer.

Battery Life is Not Specified.

The battery comes fitted, but the supplier gives neither the cell type nor how long it lasts. When it does run down, a battery change is a job for a watch repairer.

Will I Need to Charge it?

No. It is a quartz watch running on a fitted battery. There is no charging lead and nothing to pair with your phone.

Can I Wear it in the Shower or for a Swim?

No. The 3 ATM rating on the case back covers rain, sweat and splashes only. Take it off before the shower, the pool or the beach.

How do I Set the Date & Time?

Pull the crown out one click and turn it to set the date; pull it out two clicks to set the time, then push it fully back in. The supplier does not claim a perpetual calendar, so expect to wind the date forward by hand after a month with fewer than 31 days.

Will the Bracelet Fit my Wrist?

The band length is listed as “22” with no unit, so we cannot promise a fit range. The bracelet is made of pinned links, which you can see on the side of the bracelet in the supplier’s case-back photo. No sizing tool or spare links are listed, so a jeweller or watch repairer is the easy way to have links taken out.

Do the Hands Glow in the Dark?

Yes, the hands are luminous, and the supplier’s close-up shows the hour markers glowing too. How bright and for how long is not specified.

Is the Rose Gold Version Real Gold?

No gold is listed anywhere. The case and bracelet are listed as stainless steel on every option; the rose gold tone and black versions are colour finishes on that steel. How the finish is applied is not specified.
