Low profile, packs flat, lives in the glovebox.
The cap you actually own is sitting on the bench at home. So you spend the afternoon squinting into the sun with your neck going red, and by knock-off you have got a headache and a burnt forehead. A cap does not fail by wearing out. It fails by not being there.
This is a flat top patrol cut — a soft crown and a stitched, pre-curved peak. There is no stiff structured front panel, so it folds down and sits flat in a glovebox, a crib bag or the lid pocket of a daypack instead of taking up the same room as a rigid baseball cap. That is the whole argument for it: cheap enough and flat enough to keep a spare where you actually are.
Eight colourways — six camouflage patterns and two solids. Two metal eyelet vents per side let some air through the crown. It shades your eyes and your face. It does not cover your ears or the back of your neck, and there is no UPF rating printed on it, so if you want full coverage a broad brim or a boonie is the better pick.
What It Does
- Gets the glare off: a pre-curved stitched peak that keeps direct sun out of your eyes on site, on the water or behind the wheel.
- Packs down flat: the crown is soft and unstructured, so it folds rather than holding a rigid dome in your bag.
- Vents the crown: two metal eyelets per side move a little air through instead of sealing your head in.
- Keeps you low key: a flat patrol cut sits closer to the head than a high-crown baseball cap, so it does not announce itself.
- Suits either camo or plain: six camouflage patterns if you want to disappear, black or stone if you want a cap that just gets on with it.
Key Features
- Flat top patrol cut: the cadet silhouette — flat crown, low sides, short peak.
- Ripstop weave: the fabric carries a visible ripstop grid in the supplier photographs. The fibre content is not stated anywhere.
- Two vents per side: metal eyelets set into the side panels.
- Stitched peak: multiple rows of topstitching across the underside of the brim.
- Seamed side band: a separate band panel runs round the base of the crown.
- Eight colourways: ACU, A-TACS, Black, CP, DD, Durban, Kahki and Sand.
- Six camouflage patterns: ACU, A-TACS, CP, DD, Durban and Sand. Black and Kahki are solid colours, not camouflage.
- One size: sold as one size fits all. No head circumference is published by the supplier.
- Unisex cut: one shape, no separate mens or womens sizing.
Limits
Straight up, here is what this cap will not do.
- No published head size: the supplier states one size fits all and gives no head circumference. Every supplier photograph is a front three-quarter view, so we cannot see the back of the cap and no adjuster or closure is stated. If your head is at either extreme, we cannot promise it will fit you.
- No stated fibre content: the weave is clearly a ripstop grid, but nothing states whether it is cotton, a cotton blend or polyester. We are not going to guess it for you.
- No UPF rating: no sun protection factor is printed on it or claimed by the supplier. It shades your eyes and face because it is a cap with a peak, not because it is rated.
- No ear or neck cover: the peak shades the front only. Your ears and the back of your neck are uncovered. A broad brim or a boonie does that job properly.
- Not head protection: this is fabric. It offers no impact protection whatsoever, no part of it is tested or marked to AS/NZS 1801, and it is not a substitute for a hard hat anywhere a hard hat is required.
- Not waterproof: no coating or water-resistance treatment is stated. Treat it as a fabric cap that will wet through in real rain.
- Not issued kit: the patterns are commercial prints on a civilian cap. It carries no military or naval affiliation, is not issued equipment, and nothing about it is certified to any defence standard.
- Soft crown creases: the thing that lets it pack flat is the same thing that means it will crease and rumple. If you want a cap that holds a crisp shape, this is not it.
Q & A
Will it fit my head?
It is sold as one size fits all and the supplier publishes no head circumference, so we cannot give you a number to measure against. We are not going to invent one. If you are well outside an average adult head size, that is a real risk on this cap.
Are all eight options camouflage?
No. Six are camouflage patterns — ACU, A-TACS, CP, DD, Durban and Sand. Black and Kahki are solid colours. Kahki is a pale stone rather than the green khaki some people expect, so go by the swatch photograph, not the name.
What are CP, DD and Durban meant to be?
They are the supplier's own pattern codes. From the photographs: CP is a green and brown multi-tone blotch, DD is a tan and brown digital pixel, and Durban is a green, black and rust blotch. Sand is a three-colour desert print and ACU is a grey-green digital pixel. Pick on the picture.
What is it actually made of?
Not specified by supplier. The photographs show a ripstop grid in the weave, which is what we can honestly tell you. The fibre content is not stated on the listing and there is no label shot to read, so we have left it blank rather than guessing.
Can I wear it on site?
As a sun cap in an area where head protection is not required, yes. It is not a hard hat and it is not hi-vis, so it does not satisfy any site rule that calls for either.
How long does delivery take?
Allow 10–14 days from the day you order, and up to three weeks to be safe. Delivery is free to Australia and New Zealand. Regional and remote addresses run longer again.
