The cheap shell tore on the first branch.

Plastic rain jackets do one job badly. They tear on scrub, they hold sweat against you, and they are useless the moment you actually have to work in them. A field jacket is the other approach — heavy enough to take a beating, cut so you can move, with pockets you can reach wearing gloves.

This is the M65 pattern in a rip-stop cotton blend with stretch through it. Detachable hood, turn-down collar underneath, zip front and conventional cuffs. Black, brown or CP camo, sizes S to XXL.

What It Does

Blocks wind, sheds a shower and survives scrub. The Lycra and spandex through the cotton is what stops it fighting you when you reach or lift — the difference between this and a stiff canvas jacket. Hood on when the weather turns, hood off and the collar turns down for anything else.

Key Features
  • Rip-stop weave: a snag stays a snag rather than running away into a tear.
  • Stretch through the cotton: Lycra and spandex in the blend, so it moves with you.
  • Detachable hood: comes off completely, leaving the classic turn-down collar.
  • Zip front, adjustable cuffs: hook-and-loop tab at each wrist and a drawcord through the waist.
  • Three finishes: black, brown or CP camo.
  • Unisex cut, S to XXL: sized as an outer layer.
What It Will Not Do

It is not waterproof, and the old listing was wrong to say so. It called this an "Army Waterproof Windbreaker" and promised you would "stay dry and warm no matter what the weather throws at you". It is a treated cotton blend — no membrane, no taped seams, and no hydrostatic head rating from the supplier. It will handle a shower. Sustained rain will get through, and wet cotton stays wet and gets heavy.

  • No waterproof rating is published: not specified by supplier. Nothing to point at.
  • Seams are not taped: water tracks through stitching regardless of what the fabric does.
  • Three colours, not four: the old copy listed khaki, black, CP army green and a "black snake series". What you can actually order is black, brown and CP. Go by the menu.
  • Fabric percentages are not published: cotton with Lycra and spandex, no split given. We are not going to invent one.
  • It is civilian clothing: M65 is a jacket pattern, and that is the whole of the claim. No military or law-enforcement approval.
  • Not insulated on its own: it is a shell. No lining weight is published, so layer under it in real cold.

Q & A

Is it waterproof?
No. Water-resistant — fine in a shower, not in sustained rain. The old copy said waterproof and it should not have.

What colours are there?
Black, brown and CP camo on this listing. Older copy named four including a "black snake" version that is not orderable. If you are after army green, coyote, multicam or Kryptek, our other M65 carries those and runs up to XXXL.

What size should I take?
Bigger than you think. There is a full measurement chart in the Specs tab. These are international sizes and they run small here - XXL measures 128 cm (1280 mm) round the chest, and Australian buyers have found that tight once a jumper goes underneath. Measure a jacket you already own and match it to the chart.

Is it warm enough for winter?
As a shell over layers, yes. On its own in real cold, no — there is no published insulation.

Does it come with a liner?
No. It is lined with an open mesh for breathability, not with wadding or fleece, and no zip-in liner is sold with it or offered separately. Layer underneath instead.

Does the hood come off?
Yes, and the turn-down collar underneath is the classic M65 look.
