The Glovebox Kit is a Box of Plasters
Contains a Blade — Adults Only. Knife sales to under-18s are restricted by law in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, WA and SA, and to under-16s in the ACT, so we sell this kit to adults only. IT IS UNLAWFUL TO SELL KNIVES TO PERSONS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 YEARS. PERSONS MAY BE REQUIRED TO PRODUCE EVIDENCE OF AGE WHEN MAKING A PURCHASE.
Most car and camp kits are a handful of plasters, one bandage and a pair of scissors that won't cut tape. Fine for a blister. Then someone opens up a leg on a star picket three hours from town, there is one bandage in the box, and help is a phone call away — if you have got signal.
This is a bigger kit in a MOLLE bag about the size of a thick paperback: 210 x 150 x 100 mm on the seller's picture. Alongside the everyday plasters and dressings it carries a tourniquet, a vacuum-packed pressure bandage, a roll splint, a triangular bandage, a foil blanket and trauma scissors, and the bag straps to a pack, a belt or a seat headrest so it is where you can grab it.
What it can't do is make anyone a first aider. A tourniquet and a splint are only as useful as the training of the person holding them. If you carry this, do a first aid course, and if it's serious, call 000.
Where it Earns its Place
- Behind the Seat: strapped to the headrest in the 4WD or the ute, not buried under the recovery gear in the back.
- On the Block: lives on the quad or in the shed, not in a cupboard back at the house when the job is a long walk away.
- The Drive in & Out: your own kit in the ute for the run to a remote site, on top of whatever the site supplies.
- On the Track: the MOLLE straps put it on a hiking or hunting pack where the whole party can see the white cross patch.
- In the Van or at Camp: one bag with the lot in it, instead of three half-kits in three different drawers.
Key Features
- Clips on Where you can Reach it: MOLLE straps with press studs on the back, a hook-and-loop back panel, two D-rings and a carry handle. The seller also shows it strapped to a car headrest.
- Opens Out Flat: the bag unzips most of the way round and folds open, with elastic loops on one side and a zipped mesh pocket on the other, so you can see what you have got.
- White Cross Patch: a red patch with a white cross, on a hook-and-loop panel on the front, so anyone else in the party can find the kit without being told where it is.
- Tourniquet: a windlass-style tourniquet with a time label, in the seller's colour pictures. Unbranded, and no test standard is shown for it — read the Limits tab before you count on it.
- Pressure Bandage & Roll Splint: a vacuum-packed emergency bandage with a plastic clip, and a foam-covered roll splint (110 x 900 mm on the seller's splint picture) that bends to shape.
- Bandages: two conforming bandages and two elastic bandages with clips (50 mm and 75 mm wide, 4.5 m long), a self-adhesive bandage roll and a triangular bandage.
- Dressings, Pads & Plasters: adhesive wound dressings in two sizes, wound pads, a bag of 100 gauze squares, and several shapes of plaster, including closure strips and a clear film dressing.
- Foil Blanket: 1.3 x 2.1 m opened out, and it packs down to pocket size.
- Scissors, Tweezers & Card Tool: bent, blunt-tipped trauma scissors for cutting clothing and tape, a pair of tweezers, and a credit-card-sized multi-tool.
- The Small Stuff: a blue whistle on a key ring, a marker pen, a pair of gloves, safety pins, cotton buds and two rolls of tape.
Limits
The seller's "379 pieces" is their count, not ours. We counted the seller's colour pictures and found about two dozen kinds of item, listed in the Specs tab. Quantities are printed on only a few packets (the gauze squares say 100), so we can't add it up to 379 and we are not going to pretend we can. Open it when it lands and check it against the list.
- Not a Substitute for Training: a tourniquet, a pressure bandage and a splint are only as useful as the training of whoever picks them up. Do a first aid course, and if it's serious, call 000.
- No Standard, Test or Certificate: nothing in this kit is sold to a test standard or with a certificate we can show you. The seller calls the tourniquet "CAT-compatible". It carries no brand, so it is not a genuine C-A-T.
- Which Tourniquet Turns Up: the seller's colour pictures show a windlass-style tourniquet with a time label; one of their item charts shows a flat buckle strap labelled "tourniquet" instead. They are not the same thing. Check which one you have when it lands.
- Not for a Snakebite: Australian first aid for a snakebite is a pressure immobilisation bandage and a call to 000, not a tourniquet. Learn it on a course.
- No Medicines or Antiseptic: none in the seller's pictures — no painkillers, no antiseptic wipes or cream. Add your own.
- The Gauze Squares are Non-Sterile: the bag of 100 is printed "non-sterile". The wound pads and dressings come in their own sealed packets.
- Not a Workplace First Aid Kit: no Australian workplace first aid code or standard is claimed. If your site or business needs a compliant kit, buy one that says so.
- The Seller's Photos Vary: packaging and the style of card tool change between shots, and some of them show an earlier packing — three crepe bandages instead of two, a small blue-capped tube and a different blanket packet. The list in the Specs tab is from the seller's colour pictures, the ones that match what we order.
- Water-Resistant is the Seller's Word: no rating is published and we have not tested it. If the kit lives somewhere wet, bag the dressings.
- Check it Before you Rely on it: open it when it arrives, check the use-by dates on the sealed packets, and top it up to suit where you go and who you go with.
- No Weight is Published: not specified by supplier, so we are not going to guess.
Q & A
Why Adults Only?
Because the kit has cutting edges. The card tool in the seller's colour pictures has edges marked "letter opener" and "box opener", and the stainless card in another of their pictures has a sharpened knife edge and a saw edge. Selling knives to under-18s is restricted in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, WA and SA, and to under-16s in the ACT, so we sell this kit to adults only, wherever you are. Please do not order it for anyone under 18.
What Exactly is in it?
The seller does not publish a list, so we counted their colour pictures: a tourniquet, a pressure bandage, a roll splint, a triangular bandage, four roller bandages, a self-adhesive bandage roll, a small blue roll, a foil blanket, a bag of 100 gauze squares, wound pads, adhesive dressings, a dressing labelled "Burn Dressing", assorted plasters, tape, cotton buds, gloves, safety pins, trauma scissors, tweezers, a marker pen, a whistle and a card tool. Sizes and counts are in the Specs tab. Open it and check it when it lands.
Is the Tourniquet a Genuine C-A-T?
No. The seller calls it "CAT-compatible", but it carries no brand and no test standard is shown for it. If a tourniquet is the reason you are buying a kit, get trained, and talk to a first aid supplier about a branded one you can check.
Do All Three Colours Have the Same Kit?
Going by the seller's pictures, yes. Their three colour pictures show the same items laid out the same way; only the bag changes. The orange bag has tan webbing and a tan patch panel; the black and red bags have black webbing.
Will it Fit on my Pack or in the Car?
The seller's picture puts the bag at 210 x 150 x 100 mm — we have not measured one. The MOLLE straps suit most packs and belts, and the seller shows it strapped to a car headrest. It is bigger than most glovebox kits, so check your space before you plan on the glovebox.
