Hiking Boots That Hold the Ankle on Loose Ground.

Low runners are fine on a made path. On a loose fire trail or a crumbly creek bank they are not: your ankle rolls on a rock you never saw, and a sprained ankle three kilometres from the car turns a day walk into a long, slow limp out — or a call for help.

This is a mid-height hiking boot from HIKEUP. It comes up above the ankle with a padded collar, laces from the toe and finishes with hooks at the top, so you can set it firm around the ankle and leave it there.

The upper is leather with a suede finish, broken up with mesh panels to let the heat out, on a rubber lug sole with an EVA insole. There is a rubber bumper over the toe and a pull loop on the heel and the tongue.

Be clear on what it is: a hiking boot for tracks and rough ground. The seller lists it as not waterproof, there is no protective toe cap, and it is not safety footwear. Size it by your foot length in millimetres — the chart is under Specs.

What it Does
  • Holds the Ankle: the upper comes up above the ankle with a padded collar, which is what you want stepping off rocks, roots and creek banks you cannot see the bottom of.
  • Grips Loose Ground: a rubber outsole with deep lugs running in several directions. The seller describes it as giving grip and wear resistance on rough terrain.
  • Lets the Heat Out: mesh panels through the sides and tongue, and the seller lists the boot as breathable, so a long walk in the warm is not a sweat box.
  • Takes the Scuffs at the Toe: a moulded rubber bumper wraps the front of the toe, so kicking rocks and roots wears the rubber, not the suede. It is a scuff guard, not a protective cap.
  • Fit Set Once: lace it to the tension you want, lock the top through the hooks, and it stays put for the day.
Key Features
  • Leather Upper, Suede Finish: listed as leather, with mesh panels through the sides and tongue. The seller also lists polyester among the materials.
  • Rubber Lug Outsole: deep multi-direction lugs with coloured inserts and a yellow HIKEUP badge under the arch.
  • EVA Insole & Polyester Lining: as listed by the seller.
  • Lace-Up with Top Hooks: metal eyelets lower down and open hooks at the top for a quick, firm finish around the ankle.
  • Rubber Toe Bumper & Moulded Heel: rubber over the toe and a moulded piece around the back of the heel.
  • Pull Loops: one on the heel and one on the tongue, to get the boot on without a fight.
  • Medium Width: listed as medium (B, M) width.
  • Four Colours: khaki, grey, green and black.
  • Six Sizes: EU 40 to EU 45, matched to foot length in millimetres.

Limits

What These Boots will Not Do
  • Not Waterproof: the seller lists the boot as not waterproof. One line of its own text calls it "rainproof", but no membrane and no water rating are given, and the mesh panels let water straight in. Wet grass is fine. Creek crossings and a day of steady rain are not.
  • Not a Safety Boot: the seller lists no metal toe cap. The rubber over the toe (the seller's pictures call it "top-protected") is a scuff guard, not a protective cap, and no safety standard is claimed. It will not get you through a site gate that requires safety footwear.
  • No Insulation Listed: the seller's title calls it a winter boot, but no insulation is listed — the lining is polyester and the mesh panels breathe. Do not count on it for snow or freezing conditions.
  • Tight at the Toe on Some Sizes: the seller's own note says the insole should be 5 to 15 mm longer than your foot, yet its chart shows the insole the same length as the foot on four of the six sizes. If your foot measures right on a figure, or you walk in thick socks, go up a size.
  • Order by Millimetres, Not by Number: the UK and US numbers on the chart are the seller's, and the seller itself says to choose by foot length only. Measure your foot and read the chart under Specs.
  • Not a Heavy-Pack or Alpine Boot: the seller lists it at beginner level for hiking. No stiff shank, crampon fitting or load rating is listed.
  • No Weight Given: the seller has not published a boot weight. We are not going to guess one.

Q & A

I Wear a 9 in Australia. Which Size do I Order?
Go by your foot, not the number. Stand with your heel against a wall and measure to the end of your longest toe in millimetres, then find that figure in the Fits Foot Length column under Specs. The chart does print a UK column, and Australian men's sizes generally follow the UK scale, but the seller's own instruction is to choose by foot length only. Between two sizes, go up.

Is There a Protective Cap in the Toe?
No. The seller lists no metal toe cap. The rubber bumper over the toe takes scuffs; it will not protect your toes from a dropped load. If your job needs a safety boot, this is not it.

Are they Waterproof?
No. The seller lists them as not waterproof and the mesh panels let water in. Dew and a shower are fine; standing in water is not.

How High does the Boot Come?
The seller lists it as above the ankle but not to the knee. No shaft height in millimetres has been given, so we will not put a number on it.

I Have Wide Feet. Will they Fit?
The boot is listed as medium width. The seller's advice is to choose one size bigger if your foot is thick or wide.

Do they Come in a Shoe Box?
No. The seller packs them without a box so they clear customs faster.

How Long will they Take to Get Here?
Free Standard Delivery, 5 to 10 working days from the day you order. Allow 1–2 days for fulfilment. Regional and remote addresses can take longer.

Size Chart — Measure your Foot, Then Read Across

Heel against a wall, measure to the end of your longest toe. Match that number to the Fits Foot Length column — that is the figure printed on the tongue label of each boot. The label size is the European number.

Label Size (EU) Fits Foot Length Insole Length UK (Seller) US (Seller)
40 260 mm (26 cm) 260 mm (26 cm) 6 7
41 265 mm (26.5 cm) 265 mm (26.5 cm) 7 8
42 270 mm (27 cm) 275 mm (27.5 cm) 7.5 8.5
43 280 mm (28 cm) 280 mm (28 cm) 8.5 9.5
44 285 mm (28.5 cm) 290 mm (29 cm) 9 10
45 295 mm (29.5 cm) 295 mm (29.5 cm) 10 11

All figures are from the seller's own size chart. The seller's note says the Fits Foot Length column (the tongue label) is the foot the boot is made for, and the Insole Length column is the inside of the boot. It also says the insole should be 5 to 15 mm (0.5 to 1.5 cm) longer than your foot — on sizes 40, 41, 43 and 45 the chart shows no difference, so if you are right on the figure or wear thick socks, go up a size. Do not measure an old sole to work out your size — measure your foot.
