Luminous Camo Fishing Baseball Cap

Sun off your face, glare off the water.

On the water the sun gets you twice. Once straight down, and again bouncing back up off the surface. You squint through it for a few hours, stop reading the water properly, and by the time you pack up you have a burnt face and not much to show for the afternoon.

This is a plain fishing and hunting cap that deals with the first part of that. A pre-curved 70 mm peak sits out over your eyes, the crown is 120 mm deep so it sits down on your head rather than perching on top of it, and the shell is light polyester rather than heavy canvas. The reed and cattail camo is there for sitting still in the scrub, not for looking tactical in the carpark.

The fish skeleton across the front panel is embroidered in glow-in-the-dark thread. It reads white in daylight and glows green once the light goes, which makes the cap easy to put a hand on in a dark camp. That glow is decoration, not a safety marker — the Limits tab is blunt about what it will and will not do.

• Finding it in the dark: charge the embroidery in daylight and the fish glows green on the tailgate, in the tent or in the bottom of the boat.
• Rough trip back in: the hook-and-loop strap pulls in tight, so the cap stays put when you are punching across chop or sitting on the tray.
• Sweaty afternoons: light polyester and stitched eyelets through the crown, rather than the heavy canvas lid that has your head cooking by lunchtime.

Limits

Two ideas on this page pull in opposite directions, so here is the plain version. The camo is real camo and the glow is real glow, but the glow is a decorative embroidered fish on the front panel, about the size of your palm. Nothing on this cap is certified for anything.

• Not certified hi-vis: no part of this cap is tested or marked to AS/NZS 1906.4 or AS/NZS 4602.1, and no standard is printed on it or its packaging. Do not wear it as roadside or site PPE. If your job calls for certified high-visibility headwear, this is not it.
• Glow is not reflective: luminous thread stores light and gives it back slowly. It is not retroreflective tape, so headlights or a torch will not light it up the way they light a hi-vis vest.
• The glow needs charging: it wants a decent spell in daylight or under a bright light first, and it dims as the night goes on. The supplier publishes no glow duration and we are not going to guess one.
• No UPF number: the peak shades your face the way a 70 mm peak does. No UPF rating is printed on the cap or the packaging, so we do not publish one.
• Not a boating aid: it will not make you easier to spot from another boat, in daylight or after dark. That job belongs to a lifejacket, a light and a strobe.
• It is polyester: not cotton, whatever other listings for this cap say. If you specifically want a cotton cap, this one is not it.
• One size range only: 56 to 60 cm (560 to 600 mm) with the strap taken up, and the supplier notes its own measurements carry a 10 to 30 mm tolerance. Outside that range it will not sit right.
• One odd photo: one frame in the gallery shows a mesh-backed version of this cap. Every other photo, including the supplier's spec panel, shows a solid fabric back. That mesh version is unconfirmed, so plan on the solid one.

Q & A

Does the whole cap glow in the dark?

No. Only the embroidered fish skeleton on the front panel glows. The camo fabric does not, and neither does the peak or the strap.

How long does the glow last?

The supplier does not state a figure, so there is no number on this page. Luminous thread is at its brightest just after it has been charged and fades from there. Treat it as a way to find your cap in the dark, not as a light.

Can I wear it for work on a road or a site?

No. It carries no high-visibility certification and no standard is printed on it. Site and roadside work needs headwear certified to the relevant Australian standard, and this cap is not.

Will it fit a big head?

The supplier states 56 to 60 cm (560 to 600 mm), adjusted with the rear hook-and-loop strap, and notes a 10 to 30 mm tolerance on its own measurements. Measure around your head just above the ears and compare.

Is it cotton?

No. The supplier's spec panel states polyester, and that is what the specifications below say. Several listings for this cap elsewhere call it breathable cotton, and that is wrong.

What is the difference between Camo A and Camo B?

The supplier names them only Camo A and Camo B. Both are reed and cattail patterns; the difference is the balance of brown against green. The gallery shows both.
