A GPS Watch That does Not Wear Like a Brick.

Most GPS watches built for the outdoors are thick, heavy and covered in rubber bumpers. They catch on a jumper sleeve, they look out of place at dinner, and half of them want charging every second night. So the watch ends up in a drawer, and the phone goes back to doing the tracking from a back pocket.

The HAYLOU Watch 4S is the plainer option. It is a round watch on a 22 mm silicone strap, about 62 g with the strap on and 13.2 mm thick, with no bumper and no oversized bezel. Inside is a satellite receiver the maker lists for five systems (GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS), so a walk or a run gets recorded from the watch itself. The maker quotes up to 10 days between charges in everyday use and 26 hours with GPS running.

It suits anyone who wants a GPS watch that looks like an ordinary watch. One thing straight up: the case is 47.3 mm across, which is a full-size watch, not a small one. The maker's own photos show the silver one on a slim wrist and it does not look out of place, but if your wrist is narrow, check the numbers under Limits before you order. It is also rated 1 ATM, which is rain, sweat and hand washing. It is not a swimming watch.

What it Does
  • Records your Route: built-in satellite positioning listed for GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS; the track shows in the Haylou Fun phone app afterwards.
  • Calls on your Wrist: Bluetooth calling lets you answer or make a call through the watch while the phone stays in your bag or the car.
  • Alerts you can Read: calls, texts and app messages pushed across from the paired phone onto a 1.43 in (36 mm) AMOLED screen at 466 x 466.
  • Battery That Goes the Distance: 400 mAh, quoted by the maker at up to 10 days in everyday use, 18 days in basic mode and 26 hours in GPS sport mode.
  • Activity Tracking: steps, calories, workout records and more than 120 sport modes, with sync to Strava through the app.
  • Wellness Readings: heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep and stress as reference readings for fitness, not medical readings.
  • Cycle Tracking: a menstrual cycle log on the watch and in the app, alongside sedentary, hydration and breathing-exercise reminders.
  • SOS Call: designed to call a contact you set up in the app, through your paired phone. It needs the phone and a Bluetooth connection to work.
  • Everyday Tools: alarm, timer, stopwatch, calendar, weather, music control, find-my-phone, flashlight and a remote camera shutter.
Key Features
  • Slim Profile: 13.2 mm thick and about 62 g with the strap, as printed by the maker.
  • Case Size: 47.3 mm across the case and 270 mm end to end with the strap fitted.
  • Two Colours: Silver (a silver case on a light-coloured strap) or Black (black case, black strap).
  • Spare Strap in the Box: a second 22 mm strap comes with the watch, plus a screen protector.
  • Rotating Crown: a crown for scrolling menus and a separate side button for quick functions.
  • AMOLED Screen: 1.43 in (36 mm) round touch screen behind 2.5D curved glass, with a maker-quoted peak brightness of 1000 nit.
  • Magnetic Charger: a two-pin magnetic charging lead clips onto the back, so there is no open port on the case.
  • Bluetooth 5.3: pairs with Android 9.0 or later and iOS 13.4 or later through the Haylou Fun app.
  • Delivery: Free Standard Delivery, 5 to 10 working days from the day you order. Allow 1–2 days for fulfilment. Regional and remote addresses can take longer.

Limits

It is Not a Small Watch.

The maker's drawing puts the case at 47.3 mm across and 13.2 mm thick, and the watch weighs about 62 g with the strap. There is no bumper or chunky bezel adding bulk, but the face is still full size. The strap is 22 mm wide and the whole watch measures 270 mm end to end; the maker does not print a wrist size range, so measure your wrist before you order. The maker also notes its measurements are taken by hand and can be 3 to 5 mm out.

It is Not a Swimming Watch.

The rating is 1 ATM, and the maker's own picture shows exactly what that covers: rain, sweat and washing your hands. Do not swim in it, do not shower in it, do not wear it in the spa and do not take it anywhere near diving.

The SOS Call Needs your Phone.

The SOS feature calls a contact through your paired phone, and the maker's own note says it needs the app set up and a Bluetooth connection. There is no SIM card, no satellite messaging and no direct line to emergency services. If the phone is flat, out of range or out of coverage, the SOS call goes nowhere. For remote country, carry a personal locator beacon as well.

It will Not Navigate you Home.

It records where you went. No offline maps, breadcrumb back-tracking or route-following is listed among its functions, so it is not a replacement for a map, a compass or a dedicated GPS unit.

Health Readings are for Reference Only.

Heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep and stress come from an optical sensor on your wrist and are fitness reference figures, not medical readings. The maker says the same: the watch is not a medical device, and the data is not to be used as a basis for diagnosis. All-day monitoring has to be switched on in the app. Cycle tracking is a log and a calendar, not a method of contraception or a fertility test.

Calls and Alerts Depend on the Phone.

Calls, messages, weather and the SOS call all come through the paired phone over Bluetooth. The maker notes the app has to stay running in the background for alerts to arrive.

Battery Figures are the Maker's.

The 10-day, 18-day and 26-hour figures come from the maker's own lab test. The 18-day figure is with Bluetooth and heart rate switched off, so the 10-day everyday figure is the more honest guide if you want alerts. Cold weather shortens battery life, and the maker says to use only its own charging lead.

Q & A

Does it Need my Phone to Record a Walk?

No. The satellite receiver is in the watch, listed for five systems, so it logs the walk with the phone left behind. You need the Haylou Fun app on your phone to see the route map and your history afterwards.

Will it Suit a Smaller Wrist?

Possibly, but check first. The case is 47.3 mm across and 13.2 mm thick, it weighs about 62 g with the strap, and the strap is 22 mm wide. The maker does not print a wrist size range. Measure your wrist and hold a ruler at 47 mm across it to see how the face will sit.

Can I Swim or Shower with it?

No. It is rated 1 ATM, which is rain, sweat and hand washing. Take it off before the shower, the pool or the beach.

Who does the SOS Call Reach?

A contact you set up in the Haylou Fun app, called through your paired phone. It does not reach emergency services on its own and does nothing without the phone connected.

Which Phones does it Work with?

Android 9.0 or later and iOS 13.4 or later, over Bluetooth 5.3, using the Haylou Fun app. Alerts need the app left running in the background with permission to read notifications.

How Long does the Battery Last?

The maker quotes up to 10 days in everyday use (heart rate and sleep tracking on, around 100 notifications a day), 18 days in basic mode (Bluetooth and heart rate off) and 26 hours with GPS running. Your figure depends on how you use it.

What Comes in the Box?

The watch with its strap fitted, a second replacement strap, a screen protector, a magnetic charging lead and a quick start guide.
