Full gloves come off the moment you need to thread a split pin, start a nut by hand or pick a washer out of a tray. They go in your back pocket, and the next knock you take across the back of the hand you take on bare skin.

That is the failure worth planning for. Not the glove tearing — the glove not being on your hand when something swings past.

These are cut back to the base knuckle on all four fingers, so your fingertips stay on the job and the gloves stay on your hands. The back of the hand sits behind a moulded shell, the wrist pulls in on a hook-and-loop strap, and a small metal D-ring lets you hang them off a belt loop between tasks.

What they are not is rated. No cut level, no impact standard, and nothing marked on the shell or the cuff. Read the Limits tab and decide from there.

What It Does

• Leaves your fingers out: the four finger stalls stop just past the base knuckle, so you keep fingernail and fingertip feel for small fasteners, zip ties, knots and buckles.
• Covers the back of the hand: one moulded shell spans the main knuckle line, with four separate moulded caps sitting one to a finger below it.
• Stays where you put it: a wide hook-and-loop strap over woven webbing pulls the cuff in at the wrist, so the glove is not creeping around as you work.
• Lets some heat out: the back panel is a stretch fabric and the palm and finger panels are perforated, which is the point of a half finger glove in a hot workshop or a hot ute.
• Hangs off a belt loop: a small metal D-ring at the cuff edge means they can live on you between tasks instead of on the bench.
• Comes in three sizes: M, L and XL against a supplier size chart measured on hand circumference, published in full in the Specs tab.

Key Features

• Moulded knuckle shell: a rigid, segmented one-piece shell stitched across the back of the hand. The supplier's own artwork panel labels it "PC material", meaning polycarbonate. No certificate was sighted and nothing is stamped on the shell itself.
• Four separate finger caps: index, middle, ring and little finger each carry their own small moulded cap. The thumb has no cap.
• Where the cut sits: the four fingers are cut just past the base knuckle, leaving roughly the top two thirds of each finger bare. The thumb is cut much longer — only the thumb tip, from about the last joint, is exposed.
• Perforated palm: synthetic leather with a fine perforated texture, plus a raised reinforcement patch at the base of the thumb and along the palm heel.
• Stretch back panel: the supplier's artwork states the back-of-hand fabric is spandex, chosen so the glove pulls on without a finger-by-finger fight.
• Adjustable cuff: a hook-and-loop wrist strap with a pointed pull tab, threaded through a slot so it folds back on itself.
• Three colourways: black, brown (a tan or khaki shade in the supplier photographs) and green.
• Published size chart: the supplier's chart is printed on one of the product images and is reproduced in the Specs tab in millimetres as well as centimetres.

Limits

These are working gloves, not certified protective equipment. Be clear on the difference before you buy.

• No cut level: there is no EN 388 marking and no ANSI/ISEA 105 cut level (A1 to A9) anywhere on this glove or in anything the supplier has published. Treat it as offering no cut resistance at all.
• No impact rating: a hard knuckle shell is not the same thing as a tested one. There is no ANSI/ISEA 138 impact level and no EN 388 impact mark. We checked the shell and the cuff at high magnification in every supplier photograph and both are completely blank — no moulded standard, no printed one, no maker's mark.
• The supplier's wording, not ours: the supplier's own marketing artwork calls the guard "comprehensive protection". Nothing supports that, so we are not repeating it. The only thing we take from that panel is the material name.
• Your fingertips are bare: that is the whole design, and it is also the whole risk. Pinch points, hot metal, blades, chemicals, abrasive rope — the glove does nothing for the part of your hand most likely to find them.
• Not electrical work gear: nothing here is tested or marked for live electrical work, and it must not be used for it.
• Not waterproof: no water rating is stated or marked. The perforated panels are there to let heat out, and they will let water in just as happily.
• Sized on an Asian chart: the supplier's own size panel is headed "Asian size". If you are between two sizes, take the larger one. The supplier also states its measurements are taken by hand and can be out by up to 30 mm.
• Nothing is padded for vibration: the palm has a reinforcement patch, not a gel or foam anti-vibration pad. Do not choose these for long stints on a rattle gun or a jackhammer.
• Sold as a pair: one left and one right, as shown in the photographs.

Q & A

Exactly which fingers are cut off, and how short?

All five digits are open, but not to the same length. The index, middle, ring and little fingers are cut just past the base knuckle, so roughly the top two thirds of each finger is bare. The thumb is different: it stays covered nearly to the end and only the tip, from about the last joint, comes out. That combination is deliberate — you keep thumb-and-finger pinch grip while the thumb pad, which does most of the rubbing, stays covered.

Is the knuckle guard actually hard, or is it foam under fabric?

Hard. It is an exposed, rigid moulded shell sitting proud of the glove, segmented into raised blocks, and it is visible as a separate black component in every photograph. It is not foam and it is not padding under a fabric cover. That is the main thing separating this glove from the two other half finger gloves we sell — one of those uses a soft pad under the fabric, the other a single moulded rubber overlay.

What size do I take if I normally wear a large?

Measure rather than guess, because the chart is an Asian one and runs small against Australian and New Zealand glove sizing. Put a tape around your palm at the knuckles with the thumb left out, and read it against the chart in the Specs tab. If you land on a boundary, go up. There are no exchanges, so the measurement is worth the two minutes.

Can I use these where cut resistant gloves are required?

No. There is no cut level marked or stated, and half your fingers are outside the glove anyway. If your site specifies a cut level, you need a glove that carries that level printed on it — that is the whole point of the marking. These are for jobs where dexterity matters and knocks are the main nuisance.

Will they work a phone or a radio?

Yes, because your fingertips are not covered at all. There is no touchscreen coating involved and none is needed — you are touching the screen with bare skin.
