It records nothing. Its job is to change a thief's mind.
Covering every shed, carport and side gate with real cameras costs real money. Meanwhile most theft off a property is not a professional job — it is someone walking past, seeing nobody is watching, and trying their luck.
This is a dummy camera, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. There is no lens, no sensor and no recording — it captures nothing, ever. What it does is look like the dome cameras fitted to shops and warehouses, with a blinking red LED, so an opportunist glancing up has a reason to keep walking.
Use it as the cheap outer layer of your security, not the whole plan. Real cameras on the entries, decent locks and lighting — then a few of these to widen the coverage a thief thinks he is up against.
What It Does
- Looks the part: moulded dome the same profile as commercial CCTV units, with a smoked cover and a dummy lens behind it.
- Blinks like it is live: a red LED runs off two AA batteries to suggest an active unit.
- No wiring at all: no cables, no network, no sparky — two screws and it is up.
- Mounts where cameras go: ceiling, eave, verandah beam or wall, using the included screws and wall plugs.
Key Features
- Realistic dome profile: 115 mm base and 72 mm high — the same footprint as a genuine dome camera.
- Blinking red LED: powered by 2 x AA batteries (not included) — no wiring, no charging.
- ABS housing: hard plastic body with a smoked dome, light enough for any ceiling or eave.
- Screws and plugs included: fixes to a ceiling, eave or wall in minutes with basic tools.
- No power switch: runs continuously once the batteries are fitted, as stated by the supplier.
- Works beside a real system: put real cameras on the entry points and dummies on the rest to stretch the budget.
Limits
It records nothing. Not low-resolution footage, not stills — nothing. There is no lens, no sensor and no storage inside the dome. If someone does break in, this unit gives you and the police nothing to work with. Evidence needs a real camera.
It will not fool everyone. Experienced thieves know that a red LED blinking around the clock is itself a tell — most genuine security cameras do not blink. Mount it high and out of easy reach, where nobody gets a close look.
We will not quote you a break-in statistic. Figures like "reduces theft by half" float around for products like this with no source behind them, so you will not find one here.
No weather sealing is stated by the supplier. Under an eave, verandah or carport is sensible; fully exposed to driving rain, expect water to find its way into the housing eventually.
The LED runs day and night with no off switch, so the batteries drain whether anyone is looking at it or not.
Q & A
Does it actually record anything?
No. Nothing at all. There is no camera inside — no lens, no sensor, no memory card. It is a deterrent shell with a blinking light. If you need footage for the police or an insurer, you need a real camera, and this is not one.
Will it fool a professional thief?
Probably not up close. A red LED blinking around the clock is a known giveaway — real cameras rarely blink. From across a yard or up on an eave it reads as CCTV, and that is the job it can do. It is aimed at the opportunist, not the professional.
How long do the batteries last?
The supplier states no figure, and there is no off switch — the LED runs continuously once the two AA batteries go in. Make checking it part of a routine, the same way you check smoke alarm batteries.
Can I mount it outside?
Under cover, yes — an eave, verandah or carport ceiling is where these usually go, and height also keeps it away from close inspection. No weather sealing is stated by the supplier, so keep it out of direct rain.
Are batteries included?
No. It takes two AA batteries, not included. It still looks like a camera without them — you just lose the blinking LED.
Does it make sense alongside a real camera system?
That is the classic setup: real cameras covering the entries and anything valuable, a few dummies spreading the apparent coverage. Cheaper than doing the whole place in 4K, and the real units carry the evidence load.
