Black is the worst thing to wear at night.

It feels like the obvious choice, and it is exactly wrong. A block of solid black does not disappear into the dark — it turns you into a clean silhouette, and a silhouette is the easiest thing in the world for an animal to pick. Same problem in daylight with cheap camo: a printed picture of leaves stops looking like leaves the moment you move.

The patterns worth wearing do a different job. Instead of trying to copy the scenery behind you, they break up the shape of your head and shoulders so there is no solid outline for an eye to lock onto. That is why a good pattern still works when you move, and when the country around you is not the country it was printed from.

This cap comes in eleven patterns — Highland, Autumn Forest, MarshReed, Snow Camo, Moss Wood, Ocean Earth, Grunge, Veilflage, Night Digital, Woodland and Open Terrain — so you can match it to where you actually spend your time rather than settling for whatever green was on the shelf. There is a genuine snow pattern in there, and a marsh reed one, which most ranges do not bother with.

The rest of it is just a properly made cap: six panels, a structured front that keeps its shape instead of going soft after a season, a sweatband that actually stops sweat running into your eyes, and embroidered eyelets so your head is not cooking on a still day.

What It Does
  • Matches the country you hunt: eleven patterns covering snow, marsh reed, open terrain, woodland, tree bark and low light — not one all-purpose green.
  • Fits nearly everyone: one size, with a hook-and-loop back strap. The head circumference adjusts from 530 mm to 610 mm.
  • Keeps sweat out of your eyes: built-in soft sweatband, which is the difference between a cap you wear all day and one that lives in the ute.
  • Vents: embroidered eyelets rather than mesh panels, so it breathes without looking like gym gear.
  • Holds its shape: structured front panels and a slightly higher crown, so it does not collapse into a shapeless lid.
Key Features
  • Six-panel build: you can see the construction and the taped seams in the underside photograph — nothing hidden.
  • 100% polyester: dries fast, does not hold water like a cotton cap does.
  • 70 mm peak: long enough to shade your eyes, short enough not to foul a rifle scope or a cast.
  • Embroidered logo: the orange Bassdash fishbone is stitched, not printed, so it does not crack or peel.

Limits

It is a cap, not sun protection gear. The supplier publishes no UPF or UV rating for this fabric and we are not going to invent one. A peak shades your eyes and some of your face. It does nothing for your ears, your neck or the back of your head. In an Australian summer wear a broad-brim or add a neck flap.

Camouflage is not a substitute for fieldcraft. The pattern breaks up your outline. It does not cover movement, noise or scent, and no cap ever has.

We have not tested these patterns against each other, and no independent test data was supplied. What we can tell you is what each one looks like and the country it is clearly aimed at — the photographs are honest and unretouched. Anything beyond that would be us guessing.

Pattern names are the supplier's. They describe the look, not a measured performance standard, and there is no accepted industry rating for camouflage effectiveness to compare them against.

Not a safety product. No impact, ballistic or flame rating is claimed for it, because none applies.

Q & A

Which pattern should I pick?

Match it to where you actually are, not to what looks best on a screen. Moss Wood and Autumn Forest suit timbered country with bark and leaf litter. Highland and Woodland are the green-country patterns. Ocean Earth is the blue-green one — the pick if you are on the water or working the edge of it. MarshReed is built for reeds and grass, so it is the one to wear sitting in a wetland. Open Terrain suits dry, sparse ground. Night Digital is the low-light option and a far better answer than plain black. Snow Camo is exactly what it says and no use to most Australians unless you are in an alpine winter.

Will it fit a big head?

The strap adjusts from 530 mm to 610 mm, taken from the supplier's own size drawing. Run a tape around your head just above the ears. If you are over 610 mm this will be tight, and we would rather tell you that now than take the order.

Can I wear it under ear muffs?

Yes, but the structured crown sits higher than a soft cap, so check your muff seal. Anything that breaks the seal costs you protection — that matters more than the cap does.

How do I wash it?

The supplier does not specify a wash method. On a structured polyester cap the safe answer is cold water by hand and air dry — a machine and a hot dryer are what turn a structured front into a wavy one.

How long does delivery take?

10–14 days from the day you order — not from dispatch. Allow up to 3 weeks, and longer again for regional and remote addresses. Shipping is free to Australia and New Zealand.
