Sun in your eyes and your cap's back in the ute.

Low sun across a paddock or off the water and you squint the whole way through the job. You end up with a headache by smoko and you miss things you would normally pick up. The cap that would have fixed it is sitting on the passenger seat, because the last one went shapeless after two washes and you stopped bothering to grab it.

This is a plain cotton cap with a stitched, pre-curved brim and an adjustable strap at the back. The band opens from 560 mm to 600 mm, so it sits on most adult heads without a size to pick. There are 37 designs in the range — camouflage, army green, black and navy, with embroidered flag and service-style badges on the front.

It is a cap, and it is honest about being one. It shades your eyes and keeps your hair out of the way. It is not issued kit, it carries no defence approval, and there is no standard printed anywhere on it. What you are buying is cotton, stitching and a badge you like the look of.

What It Does
  • Gets the glare off: a pre-curved brim puts your eyes in shade so you are not squinting into low sun all afternoon.
  • Fits without sizing: the strap runs 560–600 mm, so one cap covers most adult heads and there is no size chart to get wrong.
  • Keeps hair and sweat back: a stitched fabric sweatband and metal eyelet vents through the crown.
  • Stays out of the way: a soft cotton crown that folds into a crib bag or a glovebox and comes back out wearable.
  • Lets you pick the look: 37 designs, from quiet flag badges through to loud embroidered patches, so you are not stuck advertising someone else's brand.
Key Features
  • Cotton construction: cotton shell and brim, with a washed finish on several of the designs.
  • Six-panel crown: six stitched panels with metal eyelet vents, visible on the interior photograph in the gallery.
  • Adjustable strap: a 560–600 mm range, with a metal slider buckle on the structured caps and a plastic slider on the mesh-back ones.
  • Three cap shapes: curved-brim baseball, mesh-back trucker and flat-top cadet, depending on which design you choose.
  • Raised embroidery: badges are stitched into the panel rather than printed or heat-pressed.
  • Contrast brim stitching: several rows of top-stitching across the brim, in a contrasting thread on most designs.
  • Four base colours: camouflage, army green, black and navy across the 37 designs.
  • One size range: the supplier lists it as one size with an adjustable fit, so there are no S/M/L options to choose between.

Limits

Here is what this cap will not do, so nobody is caught out.

  • It is not issued kit: the embroidered badges are decoration. Nothing here is service issue, defence approved, or made to any published specification, and no standard is printed on the cap.
  • It is not head protection: this is a soft cotton cap. It is not a helmet and not a hard hat liner, and no part of it is tested or marked to AS/NZS 1801 or any other head protection standard.
  • It covers your eyes, not your neck: a baseball brim shades your face and eyes. It leaves your ears and the back of your neck out in the open — a broad-brim or a legionnaire style is what covers those.
  • The shape varies by design: the range mixes structured baseball caps, mesh-back truckers and flat-top cadet caps. The photograph on each option is what that option is.
  • Cotton wets out: it will soak through in steady rain and it stays damp. It is not a wet weather hat and no water resistant treatment is claimed for it.
  • Camouflage is a print, not a match: the camo is a generic pattern. It is not matched to Australian or New Zealand bush, and it is not a hunting concealment system.
  • Some figures are not stated: the supplier does not publish the exact cotton blend, the cap weight, the brim length or a care instruction. Those rows are marked accordingly rather than guessed.

Q & A

Will it fit a big head?

The strap opens to 600 mm, so anything up to about a 600 mm head is fine. Past that it will sit high and feel tight. There is no larger size in this range.

How do I know which design I am getting?

The photograph attached to each option is that design. The option names are colour codes rather than design names, so go by the picture and not the label. Six of the 37 options currently have no photograph attached, and those are the ones to be careful with.

Is this genuine military or a service item?

No. It is a commercial cotton cap with embroidered badges on it. It is not issued, not surplus, and it carries no defence approval or endorsement of any kind.

Will it keep the sun off me?

The brim puts your eyes and face in shade, which is what a cap is for. Your ears and the back of your neck are still exposed, so on a long day outdoors it is not doing the job a broad-brim hat does.

Can I wear it under a hard hat?

It is not made for that. It is a full-crown cap with seams and a buckle at the back, so it sits badly inside a helmet shell and can change how the helmet fits. Use a liner made for the job.

Is the cotton organic?

The supplier states cotton and nothing more specific than that. There is no organic certification behind this cap, so we are not going to put that word on it.
