Bluetooth Tracker Tag for Keys and Luggage, Apple Find My & Android

The keys went on the tray while you loaded the ute, and now they are somewhere between three job sites. Or the camp bag came off the rack and nobody noticed for forty kilometres. Nothing broke. The gear just is not where you are, and the rest of the day goes into looking for it instead of working.

This is a Bluetooth tag, not a satellite tracker, and the difference matters before you buy. It is a 32 mm disc that hangs off a keyring, drops into a pack lid or gets taped inside a toolbox. When your own phone is close, you tap the finder that is already on it and the tag beeps until you walk onto it. When it is out of range, your map holds the last spot a phone reported and the time it was recorded — and any other Apple or Android handset that quietly passes it later refreshes that pin for you.

That last part is the honest catch. In a carpark, a campground or an airport it works well, because phones are everywhere. On a station track with nobody around for two hundred kilometres, nothing updates until somebody walks past it. Buy it for the places people go, not for the back paddock.

What It Does

• Rings on command: tap the finder on your phone and the tag sounds, so hunting through a loaded ute is done by ear instead of by eye.
• Holds a last-seen pin: your map keeps the last position a phone reported, with the time it was recorded beside it.
• Borrows other phones: any passing Apple or Android handset can refresh that pin anonymously, without its owner knowing and without telling you anything about them.
• Uses the app you already have: Apple Find My on iOS, Google Find Hub on Android. The supplier states no separate app, no account and no subscription.
• Rides in a pocket: 32 x 32 x 8 mm and 8 g on its own, so it disappears into a pack lid, a glovebox or a first aid kit.
• Takes a fresh cell: the back cover is moulded OPEN and the supplier lists the battery as replaceable, so a flat tag is a battery swap and not a bin job.

• Standby, not live running: the supplier quotes 8 to 12 months of standby on one panel and "up to one year" on another. Both are standby figures, not continuous tracking.
• Replaceable CR2032 coin cell: the manufacturer states a replaceable CR2032 at 3 V and 210 mAh, and the back of the tag itself is marked with the same 210 mAh and 3 V. Twist the cover off at the OPEN mark and drop a fresh one in.
• No SIM, no data plan: the supplier lists no mobile network hardware, no SIM slot and no service fee. Nothing to activate and nothing to pay monthly.
• One, two or four: sold as a single tag or as a two or four pack, black only in this listing.

Limits

It is not a GPS tracker in the sense most people mean. Nothing in the supplier's material shows a satellite receiver, a mobile radio, a SIM slot or a data plan in this tag. Every position you ever see was measured by somebody's phone, not by the tag. The supplier's own artwork calls it a "Mini Smart GPS Tracker" and the only radio figures stated anywhere are a Bluetooth Low Energy link and a wireless range of 10 m or more, which the manufacturer puts at 3 to 50 m in the open.

It will not follow anything live. Outside your own phone's range you get a last-seen pin with a timestamp on it, and that pin only moves when another handset happens to pass close enough to hear the tag. That could be a minute later or never.

It goes silent where there are no phones. Remote country, an empty paddock, deep bush, a steel shipping container, a mine void or an underground carpark all leave it with nothing to talk to. This is the single biggest reason not to buy one for remote work.

It does not get anything back. It reports where a phone last heard it. Recovery is between you and the police, and anyone who finds a 32 mm disc in a stolen bag can drop it in a bin.

It is not rated for immersion. The supplier prints IP65 on the artwork, and its specification panel claims no more than daily-life water resistance. IP65 covers dust and water jets — rain, a hose, a wet day on site. Do not swim with it, do not put it in the bilge and do not leave it sitting under water. No IP67 or IP68 marking appears anywhere on the supplier's material.

It is not for tracking people or pets. Both the Apple and Google networks are built to warn a person when an unknown tag is travelling with them, so it is no good for following anyone quietly — and fitting a tracker to another person's vehicle or belongings without their consent can be a criminal offence in Australia and New Zealand. No certificate has been sighted. The supplier's artwork carries "Apple MFi Certified" and "Google Certified" wording and the Works With badges for both networks. We have not sighted either certificate and are not going to treat a logo on a marketing panel as one.

Q & A

Is this really a GPS tracker?

No, and we would rather say so on the buy page than in a return email. It is a Bluetooth tag that borrows the Apple and Google finding networks. If you need a position from anywhere on earth with nobody nearby, you need a satellite or mobile-network tracker, which is a different product with a different price and a subscription behind it.

Do I need a SIM card, an app or a monthly fee?

None of the three, on the supplier's own material. It pairs to the finder already built into your phone — Find My on an iPhone, Find Hub on an Android — and the supplier lists no SIM, no mobile data and no service charge.

Will it find my ute if it gets stolen?

It will show you where a phone last heard it, which in a town could be minutes ago and out bush could be never. Treat it as a clue, not a recovery system, and hand anything you find to the police rather than going after it yourself.

Can I move one between an iPhone and an Android?

The supplier states the tag connects to one system at a time, so you would unpair it from one and set it up on the other. If the household runs both, buy the multi-pack and dedicate tags to each phone.

Can it get wet?

Rain, dust and a hose-down are what IP65 covers, and that is the highest rating the supplier prints. Swimming, the bilge of a boat and anything left submerged are outside it. Do not treat it as a dive tag.

How long does the battery last, and what does it take?

The supplier quotes 8 to 12 months of standby on one panel and up to one year on another. It takes a CR2032 coin cell at 3 V and 210 mAh, stated by the manufacturer and marked on the back of the tag. Twist the back cover off at the OPEN mark to change it.
