A branch at head height ends the game early.

Nobody stops an airsoft or paintball day because of the hits they took on the chest. They stop because they walked into a low branch in the scrub, or clipped their head coming out of a doorway, or copped a stray round on the temple and spent the next twenty minutes sitting on a log. The head is the part you cannot just shake off and keep running.

This is a MICH 2000 pattern shell — the full-cut shape that comes down over the ear, with slotted accessory rails on both sides, a bracket on the front for a mount, and hook-and-loop panels for patches and marker tape. It is a knock-and-scrape helmet for skirmish games, paintball and general outdoor sports, and it is one of the harder shapes to find locally without importing it yourself.

Now the honest bit, because it matters more than the sales pitch. MICH 2000 is a shape, not a certification. There is no standard marked on this shell and the supplier publishes no material, no weight and no impact rating. It is a sports helmet. The Limits tab says exactly what that rules out, and we would rather you read it before you buy than after.

What It Does
  • Skirmish in thick scrub: the branches you do not see coming are the ones that get you, and a shell over the top of your head takes that hit instead of your scalp.
  • Paintball at close range: a round on the shell is a noise. A round on the side of your head is the end of your afternoon.
  • Running a torch hands-free: the side rails take a light or a camera mount, so you keep both hands on what you are doing.
  • Team games with a mixed group: four finishes means you can sort sides by colour instead of by armbands that fall off.
  • Somewhere to hang your kit: hook-and-loop panels front, sides and crown hold patches, glint tape or a strip of hi-vis so a marshal can pick you out.
Key Features
  • MICH 2000 pattern: the full-cut shape, with shell coverage carried down over the ear.
  • Slotted side rails: accessory rails on both sides for torches, cameras and clip-on mounts.
  • Front bracket: a moulded mounting bracket on the front face of the shell.
  • Hook-and-loop panels: front, both sides and across the crown.
  • Adjustable chin harness: webbing harness with sliders and a chin cup, adjusted by hand.
  • Padded internal liner: a padded liner is fitted around the rim and crown.
  • Textured finish: a matt, lightly textured shell rather than a gloss one, so it does not flash in sunlight.
  • Four colours: black, green, grey and sandy.

Running a headset or ear muffs? A full-cut shell like this one sits over the ear and will fight them. The high cut tactical helmet is cut away above the ear for exactly that reason — same job, different shape, and it is the right pick if comms matter more to you than coverage.

Limits

This one needs saying plainly, because the name on it sounds official and it is not.

  • Not rated impact protection: there is no standard marked on this shell and none published by the supplier. It is not certified head protection and must not be relied on as such.
  • Not ballistic: the MICH 2000 name refers to a shape that exists in armoured versions. This is not one of them. It stops nothing that is travelling fast.
  • Not for work sites: no certification means no site, no mine, no workshop, no scaffold. It will not pass an induction and it is not rated for falling objects.
  • Not a bike, climbing or riding helmet: nothing here is rated for a fall or an impact at speed. Those jobs need the certified helmet built for them.
  • Shell material unstated: the supplier does not name the plastic, and nothing is moulded into the shell to tell us. We will not print a material we cannot verify.
  • Weight and size unstated: no weight, no dimensions and no head circumference range are published. If those figures decide the purchase for you, this is not the listing to buy from.
  • No water rating: a plastic shell sheds rain off the top, but no water resistance figure is published and we make no claim about one.
  • Ear coverage cuts both ways: the full-cut shape gives more shell around the ear, and that same shape gets in the way of over-ear muffs and comms headsets.
  • Accessories not included: torches, goggles and mounts appear in the photographs to show what the rails take. One helmet ships.

Q & A

Is this the real military MICH helmet?

No. MICH 2000 describes the shell shape. This is a sports and airsoft version of that shape with no armour and no certification, and it should not be confused with an issued combat helmet.

What is it actually made of?

The supplier does not say and nothing is marked on the shell. Rather than guess at a plastic, the specification table says not specified by supplier. If a stated material is what you need, buy a helmet that publishes one.

Will ear muffs fit under it?

Not comfortably. This is a full-cut shell and it comes down over the ear, so over-ear cups end up pushing against the shell edge. A high cut helmet is the shape to look at if you run muffs or a headset.

How does it adjust?

Through the chin harness — webbing with sliders on both sides and a chin cup, all set by hand. There is no rear dial on this pattern, and the supplier does not state a size range.

Can I mount night vision on the front bracket?

There is a mounting bracket on the front of the shell. The supplier does not state which mount standard it takes, so check the fitting on your own unit before you commit to it.

How long will it take to arrive?

Ten to fourteen days from the day you place the order, and allow up to three weeks in a busy patch. Delivery is free to Australia and New Zealand with no minimum spend. Regional and remote addresses take longer again.
