Control at the kerb, not a wrestle.

A dog lunges without warning. A cat on a fence, a bike, another dog on the far footpath — and suddenly the only thing between your dog and the road is a strip of webbing and whatever clip is holding it together. A moulded plastic buckle lets go, the dog is out on the bitumen, and you are the one chasing traffic.

This is a wide padded collar with a control handle sewn straight onto it, paired with a bungee lead. The buckle and the D-ring are zinc alloy rather than moulded plastic, and the collar sits 38 mm wide across the neck so the pressure is spread instead of biting into one line. The handle sits above the collar, so at a kerb, a vet door or a gate you can take hold of the dog itself rather than hauling on the lead from two metres back.

The lead runs 1.03 m relaxed and stretches to 1.4 m, with an elastic section that takes the jolt out of a sudden lunge before it reaches your shoulder. It has two handles — a padded one for normal walking and a short traffic handle down near the clip for when you need the dog beside your leg.

Check the option list before you pick. This page sells the collar on its own, the lead on its own, and the two together as a set. The price moves with it, so a buyer expecting both needs to choose a set.

What It Does
  • Fits a measured neck: three sizes between 36 cm (360 mm) and 60 cm (600 mm), all of them 38 mm wide, adjusted by webbing and a hook-and-loop strap.
  • Gives you a handhold: a webbing control handle sewn to the collar so you can take hold of the dog at close range.
  • Takes the edge off a lunge: the elastic section in the lead absorbs the jolt instead of passing all of it into your arm.
  • Two ways to hold the lead: a padded long handle for walking and a short traffic handle at the clip end for tight spots.
  • Shows up in headlights: three reflective strips stitched into the lead webbing for early starts and after-dark walks.
  • Carries a patch: a hook-and-loop panel on the outside of the collar takes a name or ID patch of your own.
Key Features
  • Nylon outer, cotton lining: webbing outer with a padded cotton inner face against the neck.
  • Zinc alloy quick-release buckle: metal side buckle rather than a moulded plastic clip.
  • Zinc alloy D-ring: D-type traction ring, anti-rust treated, sewn into a doubled webbing tab.
  • 38 mm collar width: the same width across M, L and XL, so the load spreads over more of the neck.
  • Three closure points: hook-and-loop strap, the buckle itself, and a keeper loop over the tail of the webbing.
  • 1.03 m to 1.4 m lead: relaxed length 1.03 m, stretched length 1.4 m, one length across every size.
  • Zinc alloy swivel snap hook: metal hook on the lead, swivelling so the webbing does not wind up.
  • Seven collar colourways: black, blue, camouflage, green, khaki, pink and red; the lead comes in six of those, with no camouflage lead sold on its own.

Limits

This is restraint gear for an animal, so the honest bit matters more than usual.

  • No load rating is published: the supplier states no tensile, breaking or working load figure for the webbing, the stitching, the buckle or the D-ring, and we have not tested one. Nothing on this page tells you what it will hold, and you should not read "zinc alloy" as a number.
  • Not a substitute for training: a collar holds a dog that is already more or less under control. It will not stop a dog that has decided to go, and it is not a fix for pulling, lunging or reactivity. That is training, and there is no hardware answer to it.
  • The handle is for close work: a few seconds of hold at a kerb, a gate or a vet door. It is not a way to restrain a large dog that has made up its mind, and hanging your weight off it puts every kilogram through the stitching and your dog's neck at once.
  • Not a vehicle restraint: no crash rating, no test data, and it is not a car harness. Do not clip it to a seatbelt or use it as a substitute for a proper vehicle restraint. Anything sold for that job on this store is a separate product.
  • No certification of any kind: no standard number is printed on the collar or the lead, and no certificate was sighted. The word tactical here describes the style of the webbing and the buckle — it is not an issue item, it is not service equipment, and it carries no approval from anybody.
  • The bungee is not a brake: the elastic section softens a jolt. It does not stop a lunge, and it lets the dog get further from you before it comes tight.
  • Reflective is not lighting: the strips on the lead throw a driver's headlights back. They do nothing at all without a light source pointed at them, so on an unlit road you still need a light.
  • Not escape-proof: a dog that backs up hard can come out of any collar that is fitted loose. Measure the neck, fit it properly, and check it again after a wash.
  • The cotton lining holds water: no water rating is published for either item. The padded inner face is cotton, so after a creek crossing or a wet walk it stays damp for a while and is better taken off to dry.
  • Size only governs the collar: if you buy the lead on its own, the M, L or XL choice changes nothing — the lead is one length whichever you pick.

Q & A

What actually turns up in the parcel?

It depends on the option you choose. The set options bring the collar and the lead together. The collar-only options bring the collar with its handle and D-ring, no lead. The lead-only options bring the lead with both handles and the snap hook, no collar. Read the option name in full before you add it to the cart.

Which size fits my dog?

Measure the neck with a soft tape where the collar will sit, then pick the range it lands in: M covers 36 to 48 cm (360 to 480 mm), L covers 42 to 54 cm (420 to 540 mm), XL covers 50 to 60 cm (500 to 600 mm). The supplier states its own measurements are taken by hand and can be out by 1 to 2 cm (10 to 20 mm), so if you are sitting right on the edge of a range, size up.

Is the lead longer on the bigger sizes?

No. There is one lead: 1.03 m relaxed, 1.4 m stretched out. The size choice on this page is the collar neck range and nothing else.

Will it hold a dog that pulls hard?

We cannot answer that with a number, because no load rating is published for any part of it. What we can tell you is what it is made of: nylon webbing, a zinc alloy quick-release buckle and a zinc alloy D-ring rather than moulded plastic. If your dog routinely puts its full weight into a lead, a collar is the wrong attachment point anyway and a well-fitted harness spreads that load better.

Is the buckle metal or plastic?

Zinc alloy, quick-release side buckle. The D-ring is zinc alloy as well, with an anti-rust finish. Depending on the colourway the metal comes either bare silver or in a black finish.

Can I put a name patch on it?

Yes. There is a hook-and-loop panel along the outside of the padded section, sized for a standard patch. Nothing is supplied with it, so the patch is yours to source.

How long does delivery take, and what does it cost?

Delivery is 10 to 14 days from the day you order, and you should allow up to three weeks. Regional and remote addresses take longer again. Delivery is free to Australia and New Zealand.
