The litre number is marketing. Here are the millimetres.

Halfway through a swing your bag gives up. A seam goes or a zip strips, and now your laptop, your crib, your smoko gear and your wet weather kit are loose in the back of a ute. You carry what you can in your hands and you leave the rest behind — and what you leave behind is what you want at four in the morning.

This is a mid-size tactical daypack built for that run: a bag that lives in the ute, goes on the plane, and carries a laptop without a separate case.

About the size, because this is the part everyone gets wrong. This pack has been sold as 45 litres and as 50 litres. Neither figure stands up. The supplier's own dimensions panel in the gallery states 550 x 350 x 250 mm. Multiply those out and the absolute outer box is 48 litres — and that is the box the bag would fill if it were a solid rectangle. It is not. It has curved panels, a divided lid and two side pockets that eat into the main volume, so what you can actually load is meaningfully less than 48 litres. A 50 litre claim is larger than the outer box, which is not possible.

So we publish the millimetres and no litre rating. The millimetres come off the supplier's own drawing. The litre figure does not come from anywhere we can check, and every seller of this shape quotes a different one. Measure the gear you actually carry against 550 x 350 x 250 mm and you will know where you stand.

What It Does

• Carries a laptop: a padded sleeve sits inside the main compartment, so the machine travels in the bag rather than in a second case on your shoulder.
• Splits the load: a top lid compartment, a main compartment, a front zip pocket and two zipped side pockets keep smoko gear out from under wet weather kit.
• Takes MOLLE gear: webbing runs across the front, the lid and both side pockets, so pouches, a torch holder or a bottle carrier can be added where you want them.
• Moves weight to your hips: padded shoulder straps, a sternum strap and a waist belt pull the load off your shoulders on a long walk in.
• Keeps some air behind you: raised mesh channels run down the back panel instead of one flat pad against your shirt.
• Cinches down half empty: side compression straps pull a light load in tight so it stops rolling around in the bag.

Limits

There is no litre rating on this page and that is deliberate. The supplier states external dimensions and nothing else. We are not going to convert 550 x 350 x 250 mm into a capacity figure and present it as a measurement, because the arithmetic gives you the outer box and not the usable volume.

We do not publish a fabric weight. There is no denier printed on the pack, on the labels or anywhere in the supplier's artwork. Listings for packs of this shape quote 600D, 800D, 900D and 1000D, and they cannot all be right about this one. Where sources disagree and none of them is the manufacturer, we publish nothing.

It is not waterproof. The supplier's artwork shows water beading off the fabric, which tells you there is a water-repellent finish and nothing about how long it lasts. There is no IP figure and no rating of any kind. Treat it as showerproof: it will handle a walk from the car park in the rain, it will not keep your laptop dry in sustained weather, and it is not a dry bag. If your kit must stay dry, line the bag or use a dry sack inside it.

Nothing on this pack is certified. No standard is printed on the bag and no test certificate was sighted. The artwork carries icons suggesting cut resistance, breathability and abrasion resistance, and none of those icons is backed by a standard number. Do not treat this as protective equipment.

The water bottle pouch and the carabiner shown in the gallery are not confirmed as included. They appear in the supplier's images alongside the pack. The supplier does not list them in a contents list, so assume the bag on its own and treat anything else as a bonus if it turns up.

It is not a hydration pack. There is no bladder, no bladder sleeve identified by the supplier and no hose port shown.

The colour and the pattern are a finish, not a credential. CP camouflage and the patch panel are styling choices on a civilian bag. This is not issued kit, it carries no service association, and the patch panel is empty because what goes on it is up to you.

Maximum laptop size is not stated. The gallery shows a laptop beside the pack for scale, but the supplier gives no sleeve dimensions, so a large machine is a measure-first job against the 550 x 350 mm face.

So how big is it, in plain terms?

550 mm tall, 350 mm wide and 250 mm deep on the outside. That is the only size figure the supplier states, and it is the one to measure your gear against. If you want a rough feel: it swallows a change of clothes, a laptop, a lunch box and a jacket, and it is bigger than a school bag and smaller than a hiking pack you would take overnight in the bush.

Why does the page not say 45 or 50 litres like everywhere else?

Because the numbers do not work. The outside of the bag is 550 x 350 x 250 mm, which is a 48 litre box. A bag cannot hold more than the box it fits inside, so 50 litres is out. And a real pack with curved sides, a separate lid and two side pockets never reaches its own outer box, so 45 is optimistic too. We would rather hand you the millimetres and let you check.

Will my laptop fit?

There is a padded sleeve in the main compartment and the supplier shows a laptop with the pack, but no sleeve measurement is given. The pack face is 550 x 350 mm, so a standard work laptop is comfortable. Measure a larger machine before you order rather than assume.

Can I get caught in the rain with it?

A shower, yes. A day of steady rain, no. The fabric has a water-repellent finish with no rating behind it and the zips are not sealed. Anything that must stay dry goes in a dry sack inside the bag.

What is it actually made of?

A woven synthetic fabric — you can see the weave clearly in the close-up images. The supplier does not state the fibre or the fabric weight, and we are not going to pick one of the four different figures other sellers quote. If the denier matters to your decision, this is not the listing to buy off.

Which colour holds up best on site?

Black hides grease and marks best and looks least out of place travelling. Khaki and Army Green show dust less in red dirt country. CP camouflage is the one that reads as tactical rather than work gear, so think about where you are carrying it before you pick it.
