Single Camping Mattress Ultralight Inflatable Built-in Air Pump

A hundred millimetres of air between you and the ground.

You know the one. A thin foam mat, a hip bone finding every root and rock under it, and the cold coming up through your back by two in the morning. You spend the night rolling over instead of sleeping, and the next day on the track you are slow, short-tempered and not making good calls.

This is a single inflatable mat with 100 mm of air cells under you and a 150 mm pillow built into the head end, so your jacket stays on your back instead of screwed up under your neck. It is 1.9 m (L) x 650 mm (W) laid out, it weighs 850 g, and it rolls into a sack about 290 mm long that straps to the outside of a pack.

Be clear on one thing before you buy: it does not blow itself up. There is a pump bag welded into the mat and you press it with your hand or stand on it with a boot until it is firm. No 12V lead, no batteries, no separate pump to leave at home — but you are the pump, and the supplier prints no figure for how long that takes.

What It Does

• Lifts you off the dirt: a hundred millimetres of air cells between your hip and whatever is under the tent floor.
• Inflates without a pump: a bag built into the mat that you press by hand or stand on, then top up through the valve by mouth if you want it harder.
• Carries its own pillow: a 150 mm inflated pillow at the head end, so nothing has to be rolled up and used as one.
• Joins to a second mat: press studs down both sides clip two of these pads together to make a double.
• Dumps the air fast: a separate exhaust port on the same valve body, then fold it in half and roll it from the pillow end.
• Rides on the outside: 850 g and about 290 mm rolled, in the supplied sack, so it straps to a pack rather than filling it.
• Keeps ground damp off you: the supplier calls the shell moisture-isolating and damp-proof. Read the Limits tab before you trust that word.

Limits

Everything below is a thing this mat does not do. None of it is a reason not to buy one — it is what you need to know before you take it somewhere cold or wet.

• It is not self-inflating: there is no foam core that sucks air in on its own and there is no motor. You open the valve and work the built-in pump bag with a hand or a boot until it is hard. Plan on a few minutes of standing on it, not seconds.
• It is not waterproof: and we are not going to call it that. The supplier prints “moisture isolation” and “damp proof” on the artwork and nothing else — no IP number, no hydrostatic head, no rating of any kind. Take it as: it will keep dew and ground damp off your back and it will shed a spilled brew. It is not sealed, it is not a groundsheet, and it must not be left sitting in a puddle or floated on water.
• There is no R-value: the artwork says “cold proof” and gives no number to back it. Air on its own is a poor insulator compared with a foam or down-filled mat, so on frozen or wet-cold ground put a closed-cell foam mat or a mylar sheet underneath and use a bag rated for the conditions. If you are buying a mat specifically for snow, buy one with a published R-value.
• It is an air mattress: a sharp stick, a bindi or a stray coal will put a hole in it, and a holed air mat is a night on the ground. Clear the ground before you lay it out, and carry a patch kit.
• The repair kit is not confirmed: the supplier artwork shows the mattress and the storage sack and nothing else. Patches may or may not be in the box — we have not sighted a packing list, so we are not listing them as included.
• It is a single: 650 mm wide. Two adults do not fit on one. Buy two and clip them together if you want a double.
• It is not a rescue or flotation device: it holds air, which is not the same thing as being safe to float on. It carries no buoyancy certification of any kind and it is not to be used in water.

Q & A

How does it actually inflate, and how long does it take?

There is a soft pump bag built into the underside near the foot end. You open the inflation valve, then press that bag repeatedly with a flat hand or stand on it with a boot — the supplier’s own instructions say either. Air goes in one way and cannot come back out while the bleeder is shut. If it is not firm enough at the end, open the first layer of the valve and top it up by mouth. The supplier publishes no inflation time, so we are not going to invent one; expect it to be a few minutes of steady work rather than the ten seconds a marketing photo implies.

Is it self-inflating?

No. Self-inflating mats have an open-cell foam core that draws air in when you unroll them and open the valve. This one is a plain air mattress with a manual pump built in. If you specifically want a mat that inflates itself while you set up camp, this is the wrong one.

What is the valve like, and how fast does it deflate?

It is a two-stage valve on one housing. The first layer is the inflation side. The second layer is a large-bore exhaust port, and the supplier’s instruction panel says the mat empties within about a second once you open it. Shut the bleeder before you start pumping — that is the single most common reason one of these will not come up hard.

Can I join two of them into a double?

Yes. There are press studs down both long edges, and the supplier’s own photograph shows a green pad and a blue pad clipped together side by side. Two singles clipped up give you 1.3 m of width. They are studs, not a zip, so the pads will still move independently a bit.

Will it keep me warm on cold ground?

Warmer than lying straight on the dirt, because 100 mm of air is 100 mm of separation. Beyond that we cannot tell you, because there is no R-value printed on this product and we have not sighted a test figure. For a frosty night, put something with a known insulation value under it.

Will I fit on it?

It is 1.9 m long and 650 mm wide inflated, which is a standard single sleeping width. If you are much over 1.9 m tall your feet will hang off the end, and if you sleep on your back with your arms out you will find 650 mm snug. The 150 mm pillow eats into the usable length a little as well.

Can I leave it out in the rain?

We would not. It sheds damp from below and it will handle dew and a spilled cup, but there is no water rating printed on it at all, and the valve housing is a hole in the shell with a plastic cap over it. Pack it into the sack when you break camp.
