Socket Adapter Set 3 Piece - 1/4", 3/8" & 1/2" Hex Shank

Turn the drill you own into a socket driver.

You are under the ute or halfway up a tank stand with a cordless drill in one hand, and the nut you need to shift takes a socket. The drill will not hold a socket. So it is back to the shed for the ratchet, and then you are trying to swing a ratchet in a gap that will not let you swing anything.

These three adapters bridge that gap. A 1/4" hex shank goes into the drill chuck — the same shank every driver bit uses — and a square drive comes out the far end for your sockets. One in 1/4" drive, one in 3/8" drive, one in 1/2" drive, so whatever is in the socket roll has something to sit on.

They are a convenience set, not a rated power-tool accessory. The supplier's own artwork says "impact grade" in the banner and then states 45# carbon steel in the spec panel, and those two things do not agree. So we are not calling them impact rated. What It Does

• Fits the chuck you have: the shank is a standard 1/4" hex, 6.35 mm across the flats, with the retaining groove, so it drops into a keyless chuck or a quick-change bit holder.
• Covers three drive sizes: 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" square drive — the whole spread of a normal socket roll, one adapter each.
• Holds the socket on: every square drive carries a spring-loaded detent ball, so the socket clicks on and stays on instead of dropping down behind the engine.
• Works in a tight gap: 65 mm long on the two small ones and 74 mm on the 1/2" drive adapter, short enough to get in where a ratchet handle has nowhere to swing.
• Reads at a glance: colour-coded collars — yellow, red and blue — so you grab the right one out of the crib bag without squinting at it.

Limits

• We are not calling it impact rated: the banner on the supplier's artwork says "impact grade", and the spec panel on the same artwork says the connecting rod is 45# carbon steel, chrome-plated. 45# is a medium carbon steel, not one of the impact-grade steels an impact-rated accessory is normally made from. Two statements from the same supplier that contradict each other are not evidence, so neither one gets published as a fact.
• No torque or hardness figure: nothing on the artwork or in the supplier data states a maximum torque, a hardness or a test standard. Treat these as a convenience adapter for a drill or a driver, not as something to hang off a rattle gun on wheel nuts.
• It is a straight adapter: the square drive is fixed. It is not a wobble drive and not a universal joint, so it will not get you around a corner.
• 1/4" hex shank only: it will not go in an SDS chuck, and there is nothing in the set that adapts up to 3/4" drive.
• Plating is not stainless: leave one in a wet toolbox or a boat locker long enough and the plating gives up and the steel underneath rusts.
• The black finish is unstated: the supplier states chrome plating, which describes the silver set. What the black set is coated with is not specified by supplier.
• No sockets, no case: you get three adapters. Packaging is not specified by supplier.

Q & A

Will it fit my impact driver?

Physically, yes. The shank is the standard 1/4" hex that every impact driver and every quick-change holder takes, and it has the retaining groove machined into it. Whether it will stand up to an impact driver long term is a different question and the supplier has not answered it — read the Limits tab.

Which of the three do I actually need?

Look at the square hole in the back of your sockets. Small trim and electrical sockets are usually 1/4" drive, general sockets are 3/8" drive, and the heavy ones off a wheel brace are 1/2" drive. You get all three in the set, so you are covered either way.

How long are they?

65 mm overall for the 1/4" drive and the 3/8" drive, and 74 mm for the 1/2" drive. Those numbers come off the supplier's own dimension drawings, which are in the image gallery on this page.

What is the difference between the silver and the black?

The finish, as far as anything is stated. Both sets are the same three drive sizes with the same colour-coded collars and the same 1/4" hex shank. The supplier states chrome plating on the silver; it does not say what the black coating is.

Is the shank magnetic?

Not specified by supplier, and nothing in the supplier images shows a magnet. Work on the basis that it is not.

Are sockets included?

No. Three adapters, nothing else. Some of the supplier's photographs show sockets and universal joints alongside them to demonstrate the fit — those are not part of what you are buying.

Specs
