You lean on the spanner, it lets go, and the bolt head that was hex a second ago is round, rusted and going nowhere. The job stops right there. Keep working it with the same spanner and you polish the head a bit worse with every pull — what started as a five-minute swap ends as an afternoon with a drill.
These sockets are built for exactly that moment. Inside each one is a set of reverse spiral flutes that bite into whatever is left of the flats — the harder you pull, the deeper they grip. Tap the socket onto the damaged head with a hammer, fit a 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar, turn anticlockwise, and the fastener comes out with the socket.
Thirteen sizes from 6.35 mm to 19 mm cover the common metric and imperial heads on utes, trailers, mowers and machinery, and the included adapter runs them from a 1/4" hex chuck for lighter jobs. Fair warning before you start: an extractor socket saves the job, not the fastener. Whatever it grips, it chews — have a new nut or bolt ready to go back in.

Limits
- It destroys what it removes: the flutes cut into the fastener to grip it. The nut or bolt that comes out goes in the bin — have a replacement on hand before you start.
- It needs something to grip: these work on damaged heads that still stand proud of the surface. A bolt snapped off flush or below the surface is a job for a drill and a screw extractor, not this set.
- No published impact rating: the supplier states no impact rating for these sockets, and the bright finish is what you would normally see on hand-tool sockets. Use them on a ratchet or breaker bar with a steady pull. The supplier shows them running from a cordless drill on light work; a rattle gun is a risk the maker has not signed off on.
- 19 mm is the ceiling: nothing in the case grips a head bigger than 19 mm across the flats.
- Removal only: the spiral bites turning anticlockwise. These are extraction tools, not sockets for doing fasteners back up.
Q & A
Will it get a bolt that has snapped off flush with the surface?
No. An extractor socket needs a head to bite on. If the bolt has sheared flush or below the surface, that is drill-and-screw-extractor territory — this set is for heads that are rounded, rusted or chewed but still standing proud.
Can I run these on my rattle gun?
The supplier publishes no impact rating for this set, so we will not claim one. Put them on a 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar and use a steady pull — that is how extractor sockets work best anyway, because the flutes bite progressively as the load comes on.
Can I reuse the nut or bolt it removes?
No. The flutes cut into the flats to get their grip, and what comes out is chewed. Treat every fastener you extract as scrap and have a new one ready.
What do I drive them with?
The sockets take a 3/8" square drive, so a standard ratchet or breaker bar fits straight on. The kit also includes a 1/4" hex shank adapter, so you can run them from a drill or driver chuck on smaller fasteners.
Do the sockets cover metric and imperial fasteners?
Yes. The thirteen sockets run from 6.35 mm to 19 mm, and the supplier dual-marks most of them with the near-equivalent imperial size — 14 mm / 9/16", 16 mm / 5/8", 19 mm / 3/4" and so on. The size chart in the case lid maps every socket.
