Track My Order

Your outline gives you away before you move.

Game does not read a camouflage print. It reads shape. A plain cap sits on your head as a smooth, hard dome, and there is nothing in the scrub that looks like that. The outline is what gets picked up, and it gets picked up well before you move.

That is the job this hat is built for. Individually cut leaf shapes are stitched in rows across the shell so the edge of your head stops reading as a clean curve and starts reading as foliage.

Get clocked early and the rest follows on its own: the bird flares, the deer steps in behind cover, and the sit you drove two hours for is finished before it started.

One thing to get right before you order. This listing carries two genuinely different hats. Four of the six options are peaked caps with an adjustable rear strap. The other two are wide-brim boonie hats with a chin cord. The option codes do not tell you which is which — the photo attached to each option does.

What It Does
  • Breaks up your head shape: cut leaf shapes stand off the shell in rows, so the hard dome outline goes soft.
  • Keeps the sun off your face: a stiffened peak on the caps, a full brim all the way round on the boonies.
  • Adjusts to your head: one size, with the supplier's size panel giving 550–600 mm head circumference.
  • Packs down small: the shell is unstructured apart from the peak, so it squashes into a pack pocket and springs back.
  • Stays on in wind: the boonie options carry a chin cord with a sliding lock; the caps rely on the strap.
Key Features
  • Two shapes, one listing: a1, a2, b1 and b2 are peaked caps. c1 and c2 are wide-brim boonie hats. Go by the variant photo.
  • Cut leaf overlay: individual leaf shapes stitched in rows across the crown and brim, with the cut edges sealed rather than hemmed.
  • Metal buckle adjuster: the peaked caps close with a printed fabric strap running through a metal slide buckle at the rear.
  • Chin cord on the boonies: a printed cord with a sliding barrel lock, so the brim does not lift in a breeze.
  • Stiffened, pre-curved peak: several rows of topstitching hold the curve, and the underside is a dark olive.
  • Lined crown: the interior shows a dark lining, a bound edge and olive tape running across the crown.
  • Six leaf patterns: all six options are leaf-pattern camouflage — broadly a grey and green woodland tone and a brown and tan autumn tone.
  • Cool hand wash: the supplier's care panel specifies below 30°C, no scrubbing, dry in the shade and hang to dry.

Limits

Here is what this hat will not do for you.

  • It is not a ghillie suit: it covers your head. Your body, hands and pack are still your problem.
  • It will not hide movement: shape is only one of the things that gives you up. Movement, wind direction and a shiny face still will.
  • No sun protection rating: it shades your face and neck the way any brimmed hat does, but no UPF figure is printed on it and none has been tested.
  • Not weather gear: no water resistance rating is published for it. Steady rain will soak it through, and wet leaf shapes go limp.
  • The fibre content is unknown: there is a care label sewn into the crown, but it is not legible in any supplier photograph even enlarged 22 times. We are not going to guess at it.
  • No certification of any kind: no standard number is printed on the hat and no certificate has been sighted. It is concealment kit, not protective equipment.
  • Leaves can snag: the cut shapes are fabric. Pushing through blackberry or hard scrub will pull some of them about, and a determined thorn will tear one.
  • Over 600 mm and it will not fit: the supplier's own reference chart puts a larger male head at 590–610 mm, which runs past the top of the adjustment range.
  • The option codes are unhelpful: a1 through c2 are the supplier codes. They are not descriptive and we have not renamed them, because we cannot confirm a colour name for each one.

Q & A

Which options are caps and which are the wide-brim hats?

a1, a2, b1 and b2 are peaked caps. c1 and c2 are the wide-brim boonie hats with the chin cord. Each option carries its own photograph, and that photograph is the reliable guide.

How do I know it will fit?

Run a tape around your head just above your ears and across the brow. The supplier's size panel gives an adjustment range of 55–60 cm (550–600 mm), and notes its own measurements are taken by hand with 10–20 mm either way.

What is the fabric?

Not stated. There is a care label stitched into the crown but it cannot be read in any of the supplier photographs, so we have left the material row unspecified rather than put a fibre on the page that we cannot stand behind.

Will the leaves fall off?

They are stitched on in rows rather than glued, and the cut edges are sealed so they do not fray. That said, they sit proud of the shell by design, so hard scrub will catch them.

Is a hat like this enough on its own?

No, and it is worth being straight about that. It softens the outline of your head, which is the part of you that usually sits highest and gets seen first. It does nothing about your body, your movement or your scent.

Can I wear it under a hood or with a face veil?

The caps sit low and flat enough to go under a hood. The boonies do not — the brim is too wide. Nothing about a face veil is stated by the supplier and none is included.
