When the socket will not line up with the nut.
Half the fasteners on a machine sit where you cannot get a straight run at them. Behind a bracket, under a guard, down the side of a chassis rail, up inside a wheel arch. The driver is a hundred millimetres too long and the socket sits off square, so it will not seat.
So you give up on the driver, get the ring spanner out, and turn the nut a sixth of a flat at a time. Or you cheat the socket on at an angle, round the corners off it, and a five-minute job becomes a drilling and extraction job on somebody else's shift.
These three adapters put a swivel joint between the driver and the socket. The socket sits square on the fastener while the tool body sits off to the side, clear of whatever is in the way. One piece for each of the three common square drive sizes — 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" — and all three run the same 6.35 mm hex shank, so they drop into a chuck or a quick-change holder you already own.
What It Does
- Gets the driver off line: the joint lets the tool body swing away from the obstruction while the socket stays square on the fastener.
- Covers all three drives: 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" square, so one set feeds a small socket rail and a big one.
- Fits what you already own: a 6.35 mm hex shank with the quick-change groove cut in it, so it seats in a drill chuck, a magnetic bit holder or a hex-drive screwdriver handle.
- Holds the socket on: a spring-loaded ball detent in each square drive stops the socket dropping off when you are reaching overhead or lying under a vehicle.
- Stays short: 52 to 56 mm overall, so it adds about the length of your thumb rather than the length of an extension bar.

- No steel grade claimed: the supplier does not name one and neither do we. The Q & A tab explains why we left that row empty instead of filling it.
Limits
A swivel adapter buys you access and pays for it in strength. Here is where this set stops.
- No impact rating: the supplier states none, and nothing on the tools or the artwork claims one. Do not run these on a rattle gun or an impact wrench. A universal joint under hammer action is a known failure point on this kind of tool.
- The more angle, the less it holds: run close to straight and the joint carries the load evenly. Run it well off line and the drive wants to cam out — it will jump off the fastener and round the corners rather than turn it. Use the smallest angle that clears the obstruction.
- The shank is the weak link: all three pieces run the same 6.35 mm hex, including the 1/2" one. A 1/2" square is normally fed by a far bigger drive than that, so on heavy work it is the shank that gives way first, not the square.
- No torque figure published: the supplier does not state a maximum and we are not going to invent one. Treat this as a hand-tool and drill-driver accessory, not a breaker-bar accessory.
- No swivel angle published: the drawings show the shank articulating off the drive axis but print no figure in degrees, so we cannot tell you the maximum offset. If a specific angle decides the job for you, treat it as unknown.
- No sockets included: you get three adapters. They take standard square-drive sockets, which you supply.
- Not the tool for sustained heavy torque: where a job needs real grunt at an angle, a full impact-rated universal joint on a 1/2" ratchet is the right pick. This set is for access in tight spots at light to medium load.
Q & A
Will these fit my cordless drill?
If it takes a 6.35 mm hex bit, yes. The shank is a standard 6.35 mm hex, 26 mm long, with the quick-change groove cut in it, so it seats in a three-jaw chuck, a magnetic bit holder or a hex-drive screwdriver handle. That covers most cordless drivers whatever the badge on them says — it is the shank standard doing the work, not brand compatibility.
Can I run them on an impact driver or a rattle gun?
The shank will physically seat in an impact driver's collet, but no impact rating is stated anywhere by the supplier, so treat these as unrated and keep them off hammer action. Impact tools batter a swivel joint and the joint is the first thing to go. Drill driver, hand ratchet or screwdriver handle is where they belong.
What steel are they made from?
The supplier does not say. Nothing is etched on the tools and the artwork names no grade. Sellers of similar-looking sets variously claim chrome vanadium, chrome molybdenum and plain carbon steel, and they cannot all be right about this one, so we have left the row empty rather than pick the flattering answer. What is visible in the images is a polished chrome-plated finish.
Will the socket stay on?
Each square drive carries a spring-loaded ball detent, the same arrangement a ratchet handle uses. It clicks into the dimple in the socket wall and holds it there. It is a sprung ball, not a lock, so a socket still pulls off deliberately — which is what you want when you are swapping sizes with one hand.
How far do they actually swivel?
We cannot give you a number. The supplier's drawings show the shank pivoting off the axis of the square drive and swinging round it, but no figure in degrees is printed on the tools or on any of the artwork, and we will not estimate one off a marketing render.
What is actually in the box?
Three adapters — one 1/4", one 3/8" and one 1/2" square drive. No sockets, no case, no extension bars and no handle. One of the supplier's photographs shows an adapter fitted to a black screwdriver handle; that handle is not included, it is in the frame to show what the shank fits.
