A normal belt wants two hands and a bit of daylight. You have got gloves on, you are half out of the ute, and you are feeling around behind a prong for a hole that is either half a size too tight or half a size too loose. Leather stretches, the holes wear oval, and the one you actually want is never the one that is there.

This one has no holes in it. The tail folds back onto a hook-and-loop panel, so you set the fit exactly where you want it rather than picking the least-wrong hole. The buckle is a plastic side-release with a centre push tab — thumb it and the belt lets go, one hand, without looking.

The number to check before you order is the width. It is 50 mm, and that is a wide belt. It is made to sit over trousers, overalls or a jacket hem, or to run through the wide loops on workwear. It will not thread through the narrow loops on a pair of jeans, and that is the single thing people get caught out by in this category.

Limits

This is a clothing belt. It is not load-rated and it is not life-safety equipment.

The supplier publishes no breaking strain, no working load and no rescue rating for this belt, and no certificate of any kind has been sighted. Do not use it for fall arrest, abseiling, rappelling, climbing, towing, or lifting or lowering a person or a load. It closes with a moulded plastic buckle onto a hook-and-loop panel — that combination is designed to hold your trousers up and to let go quickly when you want it to, which is the opposite of what a load-bearing belt has to do.

For the same reason we will not tell you how much kit it will carry. A duty belt hanging a loaded holster and full pouches puts a steady downward load on the buckle and the hook-and-loop, and the supplier has published no figure that would let us say where that stops. The uses it does state are cycling, skiing, hiking and daily walking.

It will not go through narrow belt loops. At 50 mm the belt is wider than the loops on most jeans and ordinary trousers. Measure your loops before you order, or plan to wear it over the top.

It is not waterproof. One of the supplier's marketing images shows water beading on the fabric and prints the word "waterproof" on it. There is no rating, no test and no standard behind that, so we are not going to repeat it. Treat it as water resistant: it will shrug off rain and splashes, and it will soak through if you swim in it.

No minimum or maximum waist is published. The strap is 1.3 m end to end, but the usable waist is shorter than that because the tail has to fold back onto itself far enough to grip. How much shorter depends on how much overlap you leave.

No washing instructions are published either. There is no care label information from the supplier, so we cannot tell you it is machine washable.

Q & A

Will it fit through the belt loops on my jeans?

Almost certainly not. The webbing is 50 mm wide and the loops on most jeans and ordinary trousers are cut for a 35 mm to 40 mm belt. This one is built to be worn over the top of clothing, or through the wide loops you get on cargo trousers, overalls and workwear. Put a tape across your own loops before you decide.

What waist size does it fit?

The supplier does not publish a minimum or a maximum, so we are not going to guess one. What is stated is the total strap length: 1.3 m. The belt adjusts continuously on the hook-and-loop panel rather than in fixed steps, so the fit is set wherever you put it — but the usable waist is less than the full 1.3 m, because the tail has to overlap the panel enough to hold. Measure around where you will actually wear it, over the clothing and gear you will have on at the time.

Is the buckle metal?

No. The supplier's spec panel states the buckle material as plastic, and the close-up photographs show a moulded polymer side-release buckle colour-matched to the webbing. It is not a metal buckle and it is not a Cobra-style buckle. If you specifically want metal, this is not the belt.

Can I hang a holster or heavy pouches off it?

We cannot tell you that it will hold them, because no load figure exists for it. There is no breaking strain and no working load published, and no certification. A plastic side-release buckle closing onto hook-and-loop is not the same thing as a rigid stiffened duty belt, and anything that has to take a real hanging weight should be on a belt that publishes a rating.

How does it actually adjust?

The tail passes through the buckle and then folds back onto a hook-and-loop panel on the inside of the belt. There are no punched holes, so nothing wears oval and nothing limits you to fixed increments. You pull it to where you want it and press the tail down.

Can I put it through the wash?

The supplier publishes no care instructions for it, so we cannot say. It is a nylon webbing belt with a plastic buckle and metal studs, so sponging it down and letting it dry is the safe option.
