Anti Impact & Anti Cut Gloves

The spanner slips. Your knuckles find the chassis.

You are half under the bonnet with a seized bolt, the spanner lets go, and your hand travels the last few centimetres into something hard and sharp. Or you are running a frayed winch cable through your fingers on a recovery and it opens your palm up. Either way you are off the tools, into the first-aid kit, and someone is filling in an incident report.

These are a knitted cut-resistant work glove with moulded rubber guards across the knuckles and the back of every finger. The knit slows a blade that drags across it. The guards spread a knock so it lands on rubber instead of bone. The palm is sandy nitrile, which is the coating that holds on to a greasy spanner when a leather glove is already sliding.

The shell is HPPE, and the cut rating is ANSI/ISEA 105 cut level A9. That scale runs A1 to A9, so A9 is the top step of it — the sort of knit you reach for around sheet metal, glass, banding strap and blade edges, not the sort you pull on for splinters. Two things to be straight about. The rating is not printed on the glove and we do not hold the test certificate document itself. And it is a cut number only: the moulded guards spread a knock, but there is no impact rating behind them.

What It Does

• Takes the knock: moulded guards run across the knuckles and down the back of every finger, so a slipping tool or a dropped socket hits rubber and spreads out instead of landing on bone.
• Slows a blade: the grey speckled shell is an HPPE anti-cut knit rated ANSI/ISEA 105 cut level A9, the top of that scale, so a sharp edge dragged across the back of your hand does not open it the way a cotton rigger glove does.
• Grip in the grease: a sandy nitrile palm coating that keeps hold of oily spanners, wet steel and muddy recovery gear.
• Padding where you lean: raised pads moulded into the palm and the heel of the hand, for the times you are pushing down on something you would rather not feel.
• Built up at the thumb: the join between thumb and forefinger is reinforced — that is the seam that goes first on a work glove.
• Stays on the hand: a knitted cuff with a hook-and-loop strap that pulls the wrist in, so they do not walk off when you are dragging gear.
• Sized off your own hand: the supplier publishes a hand length and hand width chart in centimetres, and it is reproduced in the Specs tab.

Limits

Straight up, here is what these gloves will not do.

• No certificate document on file: the cut rating is ANSI/ISEA 105 cut level A9. What we do not hold is the test certificate itself, and no rating is printed on the glove or on the supplier artwork, so a site that wants the paperwork on file cannot get it from this page. Cut is also the only figure confirmed — nothing is stated for abrasion, tear or puncture.
• Nothing is cut proof: a cut-resistant knit slows a blade sliding across it. It will not stop a powered blade, an angle grinder, a deliberate stab or a deliberate slash. A sharp edge is still sharp with these on.
• Not a chainsaw glove: chainsaw hand protection works by feeding loose fibre into the chain to jam it, and it is tested to its own standard. Nothing on these gloves does that job.
• No impact standard behind them: the moulded guards spread a knock, and that is the whole of the claim. There is no EN 388 impact marking on them, and they will not save a hand caught between two hard faces or under a load.
• Not heat or flame rated: no hot work, no welding, no picking up hot metal. There is no thermal rating of any kind.
• Not electrically insulated: never use these for live electrical work. They carry no electrical rating.
• Not a chemical glove: the nitrile palm sheds oil and grease. It has no chemical permeation rating, and the knitted back of the hand is not sealed at all.
• Not waterproof: the palm is coated, the back is knitted, and water goes straight through the back of the hand.
• No food contact approval: none has been stated by the supplier, so do not treat them as food-safe.
• The size chart is the supplier's: it carries their own note that it is for reference only, and one of its rows is misprinted. See the note under the size table.
• Tools are not included: the tool case, hammer and spanners in the photographs are there to show scale and use. You get the gloves.

Q & A

What cut level are these?

ANSI/ISEA 105 cut level A9. That is the highest cut level on the ANSI scale, which runs A1 to A9, so in cut terms this is about as far up as a knitted glove goes. Two caveats worth knowing. The rating is not printed on the glove and we do not hold the test certificate document, so if a job needs the paperwork on file this page cannot supply it. And A9 is a cut figure only — it says nothing about impact, abrasion or puncture.

Is that one glove or a pair?

A pair. The supplier photographs show a mirrored left and right glove together, and the only choice at checkout is size — there is no left or right option.

Which size do I take?

Measure your hand two ways: across the palm at the knuckles, and from the tip of your middle finger down to the base of the palm. Then read the size table in the Specs tab. Sizes run S to XXL, which the supplier numbers 7 through 11.

Will they work a touchscreen?

Not specified by supplier. Nothing on the artwork mentions touchscreen use and the fingertips are coated, so work on the basis that they do not.

Any good for filleting fish?

The knit is the part that helps there, and at ANSI/ISEA 105 cut level A9 it is a high one. The thing to weigh against it is bulk: the moulded armour on the back of the hand makes these clumsy for fine knife work next to a plain cut-resistant knit. And a filleting blade drawn hard across a glove will still get through — A9 buys you time, not immunity.

Can I use them for chainsaw work?

No. Chainsaw hand protection is a different build tested to its own standard, and these are not it. Use gloves made and rated for the saw.

Size Chart

Every figure above is taken straight off the supplier size chart. The XXL palm width is printed there as 14.5–12.5 cm (145–125 mm), which is not a range that can be read, so it has been left out rather than guessed at. The chart also carries the supplier's own note that it is for reference only. A size XS, numbered 6, appears on their chart but is not stocked here.
