Pull a shallow ding without a panel shop
A trolley rolls into the door in the car park. A mate swings his ute door into your guard in the crib room yard. The paint is not broken and there is no crease in it — the panel is just pushed in, and it annoys you every time you walk up to the vehicle.
Book it into a panel shop and you are up for a quote, a booking and a day without the vehicle, for a dent that has not damaged anything. That is the gap this tool sits in.
It is a vacuum suction slide hammer. The rubber cup goes flat on the panel, compressed air pulls a vacuum underneath it so the cup grips, and the knurled weight slides up the shaft and knocks the metal back out towards you. Nothing gets drilled, nothing gets glued and nothing gets sanded. Work it in small taps and stop early.
Get greedy with it and the chain runs the wrong way: too hard a pull stretches the panel, a stretched panel goes high or oil-cans, and now it needs filler, primer and paint — a bigger job than the dent you started with. Small pulls, checked often, is the whole technique.
What It Does
- Grips without adhesive: a moulded rubber cup seals on the paint, so there is no glue tab to bond and no residue to scrub off afterwards.
- Pulls with a slide hammer: the weight runs up the shaft and stops against the collar, so the force is a short sharp pull rather than a steady heave.
- Suits shallow open dents: a smooth, dished dent in the middle of a flat or gently curved panel is what the cup can actually get hold of.
- Changes cup to suit: the cup threads onto the shaft, so you match the cup to the dent instead of forcing one size onto everything.
- Runs on shop air: an in-line ball valve with a red lever and a male quick-connect plug feeds the vacuum body — open the valve to grip, shut it to let go.
- Releases on command: vent holes in the body break the vacuum when the air is shut off, so the cup comes away instead of having to be levered.

- No power, no batteries: it is a hand tool with an air line. Nothing to charge and nothing to go flat.
- Two kit options: SET 2 is the tool with its 120mm cup. SET1 is the tool plus the 150mm and 80mm cups, going by the supplier's own variant photos.
Limits
This tool has a narrow job and it is worth being blunt about where it stops. Most of the disappointment with suction dent pullers comes from pointing them at a dent they were never going to move.
- Not for a sharp crease: a crease has stretched and folded the metal along a line. A cup pulling on the surface will not unfold it, and no amount of hammering will.
- Not over a body line: a dent sitting on a swage line or a panel edge is held by the shape either side of it. The panel is stiff there and it will not come back evenly.
- Not on broken paint: if the paint is cracked, chipped, flaking or previously touched up, the cup cannot seal and the pull can lift more paint off. Sound, smooth, clean paint is what it needs.
- Not on braced panels: bonnets, boot lids and door skins with an inner frame or bracing behind the dent have nowhere to move. Double-skinned areas will not respond.
- Not on textured plastic: the cup needs a smooth, continuous surface to seal against. A grained bumper cover, a sharply curved panel or anything smaller than the cup will not hold vacuum.
- Panel metal matters: aluminium panels and modern high-strength steel do not behave like old mild steel — they spring back differently and stretch more easily. The supplier states nothing about panel material, so do not assume every vehicle responds the same way.
- You can make it worse: pull too hard and you stretch the metal into a high spot that then needs filler and paint. Short pulls, look at it, pull again.
- Not a panel beater: this is a DIY tool for shallow damage on sound paint. It is not a replacement for a trade repair and we are not going to promise you a finish nobody can see.
- Needs a real compressor: it is plumbed for shop air off a tank compressor, which is what the supplier artwork shows. The 12V tyre inflators we sell are built to top a tyre up slowly and are not a substitute — do not plan on running this off one.
- No air figures published: the supplier states no working pressure in kPa or bar and no air consumption in litres per minute. We are not going to make one up. Those two figures are what decides whether a given compressor will keep up, and neither is printed anywhere on the tool or the packaging artwork.
- No hose in the kit: no air hose, fittings adaptor or compressor is shown in either kit photo or listed by the supplier. Assume you supply the hose.
Q & A
What compressor do I need to run it?
The supplier publishes no working pressure and no air consumption figure, so we cannot give you a number and will not invent one. What the tool tells you is the shape of the answer: it takes a male quick-connect plug and feeds a vacuum generator, which is a tank compressor job. The supplier's own artwork shows it hooked to a wheeled tank compressor. A 12V tyre inflator is the wrong tool for it.
What is the difference between SET1 and SET 2?
Going by the supplier's variant photos, SET 2 is the tool with its 120mm cup fitted, and SET1 is that same tool with the 150mm and 80mm cups as well. The supplier does not publish a written contents list, so that reading comes from the photos attached to each option rather than a printed spec.
Will it pull a crease down the side of my door?
No. A crease is folded and stretched metal, and suction on the surface will not unfold it. Same answer for a dent that runs across a body line. This tool is for smooth, dished, shallow dents in the open part of a panel.
Will it damage my paint?
The cup is rubber and nothing is drilled or glued, so the tool itself is not abrasive. Grit trapped under the cup is, though — wash and dry the panel first. If the paint is already cracked or chipped in the dent, the pull can take more of it off, so leave that one alone.
Does it work on a plastic bumper?
Only where the surface is smooth, flat enough and larger than the cup. Grained or textured bumper covers will not hold a vacuum, and a flexible cover often pushes back into shape from behind anyway. The supplier makes no claim about plastics.
How heavy is it and what is it made of?
Overall length is 620mm, from the supplier dimension drawing. Weight is not published, and neither is the alloy — the body, shaft and sliding weight are plated metal and the cups are moulded rubber. Where we do not have the figure, the spec table says so.
