You are halfway through re-skinning a trailer guard and the little plier riveter has had enough. You squeeze, the handles bottom out, the mandrel holds, so you squeeze again with both hands and a knee. The rivet ends up half set, spinning in the hole, and now you are drilling it out instead of moving on.

That is a leverage problem, not a skill problem. A short plier riveter simply does not have the arm length to pull a 4.8 mm mandrel through sheet. This one is 435 mm end to end with two long levers and a coil spring that reopens the jaws between pulls, so the same rivet goes in on one clean squeeze instead of four bad ones.

It is a hand tool. No compressor, no battery, nothing to charge, which is exactly why it lives in the ute and still works on a fence line eighty kilometres from the nearest power point. It sets 3.2 mm, 4.0 mm and 4.8 mm blind rivets, and it is marked BESTIR 04206 in the casting.

Limits

What this tool will not do, so nothing lands as a surprise.

• Not a rivet nut tool: it will not set threaded inserts, nutserts or rivet nuts. Those need a tool with a threaded mandrel that screws into the insert. This one has a plain nosepiece and a gripping jaw, and it does blind rivets only.
• Still a hand tool: the leverage is better, but the effort is yours. A few hundred rivets in a day will find your forearms.
• No material rating stated: the supplier lists 3.2 mm, 4.0 mm and 4.8 mm and never says which rivet materials each size covers. Aluminium pulls easily, steel and stainless at 4.8 mm are far harder work, and the rivet packet is where that answer lives.
• Not for tight spaces: 435 mm long with handles opening to 125 mm, it needs room to swing. A short plier riveter still wins inside a wheel arch.
• No mandrel catcher: no catch bottle appears anywhere in the supplier's images, so spent mandrels drop where they fall. Eye protection, and keep them off the paintwork.
• No rivets included: the supplier does not list any rivets with the tool, so buy them to suit the job.
• No standard marked: nothing on the tool or in the supplier's images marks it to any tool standard, and no test certificate has been sighted. It is a general workshop tool, not a rated fastening system.

Q & A

Will it set rivet nuts or nutserts?

No. This is a blind rivet gun. Rivet nuts need a threaded mandrel that screws into the insert before it is pulled, and this tool has a plain nosepiece and a gripping jaw instead. If threaded inserts are the job, that is a different tool entirely.

What rivet sizes does it take?

3.2 mm, 4.0 mm and 4.8 mm blind rivets, which are the same three sizes a rivet box will call 1/8", 5/32" and 3/16". They are printed on the supplier's size panel and they are what most hardware and trade outlets stock.

Do I need a compressor or a battery?

No. It is entirely hand powered, and that is the point of it. It works on a fence line, on a boat ramp, or in a shed with the power off.

Will it pull 4.8 mm stainless rivets?

The supplier does not state which rivet materials each size covers, so we are not going to claim it. What we can say is that 435 mm of lever gives far more mechanical advantage than a plier riveter covering the same rivet range. Harder rivet materials always take more effort, and the rivet manufacturer's packet states the tool class it expects.

Are any rivets in the box?

The supplier does not list rivets with the tool, so work on the basis that you are buying the riveter and the nosepiece spanner only.
