Three pockets that actually open, not sewn-on decoration.

Five in the morning at the gate, still dark, and you are holding a phone, a set of keys and a swipe card with nowhere to put any of them. The jumper you have on has one shallow pouch. You bend down to check a tyre and the lot goes in the gravel — and now you are on your knees with a torch hunting for a key while the crib truck leaves without you.

Plenty of hoodies sold as tactical answer that with pockets that are not pockets: a strip of fabric top-stitched onto the chest, sometimes with a zip pull attached that opens nothing at all. We went through the supplier's own photographs at high magnification and counted before writing this page. This one has three pockets and all three are real openings.

Two flap-covered patch pockets sit either side of the neck placket, deep enough for a phone and a notebook. A kangaroo pouch runs across the front for cold hands or a rolled-up pair of gloves. It is a pullover, not a jacket — the zip is a short one at the neck for getting it on over a work shirt and dumping heat when you are working hard, and it does not open to the hem.

What it will not do is fasten shut. There is no zip, button, press stud or hook-and-loop on any of the three pockets. The chest flaps fold over the opening and that is the entire closure. Fine for a phone while you are on your feet; no good bent double under a bonnet.

• Moves with you: raglan sleeves and a loose cut, so reaching overhead does not drag the hem out of your pants.

Key Features

• Three real pockets: two flap-covered patch pockets on the chest and one kangaroo pouch. Counted and checked at high magnification against the supplier's photographs.
• Flaps, not fasteners: each chest flap folds over a genuine opening. Nothing zips, buttons or sticks shut anywhere on the garment except the neck.
• Kangaroo pouch: one compartment across the front with a hand entry at each side.
• Short neck zip: one metal slider with a ring pull on the neck placket. It stops around the top of the chest pockets and does not reach the hem.
• Raglan sleeves: the sleeve seam runs to the neck rather than sitting on the point of the shoulder, which is why the two-tone colourway looks the way it does.
• Drawcord hood: lined in the contrast colour with a cord out each side to pull it in.
• Curved drop hem: a plain scooped hem, not a ribbed waistband, so it sits over a belt instead of gripping it.
• Six sizes, six colourways: S through XXXL, in Black & Burgundy, Black & Green, Burgundy & Black, Khaki & Green, Blue & Green and Pink & Burgundy.
• Blank badge: a small tan patch on the pouch carries no brand mark, logo or slogan.

Limits

• Nothing locks shut: a flap is not a fastener. Do not put a phone in a chest pocket and go climbing, crawling or riding.
• Not water resistant: no coating, membrane or rating is claimed by the supplier and none is marked on the garment. It is a hoodie, not a shell — it will wet out in rain.
• Not windproof: it cuts a breeze the way any hooded sweatshirt does. There is no windproof layer and no figure behind that word.
• Not flame resistant: no fibre content is stated and no flame-resistance standard is claimed or printed on it. Do not wear it for hot work, welding, cutting or anywhere FR clothing is mandated. If the fabric turns out to be a synthetic, it will melt rather than char.
• Not rated PPE: no hi-vis, cut, arc or impact standard is marked on this garment — nothing to AS/NZS 4602.1 or AS/NZS 1906.4. It is a layer, not protective equipment.
• Sizing is a garment measurement: the supplier's chart lists the size of the finished hoodie, not the size of the person. Measure yourself and read the chart in the Specs tab before you pick.
• No fabric spec: the supplier states no fibre content, no fabric weight and no washing instructions. We would rather print that than guess it.
• Returns: faulty or not as described only. There is no change-of-mind return on clothing, so get the size right the first time.

Q & A

Do the chest pockets actually open, or are they just sewn on?

They open. We enlarged the supplier's photographs and looked at both of them: under each flap there is a real slot with the pocket bag behind it, and the pocket body runs down the chest below. Nothing fastens them shut — the flap simply folds over.

Is it a pullover, or does the zip go all the way down?

Pullover. The zip is on the neck placket only and stops around the top of the chest pockets. The kangaroo pouch runs unbroken across the front, which is what tells you the front does not open. You pull it on over your head.

What size should I order?

Measure around the fullest part of your chest with a tape, then look at the Chest column in the size chart under Specs. Those numbers are the finished hoodie laid flat and doubled, so you want a fair bit more than your own measurement for the loose fit it is cut for. Someone with a 100 cm (1000 mm) chest is comfortable in the M at 116 cm (1160 mm).

What is it made of?

The supplier does not state it. No fibre content, no fabric weight, no care label appears in any of the product photographs and none is quoted anywhere in the listing we buy from. Other sellers of similar hoodies quote everything from full polyester to a cotton blend and they contradict each other, so we are not going to pick one and print it as fact.

Can I wear it on site?

As a layer in the smoko room, in the ute and on the walk in, yes. It carries no hi-vis, flame-resistance or cut rating and nothing is printed on it, so it does not satisfy a site rule that calls for rated clothing. Check your own site standard against what is actually marked on the garment, which is nothing.

How long will it take to arrive?

Ten to fourteen days from the day you place the order, and allow up to three weeks. Regional and remote addresses run longer again. Delivery is free to Australia and New Zealand.

Copied from the supplier's own chart. It prints numbers with no unit and no measuring method; the values read as centimetres and as measurements of the finished garment, not of the wearer. Chest is the garment laid flat and doubled. Sleeve is the long raglan measurement from the neck to the cuff, not from the armpit.
