A phone in your pocket is a phone you'll sit on.

Back pocket, chest pocket, chucked in the door of the ute — a phone that lives loose is a phone that gets sat on, dropped down a ladder, or buried under three layers when it finally rings. With gloves on you can't get at it at all.

And a phone you can't reach is the same as a phone you haven't got. No call in, no photo of the fault, no way for anyone to raise you when the plan changes on the run. That is the real cost of it — not the cracked screen.

This is a plain Oxford cloth nylon belt holster. Hook-and-loop flap over the top, two belt loops and a metal carabiner on the back, and a pen slot down the side. The phone rides on your hip where you can find it one-handed and it stays there while you climb in and out of gear all shift.

Four sizes, black. The dropdown lists them by the outside dimensions of the pouch — match yours off the table in the Specs tab rather than guessing.

What It Does
  • Keeps it off your backside: the phone sits on your hip instead of your back pocket, so you're not sitting on it in the seat of a loader for twelve hours.
  • One-handed, gloves on: flip the flap and it's there — no unzipping a jacket or digging through overalls while the two-way is going.
  • Comes off without unthreading: the carabiner hooks straight over a belt, a strap or a webbing loop, so it moves between belts and bags without pulling your belt out.
  • Wear it either way: vertical on the hip, or horizontal at the front if you spend the shift with a lap belt across you.
  • Pen where you can reach it: elastic slot down the side takes a pen for pre-starts, dockets and job sheets.
Key Features
  • Oxford cloth nylon: fabric body with stitched edge binding, black throughout.
  • Hook-and-loop flap: wide landing panel, so the flap still fastens when the pouch is packed out a bit.
  • Two belt loops: the belt threads through the back and the pouch sits flat against your hip.
  • Metal carabiner clip: for quick on and off, or for hanging it off a pack strap or a bag loop.
  • Built-in pen holder: elastic slot on the side, outside the main pocket.
  • Four sizes: 135, 150, 165 and 175 mm tall, covering phones with 3.5 to 6.3 inch screens.
  • 25 mm deep: the same depth on every size — that is the number that decides whether a cased phone fits.
  • Light on the belt: 45 g to 70 g depending on the size you take.

Limits

Straight up, here is what this thing will not do.

  • Not a rugged case: it is fabric, not armour. It will shrug off the normal knocks of a shift, but a drop onto rock or concrete goes straight through to the phone. No drop rating is stated by the supplier and we are not claiming one.
  • Not waterproof: no water rating is stated by the supplier. Steady rain, a hose or a dunking will get through. If you need the phone kept dry, this is not the product.
  • Measure, do not guess: the screen sizes quoted are for a bare phone. A thick protective case adds length, width and depth, and every size here is only 25 mm deep. Measure your phone in the case you actually use, then match it against the table in the Specs tab. This is the one thing that catches people out.
  • Gaps in the size ranges: the supplier's ranges skip 4.0–4.5, 5.1–5.2 and 5.5–5.7 inch screens. If yours lands in a gap, take the next size up — a slightly roomy pouch beats one that will not shut.
  • Not a retention holster: the flap is hook-and-loop, not a lock. Fine for walking, driving and normal work. Do not count on it upside down, on a bike, or rolling around under a machine.
  • Internal size not published: the figures in the table are the outside of the pouch. Internal dimensions are not specified by the supplier, so allow for the fabric and the seams.
  • Change of mind is not covered: returns are for faulty or not-as-described gear only. Two minutes with a tape measure before you order is worth it.

Q & A

How do I work out which size to order?
Measure your phone in its case — length, width and thickness — and compare it to the table in the Specs tab. Each size is listed against a screen-size range and the outside dimensions of the pouch. If you are between two, take the bigger one.

Will it fit my phone in a thick case?
It might not. Every size is 25 mm deep, and a heavy-duty case can eat most of that on its own. If you run a rugged case or a wallet case, measure the whole lot and go up a size. Do not order off the screen size alone.

Do I have to unthread my belt to put it on?
Only if you use the belt loops. The metal carabiner hooks straight over a belt, a pack strap or a webbing loop, so you can take it on and off without pulling your belt out.

Can I wear it sideways?
Yes. Vertical on the hip or horizontal at the front, whichever suits what you are sitting in.

Is it waterproof?
No, and the supplier states no water rating at all. Treat it as a fabric pouch — it keeps dust and grit off the phone, not weather.

What fits in the pen slot?
A normal pen or a stylus. It is an elastic slot down the outside of the pouch, so it does not eat into the space the phone needs. The supplier does not state a maximum pen diameter.

What does delivery cost and how long does it take?
Free to Australia and New Zealand, no minimum spend. Allow 10 to 14 days from the day you place the order — that is from your order, not from dispatch — and up to 3 weeks to be safe. Regional and remote runs longer again.

Sizes and fit

Screen sizes are quoted in inches because that is how phones are sold. Everything about the holster itself is metric. Dimensions are the outside of the pouch, height x width x depth.
