Plastic torches crack. This one is machined solid.

Your torch quits in the dark and you are working blind. Not seeing is how people trip, put a foot wrong and walk into something they would have picked up in daylight — and that runs straight on to lost time, an incident report and, on a bad night, someone hurt. Most of the time it is not the LED that failed. It is the body: a plastic torch that lived in the tray of the ute, went off the tailgate onto rock once, and the barrel or the lens let go.

The Everbrite is machined out of aluminium alloy and tapered like a bat handle, so the weight sits back in your fist rather than out at the head. It comes in four lengths, 310 mm through to 490 mm, and the body is one solid piece instead of a moulded shell with a battery tube rattling inside it. The head is finished with a toothed bezel rather than a smooth ring, the handle end is knurled so it does not slide out of a wet or muddy hand, and a wrist lanyard runs through the tail cap.

What we are not going to give you is an output figure. The supplier states brightness, beam distance and runtime in more than one place and the answers do not agree with each other, so all three read not specified by supplier in the table below. What you can check for yourself is the metal, the length and the grip, and those are the honest reasons to own one.

What It Does
  • Lights a track: a single LED behind a deep reflector, throwing a tight centre spot rather than a wide flood, so it puts light a long way down a fence line or a bush track.
  • Survives the ute: a machined alloy body takes knocks, drops and being rolled around in a toolbox without cracking the way a moulded plastic torch does.
  • Comes in four lengths: 310 mm, 360 mm, 410 mm and 490 mm, so you can match it to a door pocket, a swag roll or a pack rather than take whatever is offered.
  • Stays in your hand: the knurled grip section and the wrist lanyard through the tail cap keep hold of it while you are climbing in and out of the rig.
  • Switches on the tail: one button in the tail cap, thumb operated, pressed again to step through the modes.
  • Runs on your own cells: the tail cap unscrews and the battery goes in from the back. No battery is supplied with it.
Key Features
  • Machined alloy body: aluminium alloy, tapered from a wide head down to a slim handle. The exact alloy is not specified by supplier.
  • Toothed strike bezel: the front rim is cut into teeth instead of left as a smooth ring, so a face-down drop lands on the bezel and not on the lens.
  • Knurled grip section: a diamond-pattern knurl on the back third of the body, which is the part you actually hold.
  • Tail cap switch: a single rubber button set into the end cap, reachable with the thumb while your hand stays on the grip.
  • Fixed beam head: there is no zoom collar on the head. The beam is set and cannot be widened or tightened.
  • Wrist lanyard fitted: a woven strap through the tail cap, long enough to loop over the wrist.
  • One head, four lengths: the head and LED are the same across the range, so the length you pick changes the handle, not the light.
  • Black finish only: black anodised body with the EverBrite name printed on the barrel. No other colourway is offered.
  • Battery not included: the torch and its lanyard are what turn up. No cells, no charger.

Limits

Here is the honest list of what this torch will not do.

  • No published output: we do not print a lumen figure, a beam distance or a runtime on this page. The supplier gives different answers in different places and we are not going to pick the flattering one. If a tested output number is what you buy a torch on, this listing cannot give you one.
  • Length is not brightness: the head and the LED are the same on all four. The 490 mm is a longer torch, not a brighter one.
  • No water rating: there is no IP rating or immersion rating printed on the torch or stated by the supplier. Assume it has none, and keep it out of the water.
  • Not a rated glass breaker: the bezel is a machined ring with teeth cut into it. Nothing on the torch and nothing from the supplier says it has been tested to break a vehicle window.
  • No charging socket: there is no charge port anywhere on the body in any of the supplier photographs. Cells come out to be charged, or get replaced.
  • Fixed beam only: no zoom, no adjustable focus, and no side switch.
  • We sell it as a torch: that is the whole of it. We make no claim about it being anything other than a light in a solid aluminium body, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Q & A

Which length should I get?

They are the same torch with a different handle on it. The 310 mm sits in a door pocket or a pack without fighting you; the 490 mm gives you more reach and more weight in the hand. Nothing about the light changes between them, so pick on where it has to live.

How bright is it?

We are not going to tell you, because we do not know. The supplier quotes brightness in three different places and gives three different answers, and an output figure we cannot stand behind is worse than none at all. Brightness, beam distance and runtime all read not specified by supplier in the table below, and that is deliberate.

What battery does it take?

Battery not included, and we are not going to name a cell type either. The supplier photographs show one kind of cell and the supplier written specification implies a different chemistry altogether, and the two cannot both be right. The tail cap unscrews, so the safe move is to open it up and match what is in front of you.

Is it waterproof?

No rating is printed on it and none is stated, so treat it as not rated. Rain running off it while you walk back to camp is one thing; dropping it in a creek is another, and we would not expect it to come out working.

How many modes does it have?

The tail button steps through modes, and the supplier does not say how many or what they are. What we can tell you is that it is a single tail switch and there is no separate side button.

How long does delivery take?

Allow 10 to 14 days from the day you place the order, and up to three weeks to be safe. Regional and remote addresses run longer again. Shipping is free to Australia and New Zealand.
