Your back goes first. It always does.

Lifting gear off a ute tray, a full day on your feet on hard ground, or eight hours in a seat that was never built for you. The lower back takes it, and it lets you know about it by knock-off time.

This is a wide lumbar support belt. Six stays sit down the back panel — four memory-aluminium and two spring — and they limit how far your lower back can fold while you are working. Two elastic double-pull straps let you set the compression where you want it, and a moulded lumbar pad velcros into the middle of the back panel if you want more pressure through the centre. Take the pad out and the belt sits flatter.

That is the whole mechanism. It holds a position and it adds compression. Nothing more clever than that — and for a day of lifting, bending and getting in and out of a machine, that is genuinely useful.

What It Does
  • Adds compression: firm, even pressure right across the lower back, set by how hard you pull the straps in.
  • Restricts how far you fold: four memory-aluminium stays and two spring stays run vertically down the back panel and limit movement through the lumbar region.
  • Adjusts in two stages: the wide velcro wrap sets the base fit, then the two elastic double-pull straps pull the compression up over the top of it.
  • Wears under a shirt: low profile with open mesh between the stays, so it goes under work clothing without announcing itself.
  • Takes the pad in or out: the moulded lumbar pad velcros into the centre panel and lifts straight out again when you want the belt flatter.
Key Features
  • Six stays, not four: four memory-aluminium stays down the back panel plus two spring stays outboard of them.
  • Removable lumbar pad: a moulded pad that velcros into the middle of the back panel, in or out as you please.
  • Two double-pull straps: elastic drawstrings with grab tabs, so the tension can be set one-handed while the belt is on.
  • High-density velcro closure: a wide wrap panel with an anti-slip strip along it so the belt holds where you put it.
  • Breathable mesh panels: open mesh sits between the stays rather than solid fabric all the way round.
  • 4-way stretch outer: 3D knit fabric with a velvet inner layer against the skin.
  • Five sizes, S to XXL: sized on your actual waist measurement at the navel, not on your trouser size.
  • Men and women: the same belt either way — it is sized by measurement, not cut by gender.

Limits

This is a support belt, not a treatment. It will not fix a herniated disc, cure sciatica, correct scoliosis, or heal an injury. It restricts movement and adds compression — nothing more clever than that.

If you have ongoing back pain, or pain that runs down a leg, go and see a doctor or a physio. Back pain has a lot of causes and some of them matter. A belt is not a diagnosis, and strapping up a problem you have not had looked at is a good way to make it worse.

A few other things it is not:

  • Not a substitute for lifting properly: it will not make a bad lift safe, and it will not carry any part of the load for you.
  • Not a medical device: it is not fitted, prescribed or measured to you by anyone, and we do not sell it as one.
  • Not rated to a standard: the supplier states no compression rating, no load rating and no certification, so we do not publish one.
  • Not sized to fit everyone: the range stops at a 140 cm (1400 mm) waist, and sizing sales are final on this item — measure before you order.

Q & A

How do I pick the right size?
Stand relaxed and run a tape around your waist at the level of your navel — that is the measurement the sizes are built on. Do not use your trouser size, it is a different measurement and it is the single most common reason people order the wrong belt. The full size rows are in the Specs tab. If you land between two sizes, the supplier's advice is to take the smaller one for firmer compression. Sizing sales are final on this item, so it is worth the two minutes with a tape.

Does it show under work clothing?
Under a work shirt, a flanno or a jumper, no. It is a low-profile belt and it sits flat. Under a fitted t-shirt you will see the outline of the two straps across the front. If you want it as invisible as possible, take the lumbar pad out — the pad is the thickest part of it.

How long can I wear it for?
The supplier publishes no maximum wear time, so we are not going to invent one. The sensible approach is to put it on for the part of the day that needs it and take it off afterwards, rather than living in it. How long is right for you personally is a question for a doctor or a physio — we cannot advise on that.

Will it ride up or slip down while I am working?
There is an anti-slip strip along the inside of the wrap panel, and the two double-pull straps pull the whole thing in on top of the velcro, which is what stops it creeping. The usual cause of a belt that will not stay put is one ordered a size too big, so it never gets enough tension on it. Measure properly and pull the straps in before you start lifting, not after.

Is it any use for sitting and driving?
It behaves the same sitting as it does standing — it compresses and it restricts how far you can fold. Plenty of people run the straps loose for a long drive or a day at a desk and pull them in before they lift something. That is the whole adjustment range. Whether it suits your situation is not something we can tell you, and if you are sitting the way you are because of a back problem, ask a physio rather than a shop.

How do I wash it?
The supplier does not publish washing instructions, so this is our suggestion rather than theirs: take the lumbar pad out first, close the velcro so it does not grab the fabric, then hand wash in cool water with a mild soap and air dry it flat. No bleach, no machine, and nothing hot — heat is what wrecks elastic and velcro.

How long does delivery take, and what does it cost?
Delivery is free to Australia and New Zealand. Allow 10 to 14 days from the day you place your order — that is counted from your order, not from the day we dispatch it — and allow up to 3 weeks to be safe. Regional and remote addresses take longer again.
