A hot cap comes off, and then you're wearing sunburn.

Everybody has done it. Thirty-five degrees, no shade, and the cap is holding so much heat that you take it off and hang it on the bullbar. Ten minutes later your ears and the back of your neck are cooked, and the cap that was supposed to be keeping the sun off is sitting in the ute.

This one is half mesh. The front panels and the peak are solid woven fabric, and the entire back half of the crown is open air mesh, so the heat coming off your head has somewhere to go. It keeps the sun off your face, your eyes and the top of your head — which is the entire job of a cap — without cooking you under it. Skin you have covered is skin that is not copping it.

The front carries a hook-and-loop panel, so a patch goes on and comes off without stitching — a name, a blood group, a callsign, a bit of nonsense. Twelve patterns, from plain black and khaki through to digital and python camo. One size, adjustable at the back.

What It Does
  • Keeps the sun off: solid front panels and a curved peak between your face, your eyes, the top of your head and the sky. That is what a cap is for.
  • Vents the heat: the back half of the crown is open mesh, not fabric, so warm air lifts out instead of sitting on your head.
  • Takes a patch: a hook-and-loop panel on the front for identification or a bit of personality.
  • Fits whoever picks it up: one size with a rear adjustment, so it moves between people.
  • Blends or stands out: plain black, khaki and green if you want it quiet; nine camo patterns if you do not.
Key Features
  • Half-mesh crown: woven fabric front, open air mesh across the rear panels and sides.
  • Front patch panel: hook-and-loop, roughly a standard rectangular patch footprint.
  • Curved peak: pre-shaped, with multiple rows of top stitching.
  • Adjustable rear closure: one size, tuned at the back of the head.
  • Crown vent: a metal eyelet at the top of the shell.
  • Twelve patterns: black, army green, khaki, CP, black CP, green CP, ACU, ruins, jungle digital, desert digital, jungle python and black python.
  • Unisex: one shape, one size, no men's or women's split.
  • Free delivery: Australia and New Zealand, both included.

Limits

What this cap is not, plainly stated.

  • Coverage stops at the cap: the peak and the front crown shade your face, your eyes and the top of your head. This is a baseball cap, not a legionnaire and not a broad brim, so your ears and the back of your neck are still out in it. On a full day in the open, put something over your neck as well.
  • The back half is mesh: that is the point of it and it is why the cap stays cool, but open mesh vents rather than shades.
  • Camouflage is a pattern, not a credential: nothing here is issued, approved or supplied to any defence force, and we make no such claim. Buy it because you like it or because it hides you in scrub.
  • No head measurement is published: the supplier states no circumference range. It is a one size fits all cap with a rear adjuster, which suits most adults, but we cannot give you a number.
  • No patch is included: the front panel is there for one, but you supply the patch.

Q & A

What size is it?
One size fits all, with an adjustable strap at the back. The supplier does not publish a head circumference range for this cap, so we cannot quote one. If you sit well outside an average adult hat size, that is worth knowing before you buy.

Is it any good for sun?
Yes — that is what a cap is for. The solid front panels and the curved peak keep the sun off your face, your eyes and the top of your head, and skin you have covered is skin that is not copping it. The rear half is open mesh, so it vents rather than shades. For a full day in the open, put something over the back of your neck as well.

What patch fits the front?
Standard hook-and-loop patches. The loop panel on the front is a plain rectangle, so anything sold as a morale patch with a hook backing will attach. No patch is supplied with the cap.

Which pattern should I pick?
If you want it low key, black, khaki or army green. For dry country and spinifex, desert digital or the tan CP patterns. For scrub and timber, jungle digital, green CP or jungle python. The python and ruins patterns are the loudest of the twelve.

Will it hold its shape?
The peak is pre-curved and stiffened, and the front panels are structured. The mesh rear is soft, so the cap will pack flatter than a full fabric cap without the peak losing its shape.

How long will it take to arrive?
Allow 10 to 14 days from the day you place the order, and up to three weeks to be safe. Regional and remote addresses take longer again. Delivery is free to Australia and New Zealand.
