The dog ends up on your swag because the floor is cold.
Concrete, floorboards, the tray of the ute, the tiles in the laundry — a dog or a cat will find the warmest thing in the room and lie on it, and most of the time that is your bed, your swag or your seat. Give them somewhere of their own that is warmer than the floor and they will use it.
This is a bolster bed. Three sides are raised and padded so the animal has something to put its back and head against, and the front is left low so an older dog or a small cat can walk straight in without climbing. The middle is a thick tufted cushion rather than a flat pad, and the whole thing sits on a black dotted backing that grips a smooth floor instead of sliding across it.
It comes in four sizes and two colours. The supplier gives a recommended pet weight for each size, and that is the number to buy on — not how big the bed looks in the photo. Sizing is the single biggest reason pet beds get sent back.
What It Does
- Gets them off the floor: a padded base and a tufted cushion between the animal and cold concrete or tile.
- Gives them a wall: three raised bolster sides to lean against, which is how most dogs and cats choose to sleep anyway.
- Stays where you put it: the base is backed with a black dotted fabric that grips floorboards and tiles.
- Lets them step in: the front side is low, so there is nothing to climb over.
- Matches the animal, not the room: four sizes with a recommended pet weight against each one.
Key Features
- Bolster construction: three padded raised sides, open low front.
- Ribbed plush outer: a corduroy-style ribbed pile on the outside walls and base skirt.
- Short-pile lining: smooth plush on every surface the animal actually lies on.
- Tufted centre cushion: stitched into sections so the filling stays spread out instead of bunching at one end.
- Non-slip base: black dotted backing fabric across the underside.
- Four sizes: 480 x 400 mm through to 780 x 600 mm, with a recommended pet weight for each.
- Two colours: grey or brown.
- Free delivery: Australia and New Zealand, both included.
Limits
Here is what this bed is not, so nobody finds out the hard way.
- It is a bed, nothing more: it will not treat, ease or manage joint pain, hip problems, anxiety or any other condition, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. It is padding, a raised edge and a non-slip backing. If your animal has a health problem, that is a conversation with your vet, not a shopping decision.
- Not a chew toy: a determined chewer or a digging puppy will get through plush fabric. If yours destroys bedding, this will not be the exception.
- Not waterproof: the base backing is not a moisture barrier. It is an indoor or under-cover bed, not something to leave out in the weather.
- Washing is not stated: the supplier gives no washing instructions and does not say whether the cushion or cover comes off. Treat it as hand wash and air dry until you know better.
- Buy on weight, not on looks: the sizes are close together. An 8 kg dog in the small size will hang over the edge.
- Two sizes are not stocked: the supplier's chart shows an XS and an XXL. We only carry S, M, L and XL, so do not size off the chart alone.
Q & A
Which size do I get?
Go by the supplier's recommended pet weight: S up to 4 kg, M up to 8 kg, L up to 15 kg, XL up to 20 kg. If your animal is between two, take the larger one — dogs stretch out, and a bed that is slightly big is still usable while a bed that is slightly small is not.
Will it slide around on floorboards?
The underside is backed with a black dotted fabric, which is the standard non-slip treatment. On polished floorboards or smooth tiles it will grip far better than a plain fabric base. On very slick surfaces with a dog that launches into it, expect some movement.
Does the cover come off for washing?
Not specified by supplier. The centre cushion is a separate piece that lifts out of the surround, but the supplier does not state whether the outer cover unzips or whether any part is machine washable.
Is it any good for a cat?
Yes. The raised sides suit cats particularly well, and the small size is sized for animals up to 4 kg, which covers most cats. Two of the sizes will take a cat and a small dog together.
What is inside the cushion?
Not specified by supplier. What we can tell you is that it is tufted — stitched through into sections — which is what stops loose filling migrating to one corner after a few weeks.
How long will it take to arrive?
Allow 10 to 14 days from the day you place the order, and up to three weeks to be safe. Regional and remote addresses take longer again. Delivery is free to Australia and New Zealand.
