Cargo trousers cut for crouching and kneeling.

Work trousers give out in the same three places. The crotch goes first, because you spend the day climbing in and out of a ute and squatting beside gear. Then the knees, because the fabric has nowhere to move when you drop onto gravel. Then the pockets, because a phone and a multi-tool were never what a standard back pocket was stitched for.

A split seam is not something you fix at nine in the morning. You finish the shift in them, you drive home in them, and that pair is done.

The IX9 is a cotton canvas cargo trouser with stretch in the weave, a triangular reinforcement sewn into the crotch, shaped knee panels so the fabric follows the joint, and zipped thigh pockets that hold a phone when you bend over a job. Four colours, six sizes, plain enough to wear off site.

Tactical is the style here, not a standard. Nothing on this garment is tested, rated or marked to any protective clothing standard, and no defence, police or emergency service approval sits behind the name or the model number.

What It Does
  • Survives the ute cycle: a triangular gusset is sewn into the crotch, which is the seam that lets go first on every other pair you have owned.
  • Kneels without pulling: the knees are panelled and shaped, so the fabric has somewhere to go when you go down on one knee to reach a fitting.
  • Holds a phone properly: the thigh cargo pockets zip shut, so nothing slides out when you lean into the back of a tray.
  • Sits over a boot: the hem is cut horseshoe style, longer at the back, so the leg stays down over the boot instead of riding up the shaft.
  • Passes at the shops: plain black, brown, grey or khaki with no badging down the leg — they read as work trousers, not a costume.
Key Features
  • Fabric: 97% cotton with 3% elastane, the supplier's stated composition. No fabric weight and no weave count are published.
  • Crotch gusset: a triangular reinforcement panel set into the crotch seam.
  • Shaped knees: panelled, articulated knees. No knee pad pocket, and no pads are supplied.
  • Thigh cargo pockets: one each side, zipped, with a flap over the top.
  • Hip pockets: two at the rear, deep enough for a folded pair of gloves.
  • Front hand pockets: two, cut on the slant so you can still get into them sitting down.
  • Waistband: belt loops plus one triangular metal D-ring at the front for keys, a torch lanyard or a glove clip.
  • Horseshoe hem: cut longer at the back to sit over the top of a boot.
  • Fly: zip with a button at the waistband.
  • Colours and sizes: black, brown, grey and khaki, in sizes 30, 32, 34, 36, 38 and 40.
Limits
  • Not protective clothing: there is no cut, flame, chemical or impact rating. No standard is printed on the garment and none is claimed by the supplier — not AS/NZS 4602.1, not EN 388, not anything else. Treat them as ordinary work trousers.
  • Not issued kit: Tactical is a style category and IX9 is a supplier model number. No defence, police or emergency service approval sits behind either of them.
  • No knee pads: the pads you can see in the supplier's photographs are separate strap-on items worn over the trousers. There is no knee pad pocket in this design and no pads come with them.
  • The D-ring is not a carabiner: the supplier's artwork labels it a "climbing button carabiner". It carries no load rating of any kind. Keys, a torch lanyard or a glove clip — never anything that has to hold a person.
  • The size number is not your waist: the code behind size 34 is the supplier's XL, and the supplier's XL is a 92–97 cm (920–970 mm) waist. Measure your waist and hip and buy off the chart in the Specs tab, not off the number.
  • Size 40 is off the chart: the supplier's chart stops at XXXL, which is the code sitting behind size 38. Nothing is published for size 40, so its measurements are unknown.
  • No water rating: this is cotton canvas. Nothing is stated about water resistance and no coating or treatment is claimed. Rain will soak through and cotton holds the water.
  • No wash care published: the supplier gives no care label, no shrinkage figure and no fabric weight. With a fabric this cotton-heavy, a cold wash and a line dry is the conservative way to treat them.
  • Props are not included: belts, holsters, rucksacks and knee pads all appear in the supplier's photographs. You are buying the trousers on their own.
  • Four colours, not five: the supplier's colour chart image shows a fifth shade called Mud. It is not stocked here — black, brown, grey and khaki are what you can order.
  • Men's cut only: the supplier publishes one block of sizing and no women's fit.

Q & A

Which size do I order?

Measure around your waist where the trousers will sit, and around the widest part of your hips, then match those numbers to the chart in the Specs tab. The dropdown numbers are labels rather than measurements — size 30 carries the supplier's M code, 34 carries XL, and 38 carries XXXL. If your waist measures 940 mm, the chart puts you in the XL row, which is size 34 here.

Do the knee pads and the belt come with them?

No. Everything else in the photographs — belts, knee pads, holsters, packs — is a prop. You get the trousers, and there is no knee pad pocket to put pads into either.

Can I clip gear to the D-ring on the waistband?

Keys, a torch on a lanyard, a glove clip, a small pouch — yes. Anything load bearing — no. The supplier calls it a climbing button carabiner and publishes no load rating for it, so it is a gear loop and nothing more.

Are they waterproof?

No, and the supplier does not claim it. It is a cotton canvas with a little stretch in it, so it will wet out in steady rain and stay damp for a while. Fine for dust, mud and a shower you walk out of; not a wet weather trouser.

Will they shrink in the wash?

The supplier publishes no care label and no shrinkage figure, so we cannot give you one. At 97% cotton the safe assumption is that a hot wash and a tumble dryer will take something off the length. Cold wash, line dry.

How long does delivery take?

Ten to fourteen days from the day you place the order, and it is worth allowing up to three weeks. Delivery is free to Australia and New Zealand.
