You've got the rifle in one hand and a day's gear on your back, and somewhere between the ute and the spot there's a fence to get over, a creek to cross or a bank to climb. One hand on the rifle means one hand for everything else. Sling it over a shoulder and it slides off every second step. Put it down to get through something and you're the bloke walking back for it.

This is a 14 litre hunting daypack with the rifle carry on the outside. The butt drops into a padded boot that hangs on two webbing legs below the pack, and two side-release straps cinch across the face of the bag over the forend and barrel. The rifle rides muzzle-up, centred on your back. When you're not carrying it, the boot zips away into a pocket in the base and it goes back to being an ordinary daypack.

Fourteen litres is a day out, not an overnighter — lunch, a jacket, water, a first aid kit, a few rounds. The shell is 600D nylon over a polyester lining, soft-sided, and the whole thing is 0.7 kg empty. It is a bag. Nothing more than that.

Transport and storage rules for firearms are set by each state and territory and by the conditions on your own licence. Follow yours. This pack is not a safe, a case or a substitute for either.

What It Does

• Frees both hands: over fences, across creeks, up a loose bank — the rifle stays on your back instead of tying up an arm.
• One bag instead of two: a daypack and a gun carry in the same load, so there's one thing to grab off the ute seat.
• Carries a day, not a week: 14 litres and 0.7 kg empty — enough for food, water and a jacket without becoming the thing you notice at hour five.
• Works on the property too: gates, dogs, a thermos and a feed, with the rifle out of the way while your hands are busy doing something else.
• Goes back to a plain pack: zip the boot into the base and it's a daypack for anything — walking, fishing, a day on the tools.

Limits

Read this part before you buy. It is a soft pack, and there are things it does not do.

• Not a hard case: 600D nylon and webbing will not save a scope from a real knock. Bump it into a tree or drop the pack on rock and you can shift your zero. For the drive out and back, use a hard case.
• Rifle length is not published: the supplier states no maximum. The straps and the boot adjust, but nothing tells you what they adjust to. Measure your rifle muzzle to butt with the scope fitted and judge it against the 420 mm pack body before you order.
• Slower than in your hands: a rifle on your back is two buckles and a lift away from being in your hands. If you think there's a shot coming in the next few minutes, carry it. This is for the walk in, the walk out and the long dead stretches between.
• Not waterproof: no water resistance rating is specified by the supplier and no rain cover is included. Exposed zips and a nylon shell will shrug off a shower. A solid day of rain will get in.
• Not lockable: no lock points and no lockable pulls are specified by the supplier. It does not secure anything to anything.
• No hip belt to lean on: the supplier specifies no padded waist belt and no frame. The load sits on your shoulders. At 14 litres that's fine; don't buy it planning to haul meat.
• The rifle is out in the open: it rides on the outside of the pack with the muzzle above your head. Scrub grabs it, and it is in plain view of anyone you walk past.
• One option only: the green shown. There is no colour choice and no size choice at the checkout.
• Not a legal storage solution: we can't advise you on firearms law, and this pack should not be treated as meeting any transport or storage requirement. Your licence conditions and your state's rules are the authority.

Q & A

What length rifle will it take?

The supplier does not publish a maximum length, so we won't guess one. The pack body is 420 mm tall, the butt boot hangs below it on webbing legs and both retention straps adjust. Measure your rifle muzzle to butt with the scope fitted and decide from there. If it's a long barrel with a big objective, it'll sit high and the muzzle will be well above your head.

How does it actually hold the rifle?

There is no padded sleeve and no scabbard. The butt sits in a padded boot that hangs below the pack on two webbing legs, and two side-release straps run horizontally across the face of the pack and cinch over the forend and barrel. The rifle sits on the outside of the bag, muzzle up, centred on your spine.

How big is it, really?

14 litres. 420 mm tall, 230 mm wide, 145 mm deep, 0.7 kg empty. That's a day pack — food, water, a jacket, a first aid kit, ammunition. It is not an overnight pack.

Can I run a hydration bladder in it?

There's a hose port in the top panel for a bladder tube. The supplier does not specify a dedicated bladder sleeve inside, and no bladder is included — you'd be putting your own in the main compartment and running the hose out the top.

Is it waterproof?

No. The supplier specifies no water resistance rating and no rain cover is supplied. Treat it as shower-resistant nylon and pack anything that must stay dry in a dry bag.

Does it come in camo, or in a bigger size?

No. One option only — the green shown in the photos. There is nothing to select at the checkout.
