The jacket and the trousers. Both in the box.

It is rarely the temperature that sends you back to the ute. It is the wind. A jumper that felt fine in the shed does nothing on an exposed pad at smoko, or sitting still in a hide waiting for first light, and once the cold gets into you your hands stop working properly and you start making the small mistakes that turn into incidents.

This is a two-piece softshell set: a hooded jacket and matching trousers in the same colourway, both included for the one price. You pick a colour and a size and the pair turns up together. There is no jacket-only or trousers-only option and nothing else to add to the cart.

The face fabric is a woven softshell with a brushed fleece inner. That combination is what does the work — it knocks the edge off the breeze and holds the warmth you generate. It is an over-layer for cold, windy days, not a rain shell, and the Limits section below spells out exactly where it stops.

What It Does
  • Knocks the wind back: the woven outer face cuts wind chill on exposed ground where a knitted jumper simply gives up.
  • Holds your own heat: the brushed fleece inner traps warm air against you rather than letting it wick straight off.
  • Covers you top and bottom: the same fabric on the legs, so you are not wearing a good jacket over jeans that pull the cold straight in.
  • Dumps heat when you start moving: underarm zips open up so you can vent without stopping to strip a layer off.
  • Carries the small gear: zip chest, hand and upper-arm pockets on the jacket, cargo pockets on the trousers.
  • Takes a patch: hook-and-loop panels sit on both upper arms if you run call signs or a flag.
  • Blends in or stays plain: four plain colours and six patterns, so you can disappear into scrub or turn up looking like nothing in particular.
Key Features
  • Two pieces, one price: hooded jacket and matching trousers supplied together in the colour and size you pick.
  • Seven sizes: S through to 4XL, with the supplier's own centimetre measurements published in the Specs tab.
  • Ten colourways: Grey, Sand, Black and Khaki plain; Black Snake, Green Camo, CP, Desert, Acu and Tree Camo patterned.
  • Full-length front zip: with a lined chin guard so the slider does not sit against your throat.
  • Drawcord hood: fixed to the jacket, adjustable at the face opening.
  • Underarm zip vents: one each side, long enough to actually move air.
  • Six jacket pockets: two zip hand, two zip chest and two zip upper-arm.
  • Reinforcement panels: at the elbows and knees, where this sort of gear goes through first.
  • Trouser detail: thigh cargo pockets, belt loops, zip fly and gathered ankle cuffs that sit over a boot.
  • Brushed fleece inner: visible at the jacket collar and down the front opening.
Limits
  • Not a rain shell: the supplier publishes no water rating at all — no membrane named, no hydrostatic head figure — so we are not going to call it waterproof. Steady rain will get through it. Carry a hard shell if the forecast is wet.
  • No tested wind figure either: a softshell face does cut a lot of wind, but no membrane and no test result are stated, so treat the word windproof as a description of the fabric type rather than a measured specification.
  • Sizing runs small: these are Asian size codes. The supplier's own chart puts XL at a 124 cm (1240 mm) chest, which lands closer to an Australian medium or large. Work from the centimetre charts in the Specs tab and ignore the letter.
  • The trouser chart stops short: 4XL is sold and the jacket chart covers it, but the supplier publishes no trouser measurements for 4XL at all.
  • No fabric composition: the supplier does not state what the fabric is made of, and there are no wash or care instructions either. We would rather tell you that than make a number up.
  • Not an insulated parka: it is a wind and warmth layer meant to go over your own gear. In genuine cold you still need something under it.
  • Camo is a pattern, not a credential: these are commercial patterns on commercial clothing. No part of this set is issued, approved or certified by any defence force.

Q & A

Do I get the jacket and the trousers, or just one of them?

Both. The one price covers the pair, in the colour and size you select. There is no jacket-only or trousers-only option on this listing, and the trousers come in the same colourway as the jacket.

What size should I pick?

Work from centimetres, not the letter. These run to Asian sizing and come up small on an Australian frame. The supplier's jacket chart puts XL at a 124 cm (1240 mm) chest and XXL at 130 cm (1300 mm). Measure a jacket that already fits you across the chest, double that figure, and match it to the chart in the Specs tab.

Will it keep me dry?

In a light shower on a short walk, probably. In steady rain, no. There is no published water rating on this set, so we cannot quote you a figure and we are not going to invent one. If staying dry matters, put a proper rain shell over the top.

Is 4XL measured the same way as the rest?

The jacket chart does run to 4XL — a 140 cm (1400 mm) chest and a 60 cm (600 mm) shoulder. The trouser chart stops at XXXL, so the 4XL trouser waist, hip and length are not specified by the supplier. If you are taking 4XL, the jacket figures are the only measurements we can stand behind.

How warm is it, honestly?

It is a softshell with a brushed fleece inner face, which makes it a wind and warmth layer rather than an insulated parka. It handles a cold, breezy morning over a shirt comfortably. For real cold you layer under it. No temperature rating is published for this fabric.

How long does delivery take?

Ten to fourteen days from the day you place the order, and it is worth allowing up to three weeks. Regional and remote addresses take longer again. Shipping is free to Australia and New Zealand.
