You order shorts online, a size 32 turns up, and it will not do up. The number on the tag was chosen by a factory on the other side of the world, the chart it came from is printed in a unit you do not use, and by the time you have worked out you needed the next size up you are a fortnight and one return away from wearing them.

So the supplier's full measurement chart is published below, converted to nothing and invented from nothing — just the centimetre columns, exactly as they are printed on the artwork. Waist, hip, length and leg opening, for every size on the shelf. Lay a pair of shorts that already fit you flat, measure the waistband across, double it, and match that figure. That is the whole trick.

What arrives is a plain, matte, non-stretch woven cargo short. Six pockets, a metal zip fly, a single-button waistband, belt loops that take a real belt, and cargo flaps that close instead of hanging open and dumping your phone in the dirt. Nine sizes, 28 to 38, and eight colourways across two closely related styles — the RELAX style and the 01 style. Same cut and the same pocket layout; the trim is where they differ, and it is all spelt out below.

Two Styles On One Page

The colour menu carries two families. Khaki, Grey, Dark Grey and Army Green are the RELAX style: a dark four-hole waistband button, camouflage print under the cargo flaps, RELAX embroidery on one flap, a turn-up cuff at the hem and a patterned inner waistband. Black01, Dark Blue01, Army Green01 and Khaki01 are the 01 style: a metal tack button, a metal D-ring on the waistband, plain cargo flaps with a small woven tab on the right pocket, a plain hem, gingham check inside the fly and a riveted coin pocket at the hip. The pocket count, the fly, the belt loops and the overall cut are the same on both. Pick by colour and the photos show you which trim you are getting.

What It Does

• Carries the awkward stuff: two bellows cargo pockets on the thighs take a phone, a folding knife, a tape or a pair of gloves without emptying your hip pockets.
• Keeps it in there: each cargo pocket sits under a flap, so bending, kneeling and climbing in and out of a ute does not tip the pocket out.
• Fits off a number you can check: waist, hip, length and leg opening are published in centimetres for all nine sizes, so you can measure before you commit rather than after.
• Takes a real belt: proper belt loops with contrast topstitching, sized for a webbing or leather belt.
• Stays quiet in the bush: khaki, grey, dark grey, army green, black and dark blue — nothing that announces you across a paddock.

Limits

• A blend, and the split is not stated: the cloth is a cotton and polyester blend, not pure cotton. No composition label appears on the supplier’s artwork or in any of the product photographs, so nobody here has sighted a percentage and the spec table does not put a number on it. If an exact blend matters to you, treat the split as unconfirmed.
• One size chart for two styles: the supplier publishes a single measurement chart for the whole listing and does not measure the 01 colourways separately. The RELAX and 01 shorts share a cut, and the 01 sizes carry the same size codes, but if you are between sizes on a 01 colourway, go up.
• Not workwear and not protective: nothing on this garment is tested or marked to a cut, flame, hi-vis or abrasion standard — not AS/NZS 4602.1, not EN 388, not anything. No standard is printed on it. They are casual and light-duty outdoor shorts, and that is all.
• Not waterproof, not quick-dry: no water-repellent or fast-drying finish is stated by the supplier and none is visible in the fabric. Rain will soak through and it will stay wet.
• No stretch: the weave is rigid and no elastane is stated. If you want give when you squat or climb, these are not it — size up rather than hoping the fabric moves.
• Asian sizing, and it runs small: the size numbers are the supplier’s own labels, not an Australian or New Zealand fit. Size 32 measures 82.5 cm (825 mm) around the waist laid flat. Go by the centimetre table, not by what your usual jeans say.
• The belt is not included: the webbing belt in every photograph is a styling prop and does not ship with the shorts. If you need one, the leather and tactical belts collection is where they live.
• Camouflage is trim, not a claim: on the RELAX style the camo print appears under the pocket flaps and nowhere else; the 01 style has none. It carries no service, unit or approval of any kind — it is a decoration on a pair of shorts.

Q & A

How do I work out which size to order?

Take a pair of shorts or trousers that already fit you, lay them flat, measure straight across the waistband and double it. Match that number to the Waist column in the size table. If you land between two sizes, take the larger one — the supplier allows ±3 cm (30 mm) of manual measurement deviation, and the cloth has no stretch to make up a shortfall.

What is the difference between Khaki and Khaki01?

Two versions of the same shorts from the same supplier. Khaki is the RELAX style: dark four-hole waistband button, camouflage under the cargo flaps, RELAX embroidery on one flap, turn-up hem. Khaki01 is the 01 style: metal tack button, a D-ring on the waistband, plain flaps with a small woven tab, plain hem, gingham inside the fly. The 01 khaki is a slightly lighter, more olive shade in the photographs. Same goes for Army Green against Army Green01. Black and Dark Blue only come in the 01 style; Grey and Dark Grey only in the RELAX style.

Are these actually one hundred per cent cotton?

No. The cloth is a cotton and polyester blend. No composition label appears on the supplier’s artwork or on the garment in any photograph, so the split between the two is not stated, and the spec table says so rather than putting a percentage on it that would be a guess. It handles like a cotton woven: matte, fine and with no stretch.

Do the cargo pockets actually stay shut?

On the RELAX style the thigh cargo pockets close with a button through the flap, and the rear pockets are flap-covered. A buttoned flap holds better than hook-and-loop over a long day and does not wear out, but it is a flap over a bellows pocket, not a sealed compartment — it will not keep water or dust out. On the 01 style the flaps are plain and the photographs do not show what is under them, so we are not going to tell you.

How long are they on the leg?

From the top of the waistband to the hem, size 28 is 50.5 cm (505 mm), size 32 is 53.5 cm (535 mm) and size 38 is 56 cm (560 mm). Every size is in the table below. That is a total length, not an inseam, so measure a pair you own the same way before comparing.

The supplier states these are laid-flat measurements with up to ±3 cm (30 mm) of manual measurement deviation, and describes the chart as a reference rather than a specification.
