Keep the sun and the scrub off your ear.
A high-cut helmet is cut away above the ear on purpose, so a headset sits where it should. The trade-off is that your ear is out in the open all day. Sun on it from the side, grit off the track, and every branch you push past flicking straight onto it.
By smoko you have got a red ear and a scratch you never noticed getting. Nothing serious, and that is exactly the point — it is not an injury, it is an irritation that runs all day and quietly wears you down.
These are soft rubber side covers that clip onto the ARC-style rails already on the helmet. They hang over the ear and the side of the jaw and take the sun, the wind and the scrub instead of your skin. They are a cover, not armour. There is a full account of what that means under Limits.
What It Does
- Shades the ear: hangs over the ear and the side of the jaw, so the sun is off it from mid-morning on.
- Takes the branch flick: the scrub and the track dust hit rubber instead of bare skin.
- Clips to the rail: mounts to the ARC-style side rails already fitted to a high-cut helmet.
- Comes as a pair: a left and a right cover, with the adaptor plates and screws to bolt them on.
- Matches the kit: black, tan or foliage green, so it sits in with the rest of the setup instead of announcing itself.
- Comes back off: four screws a side, so they go on for a long day in the open and come off again when you do not want them.
Key Features
- Soft rubber build: the supplier describes it as a soft rubber-like polymer. No material grade is published.
- Sold as a pair: a left and a right cover in the one pack, not a single side.
- Hardware included: four rail adaptor plates and eight screws ship with the covers.
- ARC rail fit: built for the slotted ARC-style side rails found on high-cut helmets.
- Three colourways: black, tan and foliage green.
- Supplier model codes: printed on the supplier's own artwork as TB295 black, TB296 tan and TB297 foliage green.
- Size per cover: about 155 x 129 mm, read off the supplier's dimensioned drawing.
- Rail set on the same listing: the Helmet Rail option is a separate four-piece side rail and adaptor set, not a cover.
Limits
This is not protective equipment, and we are not going to dress it up as one. It is a soft rubber flap. There is no impact, ballistic, penetration or cut rating printed on it, no certificate was sighted, and no standard is claimed here. It does not make your helmet safer and it does not change what your helmet is rated to do.
It will not stop a strike, a knock, or anything thrown at you. It is not hearing protection and it does not cut noise — it does not seal against your head, and nothing on it is tested or marked to any hearing standard. It does not reach the neck either: it covers the ear and the side of the jaw and stops there.
It only fits a helmet that already carries ARC-style side rails. A plain shell has nothing to bolt it to. The supplier publishes no list of helmet makes and models it has been fitted to, so if your rails are an unusual pattern, check the mounting plates in the photos against your own rail. No helmet is included, and neither the covers nor the rail set turn a bare shell into a rated helmet.
The maker sells this line through airsoft and tactical accessory channels. Take it for what it is — a cover that keeps sun, dust and scrub off your ear, and nothing beyond that.
Q & A
Will these fit my helmet?
They clip to ARC-style side rails — the slotted rails that run along the sides of a high-cut helmet, above the ear. If your helmet carries those, you are in the right area. The supplier publishes no list of helmet makes and models, so the photos of the mounting plates are the best check available.
Do I get one cover or a pair?
A pair. Each of the three cover options — black, tan and foliage green — ships a left and a right cover, four rail adaptor plates and eight screws.
What is the Helmet Rail option?
A different item on the same listing. It is a four-piece black set: two slotted rail sections and two mounting plates. It is not a cover, and picking it will not get you covers.
Will it protect my head?
No. It is soft rubber with no rating of any kind on it. It keeps sun, wind, grit and scrub off the ear. Anything past that is the helmet's job, not this.
Can I wear it instead of ear muffs on site?
No. This does nothing for noise. If you are working around plant or power tools, wear proper muffs or plugs rated for the job — this sits alongside them, it does not stand in for them.
How long will it take to arrive?
Ten to fourteen days from the day you order, and it is worth allowing up to three weeks. Delivery is free to Australia and New Zealand.
