Full gloves come off. Every knot, every buckle, every cable tie, every time you need to feel a thread start — off they come, and they go down in the dirt or get shoved in a pocket. Then you bark a knuckle on the underside of a tray because your hands happened to be bare at the wrong moment.

These are cut for that problem. The back of the hand carries a moulded plastic shell, each of the four fingers carries a moulded strip over the first joint, and the palm is a knitted stretch fabric with a printed non-slip texture. Your fingers and thumb come out the front just above the first knuckle, so your fingertips are working bare — which is what you were going to do anyway.

They are a knock-and-scrape glove for riding, loading, hiking, gardening and general knockabout work. They are not certified protective equipment, and nothing on them is marked to any standard. There is more on that under Limits, and it is worth reading before you buy.

Key Features

• Moulded knuckle shell: the supplier calls it a high-elastic plastic shell. It flexes with the hand rather than sitting rigid.
• Four finger strips: a separate moulded strip over each finger joint, so the shell does not stop your hand closing.
• Half-finger cut: all four fingers and the thumb are cut just above the first knuckle. The top two joints of every finger are bare.
• Knitted stretch body: a ribbed knit that takes up the difference between hand shapes, which matters because there is only one size.
• Printed non-slip palm: a hatched texture across the palm and the base of the fingers. It is a surface treatment, not padding.

Limits

This is the part that matters, so it is going first and plainly.

• Not certified protective equipment: no EN 388, no ANSI cut or impact level, no AS/NZS marking. We inspected the glove at high magnification and the tab on the back of the hand is blank — there is no moulded or printed standard on it, and the supplier states none. If you need a rated glove, go and look for one of those markings on the product you buy.
• No cut resistance: the plastic is a knock-and-scrape guard against grazes and bumps. Treat it as nothing at all against a blade, a burr or a wire end.
• No impact rating: the supplier says the shell protects the back of the hand. There is no test figure behind that and we are not going to put a number on it.
• Your fingertips are exposed: that is the entire point of the design, but it means no protection at all on your fingers from heat, cold, cuts, splinters or chemicals.
• Not waterproof and not windproof: a knitted, fingerless glove lets water and wind straight through. The old description on this page called them windproof. They are not, and a glove cannot be both breathable and windproof.
• One size only: no size chart is published for this glove and no measurements are stated anywhere by the supplier. The knit stretches, but a very large or very small hand is a genuine risk here and we would rather say so than pretend there is a chart.
• No touchscreen coating: there are no fingertips to coat. Your bare fingers run the screen, which works better than most touchscreen gloves do.
• Wrong glove for some jobs: not for chainsaw work, welding, hot work, electrical work, glass handling or anything where a rated glove is the requirement.

Q & A

What size are they, and will they fit me?

There is one size and no chart. The supplier publishes no palm circumference and no hand length, so we cannot give you a number to measure against — inventing one on a glove would be worse than useless. The body is a stretch knit, which is why a single size is offered at all. If you have unusually large or unusually small hands, that is a real risk and you should weigh it up.

Exactly which fingers are cut off, and how much?

All five. The four fingers and the thumb are all cut, and the cut sits just above the first knuckle — the joint where your finger meets your hand. Roughly the top two-thirds of each finger is bare. It is a short cut, not a mitten with the ends trimmed.

Why are there two different-looking gloves on one page?

Because there are. Colour A, Colour B and Colour C are one design, with a perforated, textured shell and a chevron shape across the back of the hand. Black, green, Khaki and ArmyGreen are a second design with a smoother, larger one-piece shell. The photograph attached to each option shows the one you will get, so pick by the picture rather than by the name.

Is the palm padded?

No. The palm is a knitted fabric with a printed non-slip pattern on it. There is no gel, no foam and no thickened pad, whatever you may read elsewhere. If you want a padded palm for vibration or long hours on the bars, this is not that glove.

Are they sold as a pair?

Yes — a left and a right. The photographs showing a single glove are just showing the back and the palm of the same design.

What are they actually made of?

The supplier states a knitted, breathable fabric body with a high-elastic plastic shell, and that is as far as it goes. No fibre percentages and no polymer type are published, so we are not going to name one. Judge them on the photographs and the price rather than on a materials list nobody has provided.

Specs
